my miniature dachshund is a rabbit ( aka the runt of a miniature dachshund litter ). she is 4 inches tall and 1 foot long. she weighs 9 pounds. most mini doxies get a lot bigger than that like.. 6 inches tall and 1 1/2 feet long. ( that's a lot bigger for a mini dachshund ) what they weigh is all up to what kind of dog food you give them. my dachshund eats wet food and diamond sports dog dry food which i highly recamend.

A healthy size for a miniature dachshund who eats well and gets enough to eat should weigh from between 9 to 11 pounds. Full grown, they will measure 16 to 19 inches long and stand about 8 inches tall.

Dachshunds don't have webbed feet as they weren't originally bred as water dogs.

First, the name is 'Dachshund' (Dox-hoont) and all dogs whine if they think it will make you pay attention to them.

Dachshunds originate from Germany. The German word, 'dachs' means badger, and what the person above got incorrect as far as I know, being German, is that 'hund', although sounding hound, means 'dog.' So the real meaning of the word 'dachshund,' is 'badgerdog', because the dachshund was bred to crawl through badger dens to hunt them. The dachshund was bred with a loud bark to tell its master when it has caught the badger.

Having a dachshund myself, that is definitely whinier than most dogs, I can guess that the dog's clear and loud whine was bred into the dachshund for the same reason.

The other possibility may be because of its German Blood relation to the Doberman Pinscher, which was proved by scientists, that the blood carried the gene to have a clear, and loud whine, because dobermans have the same gene.

There are two possibilites above, but I'm sure there are more.

The correct pronunciation of "dachshund" is similar to darks - hoont (with the 'oo' pronounced as in 'woof'). You will more commonly hear it pronounced incorrectly as dash-hound.

He probably has rabies and should be put down. Check with your vet on the cost of euthenasia.

uhhh.. no.. rabies doesn't show up exclusively when you take your dog for a walk. It's either there or it isn't.

The dog froths and snorts only when being walked? Is the collar too tight? Is he pulling to hard on the leash and choking himself? You might want to talk to a vet about this just to be safe.

Your dog could have an allergy or a respiratory problem. Whatever the cause of this condition, a trip to the vet is in order.
