Why do chihuahuas act scared?

It depends on a lot. The genetics of the dog, the dog's environment, etc. If a chihuahua came from two parents prone to anxiety/ stress, it is likely the reaction is written in the genetic code. If this is the explanation, it is quite possible that selective breeding played a role in the skittishness of the breed. If the dog is often around large and scary objects, objects that produce loud noise, or abusive owners, the chihuahua's fear is likely a result of constant exposure to such conditions. Permanently afraid, if you will. There are many combinations of factors that lead to the disposition of a dog, and if your small breed seems incessantly frightened without provocation, it is likely a product of breeding.

What is a good dog to have with a chihuahua?

a chihuahua is a bossy dog,he will try to dominate the other dog whatever the size of it,so if you get a big dog, lets say a labrador,he will try to dominate it,and of course the labrador is going to defend or even attack too,it can kill it,if you get a small dog, then the chihuahua will try to dominate the small dog too,and the small dog will have psycological roblems,so its better to just have a chihuahua and nothing else.

also be carefull with your chihuahua when you take him for a walk,if he tries to be bossy to an other big dog on the park too,you should pick him up,because if you dont the other dog will attack it too,and he could kill him

Can a long hair chihuahua breed with a male pomeranian?

yes

This is a hybrid breed named a Pomchi or Chiranian. These dogs are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. As part of the AKC partners program they can compete in agility competitions.

There are many sites dedicated to this hybrid. As a Pomchi/Chiranian owner I have listed one that seems most accurate and comprehensive.

http://www.greatdogsite.com/hybrids/details/Pomchi

I have included my description of the breed below.

The Chiranian is a loyal, sweet and intelligent dog. Although they may have individual temperaments, they are naturally good-natured, protective dogs that enjoy being close to their family. Being courageous, they are acceptable watch dogs. They will let you know when someone is near the house. Chiranians can be social and get along well with other dogs and cats and children, if treated fairly. A gentle hand is necessary with this breed. Chiranians respond well to positive reinforcement. They do/will not respond to harsh words or yelling. In fact, being a sensitive breed, they tend to get confused when harshly corrected which may be interpreted as disobedience.

There are many variations in the coat type of both parent breeds so Chiranian can be closer in appearance to the Pomeranian or the shorter coated Chihuahua. In crossing a Pomeranian with a longer coated Chihuahua the coat will be more Pomeranian in appearance. When crossing a short coated Chihuahua with a Pomeranian a short coat can result.

Recent genetic research i.e. http://www.vetgen.com/canine-coat-color.html has located the gene for coat length. They now have tests that detect the recessive allele that results in long coats. They now know that dogs with short coats can carry a hidden "long coat" allele they can now detect. When this marker is present in both parents a dog with a short coat can produce offspring with long coats. This hidden allele may contribute to a higher number of long coated Chiranian.

Virtually all colors are acceptable including merles, solids and parti-colors. The long coat is typically very fluffy and stands out from the body while the shorter coated members of the group have a sleek coat. Both varieties are moderate seasonal shedders with slightly heavier shedding in the spring and summer months. The male tends to be a seasonal shedder but the female may also shed after giving birth and while in heat . As there are single and double coated Chiranians, owners that desire less shedding should select a single coated dog which sheds very little in comparison to the longer haired type.

With a strong desire to please, this breed is very easy to train. This includes potty training and tricks. The Chiranian enjoys playing with people and their toys. They especially enjoy tug of war and retrieving.

All dogs are domesticated and like any other breed the Chiranian should not be kept outside in extreme weather conditions. Similar to children, because of their size, the Chiranian is especially susceptible to health risks related to exposure.

As long as you are willing to provide fun and exercise this dog is suited for apartment living. But they also love to be outdoors. They enjoy a yard to play in and love to hunt in the yard and on walks.

The Chiranian is a small breed and require steps/ramps to get up into the bed or on furniture. They also tend to have long backs which make them susceptible to serious, even fatal injuries.

Because of their good temperament, loyalty, intelligence and playfulness, this hybrid is becoming very popular. Although there are many breeders there are also many Chiranian rescues waiting for adoption.

