Things that are over looked that can add some extra power are higher grade spark plugs and high performance spark plug wires, clean coil inside the distributor, and a lighter fan (I recommend aluminum over the plastic ones). I owned an 86 Chevy with a 305 for a long time and did a lot of things to it and somethings helped and some didn't. These are some that I recommend tho.
