Check the wires first

Carburetor manufacturer's (especially Holley) are very good at helping their customers select the correct carb for a particular application. Depending on how the 305 is to be used, a 600 cfm is probably about right unless you intend to routinely rev it over 7000 rpm.

after removing any accessories (p s pump,alternator) that may be attached to the pump,remove hoses and four bolts that hold pump to engine. pump will come off. may needto tap lightly with hammer to break seal with gaskets.

clean gasket residue from engine,paint pump, install gaskets and reverse procedure to install pump.

Step 1: Disconnect the battery!

Step 2: Remove all wiring that's attached to the starter solenoid.

There are 2 long bolts on the back of the starter ( the gear end ) I think they are 9/16. When removing the second bolt hang on to the starter body as it will fall.

There is a cap that turns about 1/4 turn to be removed on top of the P/S reservoir, which is attached to the P/S pump. Take it off and add fluid until it reaches the mark on the stick, which is part of the lid.

305s had 1.72" intakes with 1.50" exhaust valves. Depending on the 350, it could be the same, or have either 1.94" intake and 1.50" exhaust, or 2.02" intake with 1.60" exhaust.

About 3 degrees of crankshaft movement, or less than 1/4" if measured on the chain with one side held tight.

A transaxle is a transmission and differential (drive axle) assembly all in one. Old rear engine, rear wheel drive VW's and most Porsches (911, 912, 914) have RWD transaxles, and most modern cars with transverse mounted (sideways) engines have FWD transaxles.

Easiest way to add quick and serious power is a cam swap. You can do a cam swap for as cheap as $200 but can get pretty expensive on higher end cams. Nice carburetor can always help, but too much carb and you'll be hurting performance. Better exhaust helps every and any engine too. Things that are over looked that can add some extra power are higher grade spark plugs and high performance spark plug wires, clean coil inside the distributor, and a lighter fan (I recommend aluminum over the plastic ones). I owned an 86 Chevy with a 305 for a long time and did a lot of things to it and somethings helped and some didn't. These are some that I recommend tho.

1977 305 doesn't have points unless the distributor has been replaced with an older design. Point gap on any V8 Chevrolet is 30 degrees dwell.

This question really depends on what year and what motor and transmission are in the car. 150MPH is pushing for any stock motor in an iroc. But the Small block Chevy engine is the easiest motor to find performance enhancing goodies for. So If it isn't fast enough for you it's as easy as going to the local parts store and looking at what parts you can afford and are available to you.