How much does a baby chihuahua cost?

it depends where you get them, how old they are, if they are purebred, what they look like, and even the gender of the pup. they can cost anywhere from 200$ to thousands. before you buy a pup, check out the environment it is in. read some articles on picking a good breeder and leaving out the bad ones. make sure your home environment is safe for the puppy. if you have other animals, make sure they can get along with the new family member and make sure to keep and eye on them at all times if it is older than the puppy or if it is a different kind of animal. Girl dogs or even cats tend to act as if they are the mother of the pup. keep in mind all of the care you will need to give your dog. girls usually cost more, considering they can have pups. don't forget that female dogs go into heat. this is the period where they can get pregnant. even the first time they go through this period (usually about 6 months of age) they can get pregnant. in this time, they will normally accept about any male dog. male dogs can smell from yards away that your dog is in heat. you can buy "doggie diapers" at most pet stores. these are cloth diapers that you put human pads in and put on your dog. you can wash the diaper and don't forget to change the pad. this cycle is like when a human is on her period. they don't bleed as much and sometimes only bleed for the first week or so. the cycle can last for about 3 weeks and usually only happens twice a year. check with your veterinarian on when or if you can get your pup spayed or neutered. when they are in heat, male dogs even blocks away will smell her and want to mate. keep an eye on her if you take her on walks during this time for she is a walking male dog magnet. check other articles on having a chihuahua pup. have fun with your new member of the family and most of all, give him/her lots of love!

Do some Deer Chihuahuas have long skinny legs?

What age do chihuahuas ears stand up?

CHIHUAHUAS

i own two chihuahuas, and when i got the first one, she came with her ears up, but she was a couple of months old, the second one's ears came up after a couple of weeks of having him, so i am assuming that between the first couple of weeks or months, the dogs ears should come up.

Your chi's ears will stand up when the cartlidge in it's ears has strengthened. You may notice that at times it's ears will be up then they'll flop down a little while later...that is normal. Your chi's ears should be fully up when it's reached a couple of months old.

Are butterflies in your home in winter good luck?

Yes, a butterfly in your home is considered good luck, regardless of the time of year. It is also thought that if the first butterfly you see in the year is white, good luck will follow you all that year, but if that butterfly is brown, then misfortune will be your companion. It is thought that seeing three butterflies together is a bad omen, and that to see a butterfly at night means death is fast approaching. Others believe butterflies represent to souls of unbaptised children and in Scotland, red butterflies are thought to be the manifestations of witches. Then again it is also said that "he that follows freits, freits will follow him".

Is chihuahua a good dog for a kid with allergies?

Chihuahua poodles.. hmm that's a different one! I bet they are cute. I think that if your child has allergies, to dogs, you might rethink getting one at all.

Normally allergies are to the dander produced, not so much the animal.

So this breed might be better than some others. Poodles normally don't shed much, but chihuahua's do tend to leave hair behind. If you already have the dog, you might try a weekly washing routine to help in reducing dander and shedding.

What is the purpose of a chihuahua?

Any pet is good for multiple reasons. Having a dog to engage with has proven to be good for overall health. Pets help lower blood pressure. Chihuahuas are particularly practical due to their small size. Many believe that Chihuahuas are helpful to diminish asthma attacks in children. Yet, this is only due to the calming effect of holding a dog. Because they are eternally small, Chihuahuas have a "puppy" effect on their surroundings. Again, a soothing effect.

Yet, it must never be forgotten that they are adult dogs and should be raised with structure and rules. If a behavior is intolerated in a large dog, then it is intolerated in a Chihuahua as well. A confident structured home makes for a calm, well-mannered dog. Chihuahuas do not tremble because they are cold, they tremble due to excitability. Thus, a firm master soothes a dog.

Would a corgi and a chihuahua mix have hair?

All dogs have hair, but if you mean LONG hair, only if the chihuahua was the long haired breed.

Do chihuahua poodles grow big?

It depends on the size of the parents. I would guess that it was a cross of a Toy Poodle and a Chihuahua, both of which are relatively small, making a Chihuahua-Poodle relatively small (less than 10 lbs). Please take care of your pets and I hope you adopted your dog because there is no such thing as a designer dog or a teacup dog.

Can a female chihuhua have pitbull puppies?

How much should a chihuahua dog weight?

That depends on your chi. Is it a showing chi? If it's being shown in dog shows it can weigh no more than 6 lbs. If it's not being shown, and is just a member of the family your vet can tell you what the right weight is for your chi. Some chi's weigh less, some more. Mine is a 4 year old deerhead and she has a steady weight of 10 lbs.

Dogs suitable for indoor living?

A Labrador would be the most popular choice as they are gentle dogs that enjoy outside where they can run and play and inside where they can relax and rest.

Another great suggestion would be a pug. A very cute dog that will adapt to any environmental surrounding and be happy and comfortable both inside and out
