Is it legal to import cigars from Europe?

Normally this reads, "is it legal to import Cuban cigars from a retailer in Europe?" And the answer is of course no, you can't import Cuban cigars from anywhere.

Dry-cured cigars are popular in Europe. These are machine-made cigars that have been dried in an oven so they don't need to be stored in a humidor. You can import all of these you want, so long as they don't contain Cuban tobacco.

What do cigars taste like?

For the pleasure of man... You either love 'em or hate 'em but those who love 'em, really love 'em... Here is some quotes from men who really loved 'em :

"Given the choice between a woman and a cigar, I will always choose the cigar." - Groucho Marx

"I drink a great deal. I sleep a little, and I smoke cigar after cigar. That is why I am in two-hundred-percent form." - Winston Churchill

"It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it hundreds of times." - Mark Twain

"Happiness? A good cigar, a good meal, a good cigar and a good woman - or a bad woman; it depends on how much happiness you can handle." - George Burns

"If your wife doesn't like the aroma of your cigar, change your wife." - Zino Davidoff

""If you can't send money, send tobacco." - (to the Continental Congress, 1776 ) George Washington

"[Tobacco] is the passion of honest men and he who lives without tobacco is not worthy of living." - Moliere (Jean Baptiste Poquelin)

"There's something about smoking a cigar that feels like a celebration. It's like a fine wine. There's a quality, a workmanship, a passion that goes into the smoking of a fine cigar". Demi Moore

"I smoke ten to fifteen cigars a day. At my age I have to hold on to something."

George F. Burns

Where can you buy Cuban cigars?

There is nothing like "best" in Cuban cigars. Recently production quality standards are quite high and it is a matter of taste and style. Keep in mind though that smaller sizes are usually produced by apprentices or not very experienced rollers, while big and special edition sticks are rolled only by the very skillful and experienced of the "torcedores" (and the leaves are much more carefully selected)

How does smoking affect children?

It affects them the same way it affects the person smoking. I am foster caring for a 10mo old baby who was the victim of 5 chain smokers in his house, a month later he still coughs like someone who has smoked for 30 years. Answer: I think smoking is more harmful to children than adults. When my parents were chain-smokers, I often got a sore throat, stuffed up nose, etc. My sister and I had more colds, etc. than my parents. On smog-alert days in Canada, residents, particularly children and elderly, are advised to stay indoors. So if governments are so concerned about protecting nonsmokers from secondhand smoke, why are parents allowed to smoke in their homes and cars with children present?

Where are Romeo y Julieta cigars produced?

Romeo y Julieta is a quality hand-rolled cigar. The quality is high and very consistent. In terms of strength, I would rate RyJs as between Macanudo, which is a very mild cigar, and Punch, which is a strongish medium.

What brand of cigars did Hellboy smoke?

Winston Churchill's cigar tastes were limited to a small number of favored suppliers. In particular Churchill's favorite cigar brands included Romeo y Julieta cigars and (the no longer available) La Aroma de Cuba. Churchill's cigar consumption was between 6 and 10 a day and he maintained a supply of several thousand in a room near his study in Chartwell. Winston usually smoked his cigars down to a couple of inches, these would in later years were collected and given to his gardener - the tobacco to be smoked in his pipe.

What should Room temperature be at to keep a humidor for cigars?

Most experts will tell you to stand by the rule of 70/70. That meaning 70 degrees temp and 70% humidity. This is difficult to do considering changes in temperatures and humidity. If one has a good humidor, and the proper equipment it isn't difficult to maintain. I would suggest buying a digital humidistat,a s they are much more accurate. I also use the "crystals" in a jar to maintain humidity. They are rather fool proof.....when you buy the jar, you simply fill the jar up to a certain level, and the soft crystals absorb the liquid....once the crystals shrink down to a certain level, you know to add more distilled water. One note: Try not to let the inside temperature of your humidor get above 85 degrees or you may hatch beetle larve in the cigars....these beetles will eat holes in your cigars and ruin every stick you have in the box.....good luck and enjoy!

Are cigars safer then cigarettes?

smoking cigars are not necessarily good for you but they are significantly better for you than cigarettes. Cigarette smoke is inhaled through your lungs and the additives are absorbed into your bloodstream which causes damage to your liver, kidneys, heart, and skin. Cigars dont have any additives and are not inhaled. a person who smokes cigars on occasion (say once or twice a week) can still perform athletically on a daily routine without having heart issues ( i dont know how more than twice a week will effect performance because i have not witnessed it). Also the chances becoming addicted to cigars is slim to none. Because there is always the possibility of mouth cancer cigars shouldn't be smoked anymore than once a day. Granted secondhand smoke from cigars is just as bad for people as cigarettes. They should always be smoked outdoors.

since you dont inhale the smoke is it a lot less damaging on your lungs, but on the other hand cigars are usually 5 times the size of a cigerette, they also have a higher chance of giving you mouth cancer because of the amount of smoke that stays in your mouth.

In the early 90s, cigars were promoted as safer, but that is not necessarily true - they create more carbon monoxide - which is a factor in cigar / cigarette related heart attacks. They also tend to be smoke for longer, which can increase certain cancer risks.

Remember that 5 out of every 14 smoking related deaths are second hand smoke related. First hand smokers not only get the negatives from first hand, they also get all the second hand too.

wronggggggg!

