Assuming you are alert for respiratory depression and breathing rates below 12/minute, I have seen immediate release Dilaudid used for acute breakthrough pain when Duragesic patches were being used for chronic pain management.

Those with allergies and/or auto-immune responses to these proteins suffer greatly and each incidence of exposure does a great amount of harm potenitally leading to stomach/intestinal cancers.

dilaudid is much stronger in terms of milligrams, most come in 2,4,6, and 8 mg doses. wereas percoset (oxycodone) will usually come in 5,10,20 mg doses. it depends on the patient some feel dilaudid works better ,others oxycodone.

I was not yet on 8mgs of Dilaudid but I was on 4mg-6mgs every 4 hrs for severe back pain and neck pain. My doc gave me my last bottle and told me I am not filling this any longer for you. I was in shock as I have had over 40 surgeries & DDD in my spine. If I do not have something for pain I am in a wheelchair. But... I have tried ever pain management doc and all they want to do is Epidurals and I have had 15 and they cause more pain for me than help. So I am forced to get off by white knuckling it. I called my doc and asked for compazine, Lexapro both 10mgs. And I have a panic disorder so I have Xanax 1mgs. I started 3 and half weeks ago. I am doing it!!! I am now.... after two weeks of sick to my stomach, shakes, tears, yawning, sneezing in my sleep 30 in a row, feeling like my legs were being pulled off of me (muscle cramps)! I stayed in a recliner, with a blanket and heating pads, and then burning up back to chills for about 8 days. As soon as you think you can't do it take a half of a Xanax. I take my Lexapro 1st thing in the am. Mid morning I get sick to my stomach so I take a compazine and go laydown with a ginger ale. I have no appetite. Drink a ton of liquids!!! Flush your system! This is working for me?? I don't know about others, check with your doctor first! I am now taking 1mg- 1/2 mg of Dulaudid only when the pain is to much to take and that is about every 10 hrs. So it is slowly going away!!! I still need something for pain so I am going to have to talk to my doctor as my Neuro Simulators are not helping enough. We shall see or I am going to be in bed or a wheelchair 24/7. Just be very careful if you try this on your own!!! I didn't want the meds that help you get off an Narcotic because I would be withdrawing twice!!! Read up on it before you do! Believe me ONCE is all I ever want to go through ever again! This is not fun!!!

Edit: It all depends on what panel test you are taking. There are 5, 7, and 9 (?) I believe...Cocaine will show up on all of them, morphine as well on all of them, but dilaudid will only start to show up on the 7 and 9 panel screens. It is a synthetic form and goes deeper than just the morphine on the opiates in the 5 panel

Most if not all pills (except marinol) are out of your system in 2-6 days. Dilaudid is a synthetic form of Heroin(well, if youre eating/shooting them you already know that) So a week at max.

To say that the hospital will not choose to use Diloted for anything else other than surgery related pain, or gallblader attacks, is FALSE. I suffer from migraines. Yes I know that would fall under the ILLNESS category, but just wanted to make it clear, that if the hospital chooses so, depending on your pain, they will administer Diloted due to it's extreme affectiveness at relieving the pain in a matter of minutes in some cases. My wife was also given Diloted in the ER for severe cramping. It's really up to the ER doctor as for what they choose to give you, but in most cases for severe pain, Diloted will be the medication they choose to administer.

I was given dilaudid in the hospital after a motorcycle accident, and it sent me into hallucinations and pretty signficant psychotic episodes. They had me on morphine, and a host of other meds which did not cause this problem. So, for me, the answer was yes. Very scary.

Dilaudid is a very serious painkiller. Penicillin is an antibiotic, which has no connection to dilaudid. A penicillin allergy would not prevent you from using dilaudid. However, dilaudid is addictive, and it should not be used unless it is really necessary, and only on a doctor's orders. Don't play around with drugs of this kind.

Demerol and Oxycodone are both shcedule II Drugs, but there is a difference in strength between the two. Demerol is usually used as a post operative pain medication while the patient is in the hospital, and it is also used when someone returns home after a serious operation. You have to keep in mind that even though there are so many pain medications avilable for a Dr. to prescribe, specific medications work better on certain conditions better than others.

Oxycodone is a more commonly used medication by Dr's. It is used for moderate to severe pain. For example, it may be used after having your wisdom teeth removed, or if you break a bone or hurt your back, ect..

An opiate for severe pain would either be OxyContin, Dilaudid or Opana but, most likely the last two since OxyContin has a huge stigma around it.

As far as I know (things could have changed) but I believe they come in 2mg, 4mg, and 8mg. I know it doesnt sound like much, but there's a reason for that... Dilaudid is considered one of the strongest opiates out there.
