Cigarettes cause lung, throat and mouth cancer because some of the by-products of the combustion of tobacco (and some of the additives in most cigarettes) are radioactive and bombard these organs with radiation, which causes cancer.

I know that smokers have a higher waist to hip ratio. Smokers tend to have skinny legs, and fat deposits occure on the torso. This explains why smokers also have chances of heart disease, lung cancer...etc..... Toxins go where fat goes, and if fat is in the abdomen, the toxins will be also. With these toxins being so focused on our torso, it is no wonder why our health risks are all associated with our major organs....on the torso!!! Also...smoking affects the endoctrine system, which affects the thyroid function and everything, so this can also encourage weight retention in the abdomen.

On a personal note, I quit smoking, and I had to buy belts to hold my pants up. I even went out and bought new pants to fit my waist, and then....4 months later.....I started smoking again(about 2 months ago)!!! I tried on my new pants about 2 weeks ago, and I couldn't button them up!!! That is how much it affected me also. SO........quit....... reduce calorie intake by 200/day (cause that is what a smoker burns in calories just by smoking)....watch what you eat, and your waist WILL slim down!!!!

I'm not quite a change smoker. I usually don't go through a whole pack in one day, occasionally I do. But on a weekly basis, I'd say if I have the money to spend on the name brands cigs, I probably spend around $40 - $50 on cigarettes
