A gladiator was an expensive investment and the lanista tried to make sure that his investment was well fed, had the best medical care for his wounds, and the best trainers available. Also, the more successful a gladiatorial school was, the higher prices the owner could demand for a show.

What are the five layers of the rain forest with picture?
The rainforest is divided into five layers: the emergents/overstory, the canopy, the understory, the shrub layer and the forest floor.
The emergents, as I learned to call them, or the overstory is the very highest part of the rainforest. It reaches about 150ft or 45m above the ground. They are tall trees which stick out of the top of the rainforest.
The canopy is where most of the trees are. It is 100-125ft or 30-37.5m above the ground. It is a thick, dense mass of trees.
The understory is simply slightly smaller or younger trees then the canopy which reach between about 50-75ft or 15-22.5m above the ground.
The shrub layer is the small trees and bushes near the ground, about 25ft or 7m above the ground. This is where many bugs and spiders live.
And finally, the forest floor.
See the link below for a diagram and more information about the rainforest and the rainforest layers. It has however missed out the shrub layer.

What type of home do chimpanzees live in?
In the wild, mainly trees and foliage, bushes etc. Seeing as apes move a lot to find food etc. I assume they have many different homes throughout their lives, but I'm certain they will always sleep/live in vegitation.
In capitivity, good zoos try to keep their animals in the most similar habitat to the wild that they can get, yet as they place climbing frames and ropes etc. for entertainment towards the animals, I guess they will use that and obviously will use the whole of their enclosure to live in.
