Can you use chinchilla dust for gerbils?

Yes you can. As long as its not clumpy and there is no wee or poo in the sand it is ok.

Best way to do this is after your Chin/s have had their bath is to pour the sand back into its bag or another container using a sieve (sifter)

This will stop the poo and hay going back in the sand.

What are the colors of a chinchilla?

Chihuahua's come in an assortment of colours: fawn, white, black, chocolate, and even lilac. Their coats can be one-tone in overall colour, two-two, brindle, or merle.

Lilac is very rare and in this case the chihuahua is so silver it looks almost purple in certain light. A rule of thumb is that the more rare the colour and coat pattern of the chihuahua; the greater chance it was unethically bread to produce these rare colours and patterns.

My chihuahua is fawn and was adopted at 1 year old.

How much space do chinchillas need?

A single chinchilla should live in a cage about two times the size as guinea pig cages on the market. And if you are keeping two chinchillas, they should live in a cage about 3x the size. This is all because chinchillas do need to jump and run about and if you but them a properly built running wheel these can be rather large!

Can two female chinchillas be in a cage together?

Yeah, but like with every other animal, you have to introduce them slowly and let them get used to each other. It's best to have them in a neutral play area for a while, so they can smell and get use to each other, and neither has territory there. Then it's best to put them in a neutral cage together, again, territorial issues.

Do chinchillas cuddle?

They love to sleep in little hammocks if you own one.

In the wild, however, they sleep in huddles in a burrow or a rock crevice.

Can chinchillas eat honey?

No because they can choke on them and they can not eat sugar.

Can a chinchilla eat a cat?

Yes - don't let them be alone.

Or, you could keep the chinchilla in a box all the time.

How do you potty train a chinchilla?

InstructionsThings You'll Need
  • Litter box
  • Critter Litter or other litter safe for chinchillas
  • Chinchilla bedding
  • Chinchilla
  • Spoon or small scoop
    • 1

Put the litter box in a corner of the chinchilla's cage, away from water and food bowls. If your chinchilla tends to urinate in a particular spot in its cage, put the litter box over that spot. Put the Critter Litter in the box.

    • 2

Scoop up any bedding in the chinchilla's cage that it has urinated on and put this wet bedding in the litter box. Put wet bedding in the litter box every time the chinchilla urinates.

    • 3

Clean out the litter box every week when you change the chinchilla's bedding. Save a small amount of wet bedding from the litter box and put it back in the litter box with the Critter Litter.

    • 4

Repeat this process for several months until the chinchilla is regularly urinating in the litter. It may take several months for the chinchilla to learn this, and not all are able to learn to do it.

What daily foods can your guinea pig eat?

fruits like apple cut up or vegitables such as carrots, fresh green beans are good to feed your guinea pig when you are out of food. you don't want to substitute this with the food you buy at a pet store though. the foods you buy have a well balance diet for your pet and is the healthiest way to go. you could also try some oat meal but not the flavored instant type.

Can guinea pigs purr?

I've kept and bred gerbils for nearly 40 years. They do not purr. The previous answer stated they have vibrations. Gerbils are prone to seizures and tremors although this genetic anomaly has mostly been bred out. It's helpful to think of yourself as a giant amusement park ride to a gerbil. When you go on one it upsets your sense of balance and you get really nervous and nauseous. Gerbils are small and sometimes being carried or handled has the same startling effect.

Is it hard to take care of a chinchilla?

Yes. They will poop a lot and you will have to clean the whole cage with water and a washcloth. Heres a little list from what i can remember when I had a hamster:

1) food

2)water

3)happy

4) excersise

5)clean

Also make sure that any larger animal comes near the cage or it could kill it.