Cigar vs. Cigarette Use

One of the main thrusts behind cigars' popularity is the belief that they are a safe alternative to cigarettes because the smoke is not inhaled, and because cigars are commonly used only occasionally and not daily. Traditionally, cigar smokers hold the smoke in their mouth and throat, allowing nicotine and other chemical compounds to be absorbed through the mucous lining of the mouth and throat, rather than inhaling the smoke into their lungs.

A smoker can spend more than an hour puffing on a cigar, which has the equivalent risk of oral cancers as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Daily cigarette smokers and daily cigar smokers have similar levels of risk for oral cancers. Smokers who smoke more than five cigars per day have lung cancer risks comparable to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

The real difference between cigar and cigarette smoking is the type of cancers that cigar smokers develop, which is usually a head or neck cancer instead of the lung cancer so common among cigarette smokers. Unfortunately, people who switch from using cigarettes to cigars tend to smoke cigars the way they smoked cigarettes: by inhaling deeply and smoking often. Inhalation seems to raise the health risks of cigars so that the smoker will face the same health risks as with cigarette smoking.

Unlike cigarettes, cigars do not have filters to reduce their tar and nicotine content. Cigar packages do not carry the Surgeon General's health warnings that are required on other tobacco products. Like cigarettes, the additives in cigars are not regulated by any consumer or governmental agency and do not have to be reported or put on the label.

Cigar Smoke and Nicotine Content

Researchers currently believe that as few as five milligrams of nicotine a day is enough to cause addiction to the drug. The average cigarette has around one milligram of nicotine in it, and cigars have much higher levels of nicotine -- up to 400 milligrams in large, long cigars. This means that one cigar a day may be enough to cause addictive changes in your brain cells. Tobacco smoke contains more than 4,000 chemical compounds, including the following substances, which are also contained in household products with warning labels telling you to avoid inhaling them:

  • formaldehyde
  • ammonia
  • urethane
  • naphthalene

Other cigar smoke contents include the following substances:

  • carbon monoxide
  • hydrogen cyanide
  • arsenic
  • nicotine
  • benzene
  • vinyl chloride
  • ethylene oxide
  • other volatile aldehydes
  • cadmium
  • radioactive polonium 210

Because of the long aging and fermentation process for cigar leaves, because of the larger size of cigars and because of the toxic way it burns due to cigars' nonporous wrappers, cigar smoke has 20 times more ammonia than cigarettes and 80 to 90 times the number of highly carcinogenic, tobacco-specific nitrosamines. Cigar smoke also contains 30 times more carbon monoxide than cigarette smoke.

do some research!!!!!
No tobacco use is good for you. Cigars are better for you than cigarettes since the amount of smoke inhaled is less and cigarettes have many additives where hand rolled cigars are only tobacco. Some people are more offended by cigar second hand smoke. Some like it better. There is not much information on the effects of second hand cigar smoke.
* Neither cigars or cigarettes are good for you. While cigar smoke is generally not inhaled, but savored in the mouth and then the smoke is blown out, it still is related to mouth and lip cancer. Some people that do smoke cigars can inhale and thus, like cigarette smoke it can cause lip, mouth, throat and lung cancer.
Cigars increase your chances of developing cancer of the lips, tongue and mouth. If you are already a cigarette smoker, you will inevitably teach yourself to inhale the cigar smoke, so in that respect you will gain little. Net result: they're as bad or worse.
Cigars are less damaging to your health as long as they are not inhaled. Studies indicate health risks very similar for those who inhale. All tobacco products have associated health risks.

What is a cigar?

A cigar is made of rolled up tobacco. Much like a cigarette but large and does not contain additives. There are two kinds of cigars: machine-made cigars and hand-rolled cigars. All cigars contain three kinds of tobacco: filler, binder and wrapper. A machine-made cigar is made very much like a cigarette. The filler tobacco is chopped--if it is cigar tobacco at all (there are several kinds of tobacco, and many of them are completely wrong for making cigars) it is the trimmings from handmade cigar manufacture, or it is leaf not suitable for making premium cigars. The binder tobacco is Homogenized Tobacco Leaf--a sort of paper made from tobacco. The wrapper is leaf tobacco. There are two kinds of hand-rolled cigars: hand-bunched and machine-bunched. A hand-bunched cigar has the filler tobacco (all tobacco is a hand-rolled cigar is long-leaf) bunched into a cigar shape by a worker who then wraps first binder then filler tobacco around it. A machine-bunched cigar has the filler bunched and binder applied by a machine, and the wrapper is applied by hand.

Smokeless tobacco can be used a few different ways depending on how it is cut there is chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, snus (spitless), or snuff. there are a few different ways to use smokeless tobacco. most people enjoy putting the tobacco under the lip and spitting the juices except with the snus. but with snuff or course pulverized tobacco can be inhaled through the nose which isn't as common these days. i have also herd of people putting tobacco in there socks. this is actually highly effective in absorbing nicotine some experts may argue its dangerous as the pours in your feet are very large and may absorb too much nicotine but i have my doubts.

It puts carcinogenic material into your mouth, throat, and larynx, lips. And this seems fairly obvious, that you could get cancer from putting that in your mouth. But people who smoke cigars - besides lung cancer - also get cancer of the pancreas and bladder.

Smoking promotes tooth decay. Which sounds generally harmless and painless, but with deep cavities and poor oral hygiene come painful abscessed teeth.
