How much can you decrease your 5k time in 5 months when its currently 37 min?
It depends on if you go running everyday and for how long. It's better to vary the distance you run per week (e.x. week 1 20miles, week 2 20miles, week 3 15miles, week 4 25miles) because it helps with your distance and speed. It also depends on if you push yourself of not, because if you don't then you probably won't see the results you want. I would also cross train and work on my core.

What causes the leg muscles to lock during running?
For anaerobic running (sprinting) use of glycogen as a substrate for energy will result in a high concentration of hydrogen ions and blood lactate. Although you may hear that blood lactate is responsible for "locking up" during these events, it is actually the [H+] that lowers the Ph of the blood and in turn causes your body to start protecting itself by blocking actin from attaching to myosin, thereby preventing muscle contraction.

Boys:
Patricio Patterson he attends John Paul Stevens High school in San Antonio, Texas. He is coached by Tracy Hesson. He enjoys much of the same things that Lauren does minus the sugary fatty foods and sodas he is a health nut and president of his schools health education club

Lauren Martin she is on the same team as Patricio, she is also under the same coach as him. She enjoys shopping all the time and oreos, soda, and anything that has a ridiculous amount of sugar in it...yet she is still pulling amazing times for her 2 mile race.

How can you get faster as a cross country runner?
That's easy! Practice, practice, practice! If you can't, get in shape. Go to a gym, or if you can't, lift weights and jog in place/on a treadmill at your house. Eat healthier, and eat bananas, potatoes, and saltines to avoid getting cramps. But, of course, practice. I was in cross country last year, and I was the top-seventh runner on my team. Also, make sure that you have the right gear; sunglasses, hair-tie if you're a girl, running shorts or sweatpants, comfortable and light short-sleeve shirt, running jacket if it's cold out, thin socks, pads in your shoes, and proper running shoes (asics and nikes are best). Hope this helps!

Track and field is only like cross country in that they both involve running. While cross country involves a long, continuous run, usually off of any track, track and field involves many events that different athletes specialize in. Not all of these events involve running, such as the discus throw. The longest run in a high school track meet is two miles, all of which occurs on a track, whereas a high school cross county meet is five kilometers, or 3.1 miles.

What is the cross country running distance for grade 5 kids?
Most elementary schools (k-4) do not have a specific "team" but more a running club per se. They run distances based on their individual capabilities and ages. Mostly, they run 1 mile or 2, if they are really good. It is very rare that you can see a specific talent in children that young, because they haven't built up their stamina yet. There are also running clubs for young children not affiliated with the schools. These are much more disciplined and they run much more. I have even see some of them compete in high school cross country meets. It was kinda scary to be honest.
Hard to say. The first Nike shoes were distributed to athletes that were competing in the US Olympic Track & Field Trials in 1972. Since those trials were in Eugene, Oregon, and Steve Prefontaine was one of those athletes (and went to the Summer Olympics in the 5000 meters), then we can assume that it wasn't just him that wore Nikes. He was however the first major track athlete to actively endorse and use them.

My estimate of the 5k xc mark a guy would need to get a full scholarship for cross country and track is probably 15:30, maybe even faster. However there are plenty of smaller time division 1 programs that will give you a partial scholarship for significantly slower times. For a girl, that standard for a full ride is probably around 18:00.
