How do dogs urinate multiple times on a single walk?
Dogs mark their territory by urinating in small amounts multiple times during a walk. This behavior allows them to leave their scent in different areas, communicating information to other dogs. It's a natural instinct for them to mark their territory and establish their presence in the environment they are exploring.
Why does your dog bring her food to you and then she will eat it.?
My dog did this when she didn't see me put her food down. When she saw that I gave it to her she was fine with it. I guess she was offering me (the top dog) the food first because she knew she was the under-dog and needed my permission to eat.
Yes it is! Max is the most popular dog name in the United States.(It's also a popular name for a cat, too!)Hope this helps you.Dominique, an 11 year old girl
Why do dogs roll in their food?
They may be eating their own or other dogs feces because of a nutritional reason. They may not be getting the nutrition they need from their diet so they eat the other animals feces as a way of getting the nutrients. Mother dogs eat pups' feces to avoid attracting predators. Puppies may do it as part of their exploration of the world, and the behavior can be reinforced by the attention it attracts.
What time in the year do dogs mostly shed fur?
Some shed all year long but spring is the worst time because they shed their winter coat.
They also shed vigorously in the Autumn to prepare for their winter coat. In the spring they shed their thicker winter coat to put on a thinner summer coat. In the fall the process is reversed, they get rid of their summer coat to put on a warmer winter coat.

Is Smokey a good name for a dog?
Giving a the name "smokey" to a dog is a decision you have to make. My say though is if you want to make your dogs' name smokey, then your dog should be a darkish color. But again, it is your decision!
Where can you find all the registered puppies to your dog?
If you got your dog at a breeder and are good breeders they should have the history of your dogs and what puppies of your dog were registered. If your dog is a Jack Russell Terrier (for instance) the the American Kennel Club for Jack Russel's should have this recorded (if you did have them recorded.) If you didn't do so and sold them then you are out of luck.
What happens when a dog breeds when not in heat?
When a female dog breeds when not in heat, there is a low chance of pregnancy since their reproductive system is not at the optimal stage for conception. Breeding outside of the heat cycle may result in unsuccessful mating, lower fertility rates, or no pregnancy at all. It is important to track the female's heat cycle to maximize the chances of successful breeding.

I charge $15 per walk in MA. It really depends on where you live and what the going rate/time is. In affluent communities it's more than blue collar or "normal" working class areas. Call around to other dog walkers and ask them what their rates are. It's called shopping the competition.
I wouldn't charge per hour.
You should charge for every walk, yes. That doesn't mean you shouldn't offer discounts for plans which involve purchasing more walks than 1 per day. For example you might offer a 10% discount for 2 walks per day. For your infrequent clients, you might consider offering them bulk plans where they purchase 10 walks at a time up front. For your regular weekly clients charge them a week in advance rather than per walk. Many walkers charge in arears, I do not, I learned charging ahead of time works much better in terms of getting paid in a timely fashion. You might also consider using recurrent credit card billing via PayPal.
Yes, it is not unreasonable to charge a surcharge for "out of control" dogs. If you are a capable trainer, you can offer retraining or behavior modification to your services.

