A dog is like a human , it yawns when it is tired or about to go to sleep! :D It also yawns as a sign of disapproval, or when it is stressed, and needs to calm itself down.
Does the Don Sullivan perfect dog training method work for pit bulls?
First you pay six dollars to get the product "First out of the warehouse" then you don't even get it for at least a week - minimum. Then before you even get it you have telemarketers calling you trying to sell you free gas, health insurance and some other junk - at 7:20pm....yeah at night. You think they would wait until you get the product that has taken a week to there, even though you paid extra, to arrive before they try and sell you more junk.
My experience is, yes. It works as advertised.
It seems like I'm one of the first folks to reply about the system as a customer, so I'm happy to provide a few details. First of all, I'm not a professional trainer but I'm 45 and I've had dogs most of my life. About 15 years ago my wife and I got a new dog (shortly after getting married) and went through weeks of traditional obedience training. It worked but it took the full 8 weeks to get just a few basic commands down and we still had all the 'regular' problems like jumping up, bolting, excited peeing, etc.
When our son was born we finally had to give up our very beloved dog because the only way to keep her out of our toddler's face was to keep her locked in another room or in her crate. It just wasn't fair. (A very good friend has her to this day and she's a great dog.)
We recently adopted a new puppy and I bought Don Sullivan's system a few weeks later. There's no rocket science here. There's no 'magic bullet' but the 2 DVD set has resulted in way better, faster, more complete training and a better behaved puppy than I would have thought possible.
Sullivan believes in no-treat training because if you teach a dog to behave for a treat, when there's a distraction that's more interesting than a treat (kids playing with a frisbee, another dog walking nearby, etc.) your dog won't listen. Don't get me wrong, my dog gets treats, just not as part of training.
After just a few weeks of working with my dog, she understands SIT, STAY, DOWN, COME, SIT at a distance, GO TO YOUR BED, GO PEE (imagine a dog that's still a puppy but can go to the bathroom on command), WAIT (similar to a curb command), and more.
I actually answered this Wiki question as the result of a request following some extensive forum posting I did about the Don Sullivan training over at Amazon forums, so if you want lots more discussion about this system, there's more there.
Since this is my first post here I'm not sure how the conversation threading works but I guess if there are follow-up questions, I'll try to look for them and post replies, especially if you have some specific questions about the system I can answer for you.

Another satisfied customer here. I am not familiar with the format of this website and I cannot find the reply that I added to the discussion, so I thought I'd add to this gentleman's message as well:
I was on another website not long ago which had a similar question. I have this product that you are referring to, and I am a big fan. Rather than typing out another reply, I thought I'd copy and paste my post from the other website...
The System that you are referring to is called, Don Sullivan's "Secrets to Training the Perfect Dog System." The System includes two DVDs with 5 hours of instruction (over 70 topics are covered!), a training collar called the "Command Collar," a set of three training lines, and a neat little starter booklet titled, "Quick Start Guide."
I must say that this System is the most comprehensive and effective dog training product I have ever seen and used; and I have tried a lot of products; mostly useless! I really enjoyed watching and listening to Don Sullivan (people apparently call him "The Dog Father") on his DVDs. I was truly impressed by his depth of knowledge of dog behavior, and the techniques he teaches are very simple. He makes so much sense and his methods really do achieve immediate results, if applied as instructed.
Some might think that the success stories on his infomercial are too good to be true, but the "within minutes" changes are real (I've witnessed it for myself!). I really like the fact that almost every problem dog behavior is covered in the DVDs. Even though your dog may not display all these bad behaviors, you can go to the topics that are most relevant to your situation. Don offers realistic solutions to things that you wouldn't have thought solvable.
It is a great quality product, and decent value for money considering the abundance of solid information and instruction included in the DVDs. I think that achieving success with this product comes down to the owner. As Don says himself in his DVDs, he has provided dog owners with everything they need to achieve the relationship with their dogs that they have always dreamed of, now it is up to them. His methods are guaranteed to work (he even offers a 30 day money back guarantee - you won't need it!), as long as you follow what he says and demonstrates.
I think anyone who says that this product didn't work as well as they had hoped, either changed things or didn't apply things thoroughly enough. There's so much dog training advice out there and it's hard not to let your previous opinions about what works best influence you. But, Don's methods are like nothing else out there, so if you can put aside your personal biases, and if you're willing to give his product 100% effort, then you will get 200% back - for you and your dog!
As you can tell, I've got nothing but praise for this product. I'm a big fan. It's not a scam. Don seems like an down-to-earth guy who honestly wants to help struggling owners and their dogs, and he seems to be really tuned in to what works. At last...something that works!

From,
More than satisfied
Hello All,
I am also new to this format so forgive me if I cause a problem with my entry.
There are lots of dog training methods out there, just as there are lots of different types of dogs. What works for one may not work for others. But whether you use treat training, Sullivan's system, or another method, the important thing is to train your dog to be a good citizen. Socialize him and train him properly and you will have a true companion rather than an unruly pet.
Having said that, I echo the comments above about Don Sullivan's training system. My wife and I watched the DVD several times before we decided the method was sound and safe for our new puppy. As with any good training system, there is as much the people need to learn as there is for the dog.
Once we understood the system and decided we could consistently apply the techniques, we fitted our dog with the command collar and went to work. After just two days (about 20 minutes each day) our German Shepherd pup Rocket will now perform a down/stay for as long as we want him to, outdoors, with numerous distractions. He will walk comfortably on-leash, and we are working on off-leash walking, heeling, and a fun game of fetch.
It wasn't painful, there was no yelling, snapping, biting, hard jerking, or anything unpleasant about it. It did not break the dog's spirit. He is every bit as energetic and happy as he was before we started. Sullivan advises to incorporate plenty of play time in with training so the dog can have fun while training.
I have seen a number of comments on other sites saying that Don's method is cruel to the dog. This is not true. The methods are designed to be minimally uncomfortable to the dog and to provide plenty of praise for performing correctly. Most dogs understand what is wanted of them very quickly and therefore don't need strong corrections. This in my opinion is much better than continually feeding the dog treats. As the comment above states, treat training only works when the treat is better than what is distracting the dog. I found this to be true when we started training our dog using treats. Treats make dogs fat and are of limited value. Give your dog a treat at the end of a good play session.
Quite simply, the system works. It's not complicated, cruel or time consuming. Cruel is leaving your dog locked up in a crate for hours at a time because he is not trained well enough to behave when other people come around. Or leaving him alone in a kennel for days at a time because he is not trained well enough to accompany you when you go on trips. Train yourself and your dog to live in harmony and your dog will be the companion you hoped for when you got him.

OK... Here is another one.
Commend collar is plastic prong...In commercial, they don't show that but it is.
Freedom line is just cheap one. Most important thing of this package is DVD.
Before I bought this DVD, I looked up websites. They say he is lier.... we should use treat if we love dog... he exists only in the commercial... or he ran away....blah blah blah. I was confused.
Anyways I took risk. and than what? It is work. simple.
PS. If you oder from official website....shipping gonna take a month.
Me: Hi, I wanna buy this product, but i just wondering that it will work with 5 weeks puppy too? because I have 2 dogs
OfficialWeb: Yeah, It is perfect time to train them.
Me: Good, how about shipment?
OfficialWeb: Normally it takes 4 week from your credit card approved
Me:My puppy gonna be 9 weeks at the time....:(
OfficialWeb: Still nice time to train them.
Dogs are known to lower blood pressure especially in elderly people. Dogs are also stress relievers and are good companions. They are also used for jobs such as helping the blind and detecting drugs. The list of things a dog can do is probably endless.
What is your dog scared of when he keeps looking up?
My dog does the same thing, but it doesn't mean they are scared. The dog is probably sniffing the air or looking around. As wierd as that sounds it is true.
Why are people scard of dog's?
*Most people are scared of dogs, because...
-DOGS ARE ANNOYING AND I HATE THEM!!!! SO THEREFORE I AM SCARED OF THEM!!!

Can bronchitis in a dog be contagious to another dog?
No. If you and the dog are both having trouble, it's probably another source. Maybe mold in the house or some other irritant that is close by. Check it out.
AwesomeDude4 says:
Dogs are AWESOME and IMPORTANT. Police dogs help find criminals, they sniff drugs, and they patrol places like prisons or high-security areas. Therapy dogs comfort disaster surviors or help people with mental illness. Herding dogs help farmers round up sheep and cattle, and make very good companions for humans. (I used to have a collie). That is pretty much why a dog is called "Man's Best Friend". Cats are very lazy, and they do nothing but hiss, meow, and scratch people. (No offense to cat lovers)
Im just adding on to what Dominque said.
Can hunting dog also be a good house pet?
Yes, they can. Police dogs are good house pets. A lot of the officers who has these dogs bring them home with them at night. You just have to train it basic obedience so they are easy to handle. Most hunting dogs have soft mouths. This is a plus when dealing with children because tey will be less likely to hurt them.
Is it unhealthy for a male dog to be around a female that's spayed?
No. While a male dog may try to hump legs, stuffed animals and furniture at any time, a female dog is only willing and physically able to accept a male dogs sexual advances when she is in heat. When a female is in heat her vulva gets enormous and she leaks lubricating fluid and will hold her tail to the side and stand in a position allowing for penetration from the male dog.
A spayed female will not be able to be mated with. She will not stand in a way which would allow entry by the male and her vulva and vaginal opening would not allow for the penetration. Not to mention the fact that she would move and attack him if he tried to penetrate her. Spayed and neutered dogs will sometimes mount one another but it is typically in a show of dominance or for a male dog it will end up being more of a masturbatory move. If you have an unfixed male getting him a stuffed animal to pleasure himself on is kind.
Yes, if she has the right tools. Barehanded, the woman might not have a chance to win since the dog is too fast and has powerful bites. A woman from a far distance with a gun could kill an attacking dog by a single shot to the dog's head. With a knife or a club, a woman from a short distance could also kill a dog.
How do you break a dog from killing chickens?
Aha! Taste of "first blood." There are several ways to stop your dog from doing this. It may sound cruel and gross, but if you want a quick step to getting your dog out of this behavior, take the dead chicken, put it in a gunny sack or an old pillow case until it stinks to high heaven (keep the dog outside in a well-fenced in yard) and tie the pillow case with chicken inside around his neck so he can't get at it. Then everytime you see the dog, in a stern voice, say "Shame!" Dogs are bright creatures and between the smell of that dead chicken rotting and your scolding the dog will get the message. Do this for 2 days and then put a clothes pin on your nose (just kidding) and give your dog a good bath. I would start out with a paste of baking soda and warm water (about 2 cups full of it) and lather it on your dog (be sure it doesn't get in the dogs eyes) then rinse off and shampoo as usual.
Another way you can do this is when the dog has the dead chicken, use an empty roll from aluminum foil or wax paper, put a medium sized short chain inside and attached it to the inside. Then go up to the dog and hit the ground very close to the dog (NEVER HIT THE DOG) with the roll (chain inside.) They hate the noise!
If your dog doesn't like water (most dogs don't like it in their face) get a clean squirt bottle with cold water, and when you see the dog with that chicken, give him several good skirts of cold water in the face and again in a stern voice say "Shame. Bad dog!" Dogs understand more than people give them credit for.
If you find your dog with a fresh kill, then put the dog somewhere else away from the chicken. Sprinkle quite a bit of cayenne pepper or black pepper all over the chicken and turn the dog loose! One snort of that and he'll get the message. Also be sure you have fresh water nearby in case he gets any in his mouth. He may end up with a hot mouth, and even possibly an upset tummy, it won't kill him, but I can guarantee you he won't do it again.
Good luck Marcy

Whenever a dog kills another animal be it a chicken, a cat, or another dog, it is acting in it's natural predatory mindset. Dogs with a strong prey drive will chase things weather it is a tug toy that you're pulling by a string or a chicken running for its life. Your job as the pet owner is to teach the dog the things that it can chase and catch and the things that it can't. One way of doing this is by taking a live chicken and putting it into a wire cage so that the dog can see it, smell it and hear it. Take the dog to the cage on a leash with a choker chain or a pinch collar and as soon as the dog begins to show any interest in the chicken, give the dogs leash a sharp quick jerk and say "no" in a firm voice. This should distract the dog and cause it to look at you. as soon as it does give it another command such as sit or lay down and praise it when it obeys. This will teach the dog that looking at the chickens earns him a correction but sitting and laying down on command earns him praise. Continue this for several minutes (4-5 min. for puppies, 5-10 min. for adult dogs) 2 - 3 times a day. By the beginning of the 3rd day the dog should not even look in the direction of the chickens. Eventually the dog will completely ignor the chickens even while they are running free around him.
My parents raised chickens. The first time our dog killed one, Mother put the dog on his lead and put the chicken just beyond his reach. Every time she passed by, she would pick up the chicken and wap him lightly [or maybe not so lightly] on the nose with it and say BAD DOG. This went on for a couple of days. He never touched another chicken all though they were free range and were never caged. He was otherwise a very good and friendly dog.
Do weimaraners get along with other dogs?
Yes, they can. The key is to introduce them slowly. Put both dogs on a leash and make sure you have complete control before they see each other. As soon as they see each other they will become very excited, and they will want to pull you to get to the other dog, in most cases. Let the dogs smell each other while keeping the leash taut and staying in control. If there are no signs of the dogs fighting you can let them start being more active with one another, but you still need to keep a hold of their leashes. If the dogs stick their butts in the air, this is a sign of wanting to play, not fight. Playing can sounds vicious, so you are forewarned. For the first time the dogs play, keep the leashes attached to their collars just in case of an emergency. This allows you to be able to grab a hold of your dog easily to break up a fight. Also, spraying water out of a hose onto a dog fight can help to stop it.
Why is your dog throwing up yellow bile and seems to have a fever?

DOGS ROCK STOP ABUSING & START LOVING!!!!
Why would a dog show submissive behavior when he is petted?
Dogs crave attention. They also love to be scratched in some places more than others, like behind the ears and under the chin.
Because it shows that you are giving them affection; plus, it feels good to them.
Do dogs lick you because they love you or they like the taste of your skin?
They lick you beacasue dogs like to show compassion. They lick you because they love you, but also if you have been around other dogs/animals they like the taste.
Can you put nine dogs in eight kennels?
yes. if you put the biggest ones by themselves, the put the two smallest ones together.
Why did your dog poop in your bed?
Does it eat a lot of grass? Dogs do this as a natural way to sooth their stomach, but too much can cause excessive vomiting.
Try giving it dry foods in small amounts, perhaps two or three times a day, as large meals may cause it to be sick. Make sure the dog doesn't run around too much about a half hour before and after eating - it causes bloat, and a high body temperature may have an effect too.
#2 If the dog is vomiting alot it could be pancreatis, do not use fats or bones, if this worsens go to vet immediatly i thought is was because they were sick
Can a male dog spray after neuter?
Well i dont know i kinda feel bad for the little guy because he just got his manhood taken away
Can a Yorkshire terrier eat turkey?
I feed mine turkey, as long as it's off the bone. NEVER give any dog ANY type of "bird-bone" as it will splinter and can ruin a dogs internal organs, thus killing it quickly!!
I am a "bad mommy" and give my 2 yorkies Chicken Sausages & the regular Vienna Sausages!! I told my vet and he wasn't too concerned about it!! As long as he's okay with it, I'M OKAY with it!!
Why do spayed female dogs kill others newborn puppies?
Not all dogs are good with puppies. Puppies can be very rude and annoying. An adult with little patience or experience with puppies may expect the puppy to act like a well-behaved adult. They may attempt to correct the puppy for rude behavior, not realizing the puppy is much more fragile than another adult. This is especially true if the puppy is not her own. By instinct, mother dogs can tell if a puppy is weak and unlikely to survive, and may kill it for the benefit of the stronger pups in the litter.
What do you do if your dog licked their paw raw?
It grows back people. Unless its infected a doctor cant do anything for your dog. How do I know because my dogs both ripped their skin off their paws, the black part. It literally fell off. It just heals like your skin would in fact it looks just like new....I also soaked it in Epsom salt as recommended by the doctor. So unless it's infected don't waste your money....Oh and in case you're wondering do I walk my dog? My vet said yes but limit to about 10 minutes at a time and put a sock over their paw to protect it from debri. I put a soft cotton foam and a sock over it and he was fine. Oh, one more thing if you're going to put Neosporin or any other form of antibiotic ointment on your dog's paw watch them real good, because my vet said ingesting it can do more harm than their injury. She didn't recommend it.....
How do you care for a little scratch on a dog?
Well you need paper towel wet the paper towel and place it on the scratch and rub carefully then you need a dry paper towel and pat the scratch carefully then place a little bit of Neosporin and rub carefully and if it is a little runny then place a band-aid i hope this helps you . thanks
