Shole's backer, James Densmore, sold manufacturing rights to E. Remington and Sons, who modified it further. The layout became popular with the Remington No. 2 typewriter, the first one to include a shift key for both upper and lower case letters, and later with the advent of personal computers.

Part of the reason why the QWERTY layout works is also because the letters are arranged in diagonal columns. The idea that the QWERTY layout is meant to slow typists down is incorrect - it's instead meant to prevent jams when the typist is typing rapidly.

A character set is a set of characters like QWERTY that is the standard character set for the keyboard. It includes all the characters you can see on your keyboard, but also ones that you cannot see, like letters from foreign alphabets, or special mathematical symbols or currency symbols. If you know how, it is possible to type them from your keyboard, even though you cannot see them on the keys, by using code numbers that the character sets have for each character. There are different character sets used on computers. Some of the well known ones are ASCII and UniCode. You can also get special characters through the Insert Symbol options in some applications, like word processors.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.

It is shaped in a way that makes it easy on the hands and wrists. Keyboards that are suppose to be much easier on the hands. They help with carpel tunnel problems. I have used one of these boards before and prefer to use one of them simply because it gives you more room to move your fingers around. These include the Maltron, the BAT, and -- to a lesser extent -- the one-handed Dvorak.
