What does SIMM stand for?

Single Inline Memory Module, used to refer to memory chips prior to the introduction of Dual Inline Memory Module.

I've a camcorder with 40GB solid state hard drive Why do computers still use unreliable mechanical hard drives rather than solid state ones now they can be as large in memory capacity?

As technology progresses, so does the need for larger capacity hard drives. It is common today for computers to have 250+ GB hard drives, you can obtain more capacity for the money with a "mechanical" hard drive. For example a 1TB drive is less than $100 (USD), where as a solid state drive of this capacity would be well into the thousands of dollars. Simply put, the solid state drive is too expensive to be practically used in the every day computer. Eventually solid state drives will replace mechanical ones but not until they become economically worth it. By the way, I have a JVC Everio HDD camcorder with 40GB hard drive (giving from 9 (at highest resoolution) to 50 (at lowest resolution) hours of video) and a further expansion slot for an SD card, and find it absolutely brilliant and great value for money - producing video of the quality normally only available with machines that cost three or four times as much!

What does computer ROM do?

as far as i know there is two different things,, one of which is ram this stores the fata on your computer temporarily (from when u turn ur system on till u turn it off) the other thing is rom,, now rom stores the data permenetly

Ram stands for what kind of memory?

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. This memory is not like a Flash Drive or Hard Drive, as it is volatile; this means it only temporarily stores data, while it is powered. It is used so that while a computer is running, data which the processor requires rapid access to (e.g. a running program) can be stored and accessed much faster.

What type of ram can be used on a hp laptop?

Download the system scanner at crucial.com. This will not only tell you what type of RAM your laptop can use, but also whether your laptop can take any more RAM.

What is the difference between supercomputer and mainframe?

A mainframe is a large computer designed for general computation purposes. A supercomputer is a mainframe optimized for scientific computations and extremely high computing speed. Usually to be considered a supercomputer, the machine must benchmark at at least 10 times as fast as the fastest standard commercial mainframe on the market at the time.

Definition of control memory in computer system architecture?

Control memory is a random access memory (RAM) consisting of addressable storage registers. It is primarily used in mini and mainframe computers. It is used as a temporary storage for data. Access to control memory data requires less time than to main memory; this speeds up CPU operation by reducing the number of memory references for data storage and retrieval. Access is performed as part of a control section sequence while the master clock oscillator is running.

What are notches on DIMM's for?

since their has been many different types of ram created over the years a unique notch insures that you can only use the correct type of ram that works with your motherboard.

What technology is used for replication?

There are 4 parts of technology that are used to replication. The 4 levels are storage, database, record bases and statement based.

How many bytes does it take to stream a movie?

Depending on the movie length, a 1 hour movie will take up to 100,000 bytes to be produced and a 2 hour movie will take around 300,000 bytes.

1 What is a Byte?

The combination of bits used to represent a particular letter number or character. e.g.: data bytes,

How important is the virtual memory in our memory management?

Without virtual memory some computer programs wont be able to run. As the memory increases the computer may slow down its processes.

A modern convenient storage of electricity?

Yeah!! There is a modern convenient storsge of electricity

The personalization memory technique works well because?

it's easier to remember things that have happened to us personally.

How do you fit your graphics card into your computer?

There should be a plug in the motherboard for it, there should be a memory card that looks exactly like it in a slot that looks exactly like it. Line up the graphics card with the slot and put it in, then put the clamps on the side.

If this doesn't make sense to you, go have someone do it for you.

What is th difference between a MB and an KB in reference to computer memory?

MB stands For Megabyte (well actually Mebibyte but everyone calls them Megabytes anyway) and KB is Kilobyte (Kibibyte, same deal). 1 MB = 1024KB

Is a CPU external or internal?

A CPU is internal.

Edit:

It also has nothing to do with the computer memory category.
