In recent years, several bands with Christian roots have made mainstream play lists -- Lifehouse, Switchfoot and P.O.D. among them -- without blatant evangelical themes. Yet the musicians' personal faith remains at the core.

"We can be in the secular music market but still hold true to what we believe," Black said. "At the end of the day it's who you are, not where you play."

Is Devil driver a christian band?

The band DevilDriver are a somewhat hardcore Christian band. They may come across as just another nu-metal band but if you listen to their lyrics and do some backround research of the band members, it is very apparent that their min focus is to dispell the allure of atheism or satanism. Jesus himself would be a big DevilDriver fan. Go with DevilDriver and drive the devil from your Heart.

How Has Christian Music Changed?

Christian Rock music did not exist in 1967. Mind Garage, a psychedelic hard rock group is considered the first "Christian Rock band". They were the first rock band to bring drums, amps, guitars into church for a live orthodox rock and roll worship service at the suggestion of Reverend Michael Paine, West Virginia University chaplin. The beginnings of Christian Rock are completely documented from 1967 to 1970 in the local and national magazines and newspapers such as The Village Voice, Billboard and Rolling Stone magazine and also on prime time national news shows ( Huntley-Brinkley News, NBC TV ) and specials on ABC TV. In July of 1968, the term "theo-rock" was coined in the Village Voice Newspaper in reference to The Mind Garage worship service.

In a California church named Calvary Chapel, the pastor allowed converted hippies to write the first Christian rock songs for his church worship team. Later the church started its own record label.

In 1970 a guy named Larry Norman became the next Christian rocker to be listened to nationally. He toured with mainstream rock bands, and most Christians didn't except him. He was quoted as saying, "Why should the devil have all the good music?" Today he is known as the "father of Christian rock".

Then the 1970s The Resurrection Band, also known as Rez, came along. They helped to make Christian rock much more like the mainstream.

Stryper came on scene in the 1980s as the first Christian metal band. They were a hair metal band that became extremely popular with most Christian teens, even though they were considered very contraversial. (In about 2005, Stryper got back together again.)

In 1989 DC Talk was formed, and they are the ones who made Christian rock more acceptable, along with the Newsboys. In 1995 DC Talk wrote the biggest break-through song ever heard in Christian music, the song "Jesus Freak". DC Talk broke up around 2000, but all three of the vocalists are around as solo artists; they are Toby Mac, Tait, and Kevin Max.

In the early 1990s, the new record label Tooth & Nail signed a band called MxPx. MxPx was the first Christian punk rock band, and they are also the band that kept Tooth & Nail Records from closing in its early years. MxPx had amazing success in the mainstream and was named one of the country's top ten punk bands. However, the first huge mainstream success came in 2004 with Switchfoot.

Is Amy grant Jewish?

YES -- 'AMY GRANT' IS of part JEWISH lineage.

Her great-grandfather ('Mr. Andrew Mizell Burton') was

a Jewish man who had owned a very successful insurance

corporation (Life and Casualty Insurance) in Tennessee

-- through which he made a great deal of money.

It is said that the money made by the success of the insurance

corporation of' Mr. Andrew Mizell Burton' (the great, grandfather

of former psuedo-religious singer, 'Amy Grant') was used by him

to rise up the social ranks by making monetary donations certain

religious groups (although he was not known to have believed in

the doctrines espoused by these groups) and that the money

was also used by Amy Grant's well-off, well-connected family

to target religious audiences in order to launch her music career.

This may be one reason that the songs that are

written and recorded by 'Amy Grant' (America's

little "darling of pseudo-Christian music" often

havea strong Old Testament / Torah theme.

What are the lyrics to Hallelujah by BarlowGirl?

I saw a blind man tapping along
He could not see like you and me
I said, Oh mister, I feel sorry for you
He said, When I get to heaven, I'll see just like you

Chorus
I'll see all my friends in Hallelujah Square
What a wonderful time we'll have up there
We'll sing and praise Jesus, His glory we'll share
There won't be no blind man in Hallelujah Square

I saw an ole cripple dragging his leg
He could not walk like you and me
I said, Oh mister, I feel sorry, so sorry for you
He said, When I get to glory, I'll walk just like you

CHORUS
I'll walk with my friends in Hallelujah Square
What a wonderful time we'll have up there
We'll sing and praise Jesus, His glory we'll share
There won't be no cripple in Hallelujah Square

I saw a beggar, begging for bread
He did not have food to eat, like you and me
I said, Oh, oh mister, I feel sorry, so sorry for you
He said , You see, when I get in glory, I'm gonna sit at the table just like you

CHORUS
I'll see all my friends in Hallelujah Square
What a wonderful time we'll have up there
We'll sing and praise Jesus, His glory we'll share
There won't be no beggar in Hallelujah Square

ROLL
There won't be no blind man in Hallelujah Square
There won't be no cripple in Hallelujah Square
There won't be no beggar in Hallelujah Square

Is Breaking Benjamin a Christian band?

No, despite the faith of several band members, the band itself is not in the Christian music genre. A Christian band would talk about their faith in either their lyrics or in interviews or something. Evidence of what type of band they are would be found in their lyrics, interviews and podcasts from the band.

Although not all Christian bands sing about their faith, for example Skillet sings about things that happen in their lives too. And as far as talking about faith? That's not always true either... Look at Switchfoot they are a Christian band, but most of their songs don't talk about faith or God, they might be "meant" to be leaning towards that idea, but they never say it right out.

They encourage people to look for their own meaning to their songs. Also, Christian bands do-NOT curse in any of their songs (and damn and hell are not curse words). Look up their song Fireflies for example, it curses.

The members may be Christian but that does not mean that their music is. The members of Breaking Bemjamin are all (probably) Christians but they are not a Christian band. Members of a band that are Christians does not mean that they are in a Christian band.

Being a Christian and being in a Christian band are different.

No. I'm sorry if that's what you were looking for. Their music doesn't have much profanity if that's what you're worried about too, but as for it being Christian music, it really doesn't have much to do with god or the Christian faith at all.

Are Mumford and Sons Christian?

Mumford and Sons responded to their album being described as shot through with Christian iconography thus:
