Debarking, or devocalization, is a controversial surgical procedure in dogs that permanently stops a dog from barking through surgery. Debarking reduces the volume and pitch of a dog's bark making it sound more as if the dog is hoarse or whispering. This is done in response to problematic amounts of barking. Up to 35% of dog owners report problems with barking, which can cause disputes and legal problems that are often considered more important than the individual canines themselves.

I'm supplying this edit in argument to the aforesaid information, as I have problems with the accuracy of the stated information. Hearing is the least important sense to a dog, so losing the ability to bark loudly won't impact communication. Dogs rely heavily on body language, and even deaf dogs who never learn to bark do very well in multiple dog households. Debarking a dog usually still allows them to bark, it just reduces how loud the barks are and how far the barks carry.

This surgery can literally be a life saver for someone whose dog barks so much that the neighbors are complaining. Owners can face fines, confiscation and euthanasia of the dog if the barking can't be brought under control by other means. Many dogs are problem barkers, and no amount of training, medications or bark collars will stop them, especially if its due to anxiety.

The animal rights activists want to outlaw debarking, but they don't present a solution to the problem presented by the many dogs that will be killed when their desperate, loving owners have run out of other options. I think it's fair on the one hand to say that any intrusive surgery should only be performed when medically necessary, as any surgery creates a health risk to the subject. Surgery without good clinical cause is unethical. That said, we live in a world where well-meaning dog owners may be presented with the options of giving up a barking dog or facing legal repercussions that can be quite extensive, and may well force the issue. Putting a barking dog out on the street, admitting it to Animal Control, either voluntarily or seeing the animal seized under court order, or putting the dog down in order to comply with a court order can be the other side of de-barking. I would suggest that, in the case of a choice between debarking an animal, or putting it down, de-barking has met the criterion for medical necessity. In this case, I leave it to the reader to determine which is the greater kindness. ----------------------------------------- i got a better opinion of what to do in this situation. instead of debarking your dog or putting it to sleep because of the barking and the neighbors getting bothered an all... how about you just dont get a dog at all. if you own a pet and you cant control it, best option would be to be petless and that would pretty much keep dogs from being put to "sleep" or being "debarked".

This is just my opinion, but I have to say yes. My dad was on the internet looking at a video of a dog licking the screen, and my dog, Emma, she's s Golden Retriever, saw it. She ran over to it, and tried to greet it. I also saw this video on YouTube of a dog named Molly watching Air Buddies, and she was trying to greet them (it was cute). So my answer is yes. I totally 100% believe that dogs can see pictures.

A good way to check if your dog can see pictures is to put him in front of a television/computer screen that is low on the floor (or low enough to where it is eye level with the dog) and turn on at least a 1:00 video of a dog. Sit him in front of it and see what he does. If this doesn't help, try to come up with an experiment of your own. You may have a lot of fun doing this. Hope I helped you out!

Possibly she is in heat and wants to mate.If she's pregnant , she's going in to labor. If she's not pregnant, check her over gently for wounds or a piece of glass in her paw, something like that. Be very gentle and be careful she doesn't bite you . Some dogs get aggresive when sick or in pain.If you find nothing, call the Vet. It may be something internal.And don't wait til morning.

Whether it is classified as bipolar or by some other name, yes, dogs can be depressed in many forms. Some dogs can miss their owners so much they will become lethargic, chew their paws, their hair may fall out or they may chew at their fur and have patches missing. It is important that ANY dog gets lots of loving and lots of exercise. Generally when a dog becomes aggressive and moody in nature there is a physical cause for it. Example: My next door neighbors had a Golden Retriever pup and I gave the pup it's first toy. I would go over and play with the pup right up until it became an adult. Without warning the dog became extremely aggressive in nature and would bite. I refused to go over to visit because of the dog. Most owners will say 'Oh he/she won't bite' but no one knows their pet that well and I knew this one would. The owners treated the dog well. When the dog was 10 it had to be put to sleep and it turned out the dog had a cancerous tumor on the brain.

it is a good thing to go to the vet but you know what you should maybe try a little trick i use on my dog, well you lay them on their side and press them down until they lie still when you take your hand off and then turn on classical music really loud and just let them lay there for 1 hour and that should be good!

They're smelling the smells. They're trying to figure out where other animals have been and whether or not another dog or cat has gotten into that area and marked it already.

If it is separated with it parents then it probaly misses them and its sisters. It is also maybe wondering what is going on and where it is. It will just take atleast 3 weeks for the puppy to be used to you.

I think it is better to have two females because there is a chance she may come in a silent heat (a heat where only she and other dogs know) and her and the male may get tied up and she get pregnant. Also, most same sex dogs get along better.

No it is actually very unhealthy and it can cause serious health problems such as over weight and constant diarrhea. Dog snacks should not be used as a meal but as a reward.

Okay, a couple months back i got my own English bulldog puppy.

They pretty much sleep whenever they need too. for example, the puppies get worn out easily then sleep for a little bit. as they get older they sleep less.

Lock your knees, lift up your bum, put hands on horses neck. Also go straight at jump at a trot or canter.

You better separate them. If your dog is especially violent, they could get into fights.... and no one wants to deal with that!

With experience, I say about three weeks. If you'll notice when a puppy opens it's eyes, they have a clear blue coloring to them. I freaked and called my vet who informed me that a week after their eyes open is when they have to develop so that they aren't blinded by harsh light right when they open.

This is not a quick fix, but will require you to work with your dog over time. There are two main points: 1)Do not pay special attention to your dog during the storm, and 2)Distract your dog by giving them something to work on, such as a bone or a Kong filled with peanut butter.

When we try to soothe our dogs by paying more attention to them during a storm, this only reinforces the behavior we're trying to stop. If a dog knows that she will get extra affection if she whines or trembles during a storm, she will continue to exhibit this behavior. In effect, you are rewarding her for her fear by giving her affection. The best thing to do is simply ignore the behavior.

The next step is to give your dog something that will distract her from the storm. You can toss a ball for her, give her a rawhide chew, pull out a special toy that she can only have during bad weather, or give her a food-filled Kong. Not only will this serve to distract your dog from the storm, it will also give her something positive to associate with thunder and lightning. Hopefully, her excitement and interest in a new activity or toy will outweigh her fear of the storm.
