What can be used instead of eggs or butter in a cookie recipe?
In many things you can use margarine, lard, or shortening instead of butter, or a combination of any of them. I actually use 1/3 butter, 1/3 shortening, and 1/3 lard for the fat in my homemade pie crust, which gives excellent results. Just keep in mind that margarine has a higher water content than butter, so depending on what you are baking, the results may be just a little different than with butter.
How do you make short bread cookies?

- Preheat oven to 180 degrees, first get a wooden spoon and put the butter in to a large bowl and beat until the butter is soft, then add the sugar and mix through and then sieve the flour and mix.
- Secondly mix the mixture until it starts to come together then use your hands to mould the mixture into a ball.
- Lightly dust a clean surface and rolling pin with flour, place your ball on the surface and start to roll if it keeps sticking add more flour.
- Cut your rolled out shortbread into any shapes you want and place them on your baking tray and place in the oven for 30 minutes
- After the 30minutes leave your short bread to cool and there you have home made short bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
