Yes you can use pipe tobacco to make cigarettes. In fact, most roll your own (RYO) cigarette users use a 'non aromatic' pipe tobacco because it is taxed differently and costs MUCH less. It is effectively the same thing as cigarette tobacco but cut slightly wider.

I've done this for years; it's very enjoyable plus I find that most people love the smell of pipe tobacco and it makes for some good conversation. I generally don't inhale either, just puff on them like an actual pipe or a cigarillo. I've found that since pipe tobacco tends to be moister, especially the flavored varieties, that it talkes a little trial and error to roll one correctly so that it burns properly; they usually smoke a little better if you roll them a day or two in advance or leave the tobacco out for a few hours to dry a bit.
I've also noticed that when I roll them ahead of time, the tobaco tends to stain the paper a little; not a problem as far as the actual "smokability" goes. I prefer the more aromatic blends but go with what suits you.

The flint and the wick are the only parts that you need to replace so these kind of lighters are very reliable and seldom need repairs The flint is very easy to replace and you can get them at most any drugstore. the wick is a bit tougher to replace but lasts a lot longer than the flint and will give a couple of years of service under most normal use.

I tried an "experiment", just because I was curious. I bought 2 packs of American Spirit Organic cigarettes, just because their $10 coupons meant that they were, essentially, for free. I never smoked before but, figured, I'd do the 2 packs, free, and my curiosity would be filled.
After one pack I noticed that I felt a strange feeling in my body and mind. It felt like a hunger but without the stomach pangs. I realized that this was a sign of addiction but I had 1 more pack to go and then, I said to myself, I'll be done.
By the end of the 2nd pack, that feeling was more clear and intense. All I could think about was how one more cigarette would probably assuage it. So I bought another pack, thinking that I'd just have a few and be done. Needless to say, after I threw it out, I ended up retrieving it, rationalizing that when I finish, I didn't care how I felt, I'd stop. After all, 3 packs in a lifetime can't do anything to me.
Now, here I am, 6 months later, and smoking about 1 pack each day. The feeling when I stop is unbearable and now my curiosity is surely filled, and I'm a smoker that needs to figure out how to stop, just like all the other smokers who probably won't stop until I have no choice, if I'm lucky.
