Where can I buy a dog?

Rescue centers are great places to get dogs but only get a dog if you are prepared to care for properly and give it lots of attention. Your local humane society and rescue associations are good sources too. While I'm sure many might disagree with me, you could also consider buying one from an individual who has advertised in your local newspaper. Many humane societies across the USA.

Another Answer

You should avoid pet shops unless you thoroughly check out where they got the animals. Sometimes the dogs come from what are, called puppy mills. If you want more information about them, you can do a "puppy mills" search, but please be aware that they are not good places and a search is going to reveal some very disgusting pictures and information. If you buy from a pet shop that has dogs from a mill, you are helping to keep the mills in business, and that is exactly what it is to them: business, nothing more. However, there are organizations that rescue dogs from those mills and they would be excellent sources from which to buy a dog!

Another answer

I've worked with pets all of my life, so I agree with the people who have answered already. Fun fact: More than 3/4 of pet shops in malls buy from puppy mills. If you're looking for a dog, adopt. You can't get information on a puppy mill dog, but rescues can tell what their dogs like, what they dislike and like, where they like to sleep and much more. They can tell you how the dog is with other pets and kids, but puppy mill dogs are unpredictable because they were neglected and hurt. I don't know many other rescues, but my family fosters for last day dog rescue.

Another answer

Try using Pets4Homes, its a site which has loads of animals on it that people can no longer look after. I have a dog off that website and he is really happy. Also try rescue center like RSPCA, Dogs Trust and The Blue Cross.

There are not very many dogs trust or blue cross around but RSPCA there is one in bucks and i think many counties across the country.

Another answer

Also if you type in "dogs" in the browser and the state you live you can find loads of dog breeders. Be careful what you get though, Some dogs can be very pricey, A king Charles caviler spaniel can cost up to 750 pounds so be careful of what you get and make sure you compare prices with the same breeds to get good deals.

For specific breeds, you can look online for the American Kennel Club or local breeders. For the more usual pets, the SPCA or animal shelter can provide good choices that are in need of homes. But if you are looking for websites where you can find dogs for sale than you can try to search for "Dogs for sale" as a search term. There are also several sites in the related links that sell dogs.

You can buy a dog at a humane society or a pet store.

I would not suggest purchasing a dog at a pet store because many of these dogs come from Puppymills. You don't really know what type of facility they come from or how they are treated.

If you are not going to save a dog from a shelter, but want a puppy to raise, I would suggest checking classified ads and do online searches for breeders in your area.

I would also suggest you do proper research when choosing not only a dog but the breeder it came from.

Where is Pomerania?

Pomerania is an historic region on the south Baltic coast. It is currently divided between Germany and Poland. Most of Pomerania is now in Poland, the rest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Stalin moved the German-Polish border several hundred kilometers west in 1945. Between 1945-1950 Pomerania's native German population was removed and replaced by Polish and Ukranian settlers from further east, in was is considered to be the largest mass expulsion of an ethnic population in history.

How tall does a Pomeranian have to be to enter competition?

The breed standard does not specify a height, it gives weight and proportions:

"The average weight of the Pomeranian is from 3 to 7 pounds, with the ideal weight for the show specimen being 4 to 6 pounds. Any dog over or under the limits is objectionable. However, overall quality is to be favored over size. The distance from the point of shoulder to the point of buttocks is slightly shorter than from the highest point of the withers to the ground. the distance from the brisket to the ground is half the height at the withers. He is medium-boned, and the length of his legs is in proportion to a well-balanced frame. When examined, he feels sturdy."

The most common height measurements at the shoulder are 7 to 9 inches (18 to 23 cm) for the smaller weight dogs and 9 to 11 inches (23 to 28 cm) for the larger Pomeranians.

Difference between German and American rottweiler?

While there is only one rottweiler breed, there are different "types" out there. Essentially they are different bloodlines, and tend to be based on region. The "German" type, and essentially European type, tend to be a little stockier in look, with richer color and a blocky head with a more bulldogish snout. To be used for breeding, these dogs not only have to conform in type, but also be certified for working ability. They may be harder indisposition and/or more energetic, which is required for working dogs. With the "American" type, these dogs tend to be larger and/or taller (leggier). Generally they'll have slightly less blocky heads with a longer nose. These dogs tend to be more companion oriented and not work oriented, meaning they may have wonderful, soft dispositions or may be weak of nerve. They generally do no have the working ability of the German type, but are bred to be more flexible, with many becoming service dogs, for example. As German breeders are more organized, they tend to have less health issues than American dogs, of which any back yard breeder can breed. So though only German Rottweilers are those born in Germany, the German type Rottweiler has become very popular in America, being advertised as the better type of dog. Keep in mind there are excellent and poor examples on either side, and you don't necessarily want a 'better' dog, but a dog that suits you and your life style the most. Look for a well known, responsible breeder and do your research.

Is it normal for a black lab puppy to have some white on it?

The white hairs you find are common in all black labs, if you look closely you will find many white hairs. This is more common as the dog ages.

In yellow labs you will find black hairs, if they can have both a yellow mother, and a black father, or a black mother, and a yellow father.

Any color lab will produce black and yellow puppies. So it is only normal they have a few hairs of the other color. another reason is based on their ancestry.

so ... to basically sum it up for you yes it is common

What is the best food for a pomeranian?

I have a three-year-old Pomeranian from a shelter. I give her Iams Adult Small and Toy Formula. The pieces of kibble are small, and she loves the flavour of it. The first ingredient is chicken, not chicken by-product. Also, it has feeding guidelines specifically for smaller dogs. I have fed her other dog foods before, and she seems rather finicky. However, she loves the taste of the Iams, and it has kept her weight stable, so I would reccommend it, unless your Pom is currently overweight.

Answer

I have a pom puppy and he absolutely loves the new Cesars Dry Food. It has the smallest chunks for small mouths, plus the first 3 ingredients are real chicken. Plus, Cesars only makes food for small dogs, so they can really focus on what small dogs need. Cesars is made by vets too. I would recommend this brand to anyone.

* I would do something a little higher quality than Iams or Cesars. There's a food called Artemis and they make small breed-specific foods. Or try EVO small bites. The EVO is grain-free and they won't have to eat much to be a healthy weight. The best part is that the poops are tiny!