Should you be feeding your dog soft food mixed with hard food while he is losing puppy teeth?
NO! A healthy dog shouldn't "need" soft food at any stage in life (from infant to senior). If you feel the need to offer softer foods, add a little hot water to his kibble and let it sit on the counter to cool. Mush it up with a fork, and you'll have a relatively soft food to offer. Don't leave it out though... moist food is a haven for bacteria. So once he's finished with it, toss any left overs. Sorry, but I disagree. Some hard foods can be concentrated so I have fed all my dogs mostly hard food, with a good brand of soft food (lots of veggies in it with exception of corn products or filtering organs.) Three of my dogs lived to be 18 - 20 years old and the dogs we have now are healthy and happy.
What is an average good walk out with a dog to provide him enough activity?
The amount of exercise and stimulation that your dog needs depends on othe ractivities throughout the day as well as his age, breed, diet and fitness level. For example, a three year old, healthy Siberian husky will require anywhere between 2 and 6 miles of running twice a day to stay in good condition. Where as a chihuahua will barely need to walk around the block.
How do you keep the hair around a white dog's eyes white?
I have a white Bichon Frise (female) and she gets that. I went to the pet store and purchased a bottle of something that was suppose to help the fur in that area stay white, but it simply didn't work. Now I use warm water and Epsom Salts (it is not like table salt and does not sting). Put two tablespoons into a small bowl, put A LITTLE boiling water to dissolve and then add tepid water (feel it just like you would check the heat of milk in a bottle for a baby.) Then I take a clean wash cloth and press on that area for a few minutes and towel it off. I may do it 2 - 3 times. There will still be a little there and I take a pair of small scissors, hold my dog by the chin and she seems to understand what I am going to do and is very good about it. I slowly cut the dark fur away without making her face look funny. Then rinse again with the solution.
I have a white poodle and use a product called Angel Eyes which comes in chicken and beef flavor and is added to the food. You can buy it at veterinarian supplies or even drug stores.
What is a good flea shampoo for small dogs?
Shampoos with oatmeal. Most good pet stores carry this product or you can go to any "Nature's Store" and get it. It calms the skin (many small dogs can have sensitive skin) and also makes the fur soft and easier to manage. Be sure to rinse well so no suds are left on the dog. If you have a white dog (I own a Bichon Frise) try staying away from fur whitening products (makes the hair whiter.) This will irritate the dogs skin and it simply isn't worth it. I like Adams Flea and Tick shampoo. I have yet to find a shampoo that is as good as adams. I have never heard of or experienced any dog having adverse skin reactions to it (like drying the skin out), but if dry skin is common in your breed, then i would suggest adding Fish Oil or Linatone to the dogs food. Answer by libelulaCedar oil not only will kill the fleas, but leaves a fragance on your dog that everybody will love. I found a shampoo also with base of cedar oil because cedar oil kills all kinds of arthropods (likes fleas, mites, lice) and it also will the hair of your dog shiny and clean. Find either a spray or shampoo with cedar oil over the internet.
Does the hair or fur of certain breeds of dogs keep them insulated and cool in the heat?
Yes. One of the BEST BREEDS are GREAT PYRENEES. they have 2 coats. one keeps them warm the other keeps them cool. However, like the next poster says temps for dogs and humans are different so you don't leave even a great Pyrenees out on 100 degree weather thinking it will stay cool.
AnswerThick coated dogs or long-haired dogs should have their fur thinned down (a groomer can do this.) Consider the fact you are wearing a fur coat during the summer months. There have been arguments about this subject, but the bottom line is that thick-coated to long-haired dogs do suffer from the heat. I own a Bichon Frise and they have fur like sheep. My dog gets so warm she will head straight for the river to cool off or, will lay on the marble hearth of the fireplace. I have my dog groomer sheer her like a sheep and she feels 100% better.Dogs temps are higher than humans so the owners must always be sure the dog is in a cool place (preferably inside your home where it is usually cooler) and never leave dogs in cars or tied up outside without shade and be sure they have lots of water. I change my dogs water at least 3 times a day during the summer and that includes my cat (all 3 are big water drinkers.)
AnswerAs the other poster said Great Pyrenees are a beautiful dog and since I go to the doggie beach I have seen several of these breeds. They are awesome! Good gentle character to them as well. I meant to add that dogs like the Great Pyrenees, Huskys, English Sheep dogs do need their coats (English Sheep dogs should never have the hair around their eyes cut) and all large long-haired and thick-coated dogs should be kept cool, but if the dogs are very hot then you can have the groomer thin their long hair down a little (not cut it short) as air needs to get to the skin. They heat up extremely quickly. What kind of dog should you get?
Well, if i would have to make that choice I would decide on a less destructive dog if the breed has any reputation and further on .... here are some of my advice:
Labrador
Cocker Spaniel
Pug
English Setter
Newfoundland (for one who likes giant breeds)
Beagle
However, it really depends what your home environment is. Some other factors to think about are how much space you have for a dog to exercise in, how often you'd be home to take care of it, grooming and feeding needs, and even things like how often you'd like to take to train your dog. There are quite a few websites out there to help pick a dog, too.
Yorkies Chihuahuas and most "toy" breeds are naturally feisty and can have serious aggression problems unless they are trained well.
Dogs such as Dobermans, Boxers, Rottweilers, Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute are not highly recommended for families or first-time owners. Guard dogs were bred for tough work and guarding owner's possessions and such have strong, independent wills and a true mind of their own.
I think a good dog breed to have is a boxer. Here is why:
The Boxer is happy, high-spirited, playful, curious and energetic. Highly intelligent, eager and quick to learn. The Boxer is a good dog for competitive obedience. Constantly on the move, bonding very closely with the family. Loyal and affectionate, Boxers are known for the way they get along so well with children. A well brought-up and properly socialized Boxer will also get along with his own kind and other household pets such as cats. Animals such as rodents, ducks, chickens and other farm birds may be too tempting, however, they can be taught to, "leave it" but it is still not reccomended they be left alone with them. It has been said that the name Boxer came from the way the Boxer likes to use is front paws for just about everything. If you have ever watched a Boxer go about his business you may have noticed the way he paws at his toys, food bowl and you for that matter, in a very playful cat-like way. While participating the sport of schutzhund, Boxers are known to jump up and use their front paws as if they are boxing. They are very clownish and playful. The Boxer's nature is to protect you, your family, and your home. Known visitors will be welcomed. They are always keen to work and play. Boxers need lots of human leadership. Teach the Boxer not to be boisterous and especially not to jump up at people. This breed is noted for courage and make great guard dogs. Boxers have a wide use in military and police work. An excellent watchdog, the Boxer will restrain an intruder in the same way a Bulldog does. They are extremely athletic, sometimes even in their old age. This dog needs to go on adaily pack walk. Daily mental and physical exercise is paramount. Without it, the Boxer will become high strung. This breed requires a dominant owner. Training should start young and be firm and consistent. The objective in training this dog is to achieve a pack leader status. It is a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in their pack. When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack. The entire pack cooperates under a single leader. Lines are clearly defined. You and all other humans MUST be higher up in the order than the dog. That is the only way your relationship can be a success. Meek Boxer owners will find their dogs to become stubborn. If they do not take you seriously they will be sneaky, demanding, boisterous and hard to control. Teach the Boxer dominating another dog is not acceptable. Any signs of dominance needs to be immediately corrected by the owners in a calm, but firm, confident way.
