How much space do chinchillas need?

A single chinchilla should live in a cage about two times the size as guinea pig cages on the market. And if you are keeping two chinchillas, they should live in a cage about 3x the size. This is all because chinchillas do need to jump and run about and if you but them a properly built running wheel these can be rather large!

Can two female chinchillas be in a cage together?

Yeah, but like with every other animal, you have to introduce them slowly and let them get used to each other. It's best to have them in a neutral play area for a while, so they can smell and get use to each other, and neither has territory there. Then it's best to put them in a neutral cage together, again, territorial issues.

Do chinchillas cuddle?

They love to sleep in little hammocks if you own one.

In the wild, however, they sleep in huddles in a burrow or a rock crevice.

Can chinchillas eat honey?

No because they can choke on them and they can not eat sugar.

Can a chinchilla eat a cat?

Yes - don't let them be alone.

Or, you could keep the chinchilla in a box all the time.

How do you potty train a chinchilla?

InstructionsThings You'll Need
  • Litter box
  • Critter Litter or other litter safe for chinchillas
  • Chinchilla bedding
  • Chinchilla
  • Spoon or small scoop
    • 1

Put the litter box in a corner of the chinchilla's cage, away from water and food bowls. If your chinchilla tends to urinate in a particular spot in its cage, put the litter box over that spot. Put the Critter Litter in the box.

    • 2

Scoop up any bedding in the chinchilla's cage that it has urinated on and put this wet bedding in the litter box. Put wet bedding in the litter box every time the chinchilla urinates.

    • 3

Clean out the litter box every week when you change the chinchilla's bedding. Save a small amount of wet bedding from the litter box and put it back in the litter box with the Critter Litter.

    • 4

Repeat this process for several months until the chinchilla is regularly urinating in the litter. It may take several months for the chinchilla to learn this, and not all are able to learn to do it.

What daily foods can your guinea pig eat?

fruits like apple cut up or vegitables such as carrots, fresh green beans are good to feed your guinea pig when you are out of food. you don't want to substitute this with the food you buy at a pet store though. the foods you buy have a well balance diet for your pet and is the healthiest way to go. you could also try some oat meal but not the flavored instant type.

Can guinea pigs purr?

I've kept and bred gerbils for nearly 40 years. They do not purr. The previous answer stated they have vibrations. Gerbils are prone to seizures and tremors although this genetic anomaly has mostly been bred out. It's helpful to think of yourself as a giant amusement park ride to a gerbil. When you go on one it upsets your sense of balance and you get really nervous and nauseous. Gerbils are small and sometimes being carried or handled has the same startling effect.

Is it hard to take care of a chinchilla?

Yes. They will poop a lot and you will have to clean the whole cage with water and a washcloth. Heres a little list from what i can remember when I had a hamster:

1) food

2)water

3)happy

4) excersise

5)clean

Also make sure that any larger animal comes near the cage or it could kill it.

Can you take your pet chinchilla on a walk outside?

Not for long periods no. Your chinchilla should only be kept in heated out buildings, if not then only if it's summer and you want your chins briefly outside, if so give your chins lots of cooling granite tiles in the cage and ice packs near the cage.

Is it legal to sell Chinchillas in the United States?

They are legal in all states. Chinchillas are considered an agricultural product because they were originally primarily used for fur farming, so they don't fall under the "exotics" heading where you have to have permits or special set ups to have them. A while back there were one or two larger cities trying to ban them, I have absolutely no idea why, but it didn't go through. I'm sure more will try though, they always do.

How can i tell if it my coat is sable or mink?

A mink coat will normally cost $3000 to $15,000. There are American and European minks.

A sable coat will cost much more, typically $30,000 on up to around $300,000 +.

The sable is the most valued and rare of all furs. It is native to Russia and the most valuable fur is that of the winter coat when the fur is darker and longer.

Sable fur is unique among furbearers because it retains its smoothness no matter in which direction it is stroked. The fur of other furbearers on the other hand will give an impression of roughness when stroked in the opposite direction of the grain.

Only extremely wealthy people or some world stars like Madonna have sable on their shoulders. Only top designers like Chanel or Ferre dare to use it in their collections. Generally, sable is combined with high quality fabrics and used for small pieces giving an aristocratic look, such as stoles or for trimming.

What can be done to save or protect the chinchillas?

This is how you can help to save the harmless Chinchillas.

  1. Do NOT make any more Chinchilla coats. It takes about 20 Chinchillas skins to make one coat.
  2. Do NOT use their fur for something you do not even need, like coats.
  3. Lastly, you can BUY THE CHINCHILLAS BEFORE THE COAT MAKERS CAN GET THEM! PLEASE HURRY!
  4. PLUS,
  5. You shouldn't kill these animals. They did nothing to hurt you, so don't hurt them. They are so harmless. This is why they are endangered. If you want them to not be EXTINCT, then you might want to protest against the killing these poor harmless animals.

Why are chinchillas teeth yellow?

Because beavers need their teeth to chew in logs to make a river dam or to just eat. I suppose they could eat with small teeth, but it would take them hours and hours to eat just a stump of a branch. Sorry Prettydoll27

What does a Chinchilla eat?

Chinchillas need to have good quality pellets (do your research not just any pellet at the pet store labeled for chinchillas is good for them), fresh timothy hay and filtered water. If the water isn't filtered they can get giardia. Just because something says it is safe for chinchillas, doesn't mean it is.

Can chinchillas be declawed?

Answer:

Yes they can be by a vet.

Answer:

I have never heard of a dog being declawed unless for medical reasons - through injury or infection. It is barely necessary to even clip a dogs claw if it is exercised regularly and allowed to walk on hard surfaces. Dogs need their claws to provide traction on surfaces when walking or running. A dog without claws will not be able to walk or balance properly which could have long-term effects on their joints and muscles. Many vets will not declaw a dog for this reason

Answer:

Yes, They can. I own 4 dogs that have had this procedure done and they are happy and healthy. They, obviously, walked a little funny while the wounds were still healing but there is no evidence to suggest that they have any issues. And the best part is no holes in the yard.
