Will an ectopic pregnancy show up on a regular pregnancy test?

In my case, I was two weeks late and I was still getting negative tests. I just knew I was pregnant though. After 3 weeks late I finally got a faint line. My hormone level should've been doubling every day, so I should've had a positive test after just a few days. (They say it'll test when the hormone is at 25 or more.)

When I finally got an appt. to see my OB, my numbers were only at 170, and I was 7 weeks pregnant. After watching the numbers go up and down 20 or so points over the next two weeks, I was sent for surgery.

If your numbers are so long that they aren't registering on a test even after a couple weeks, there may be a good chance. Also, I started spotting and did so from the time I got the positive test until a few days after surgery. (a couple weeks) Another good indication that things are not right.

hope this helps

Hey everyone I am 8 weeks pregnant and have these sharp stabbing pains in my lower right abdomen right above the hip I am so scared it's a ectopic pregnancy Help?

You should see your doctor immediately. He/she can test your blood for hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone that is produced by the developing fetus. Ectopic pregnancies produce much higher levels of this hormone than normal, intrauterine, pregnancies, and your doctor can use this as the first clue.

Additionally, most ectopic pregnancies of eight weeks can be detected using ultrasound. If the ectopic pregnancy itself is not detectable by this method, the presence or absence of a gestational sac in the uterus can be an additional clue.

The most important point, however, is not to panic, but to make an appointment to see your obstetrician as soon as possible.

Well you think im pregnant and you had your tubes tied?

A tubal pregnancy is a pregnancy in which the fertilized egg implants itself somewhere besides the uterine lining and the fetus cannot survive.

Can an ectopic pregnancy be successful?

The fallopian tube in which the embryo is located will burst when the growing embryo reaches a size which can no longer be contained. Parts of the patients will get the tubal blockage after the ectopic pregnancy treatment, so we would ask if it has a direct relationship with the ectopic pregnancy. If you have problems with tubal blockage, fuyan pill may help.

How do people become pregnant?

To put it in very simple terms. Pregnancy is the result of an Ovum or eg that is released by the woman once a month being fertilized by sperm which is produced by a man getting together. That is when the sperm of the man enters the ovum of the woman they begin to multiply. the woman's uterus is built in such a way as to give the fertilized egg a place to settle down and develop getting sustainance from the mother. the sperm of the man is introduced by the mans errect penis being pushed up the woman's vagina. after a period of movement stimulating the penis the male wil have an orgasm leading to an ejaculation of sperm bearing semen. there are many millions of sperm released only 1 of which is required to fertilize the ovum.

Can you have a normal birth after ectopic pregnancy?

Yes it is possible to have an ectopic pregnancy and have a negative pregnancy test, it is also possible to have a healthy pregnancy and have a positive pregnancy test in the first 10 days after a missed period.

Pregnancy test kits are each calibrated to different levels of sensitivity and you have to ensure you are using a quality test, which is calibrated to detect reliably levels of hCG (the hormone, made in pregnancy.)

How diurnal rhythms affect blood results?

Fluctuations in an individual's blood pressure are normal during the course of a day. When one awakens, the blood pressure is lower as a result of the decreased metabolism and physical activity during sleep. As metabolism and activity increases during the day, the blood pressure rises.

When can you drive after keyhole surgery to remove ectopic pregnancy and one tube?

I recently had surgery, and I was able to drive about a week later. (I probably could have done it sooner, but you will probably be on pain meds which interfere with your ability to drive). As long as you can handle the pain of sitting up as your stomach muscles heal, you can drive. I would say that without meds you could drive within a day or two.

How soon can pregnancy be determined?

A Blood test can detect a pregnancy as early as 7-12 days from conception, so a woman may not have even missed her period yet. The test is looking for the hormone HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) which is produced by the placenta of a pregnant woman.

Is it safe if you had an ectopic pregnancy and a tube removed but a month later you think you are pregnant again?

Yes.

Both ovaries still ovulate and you still have one tube.

Based on the pictures in the books of a nice T shaped uterus and tubes one might think that fertility would be reduced by half after an ectopic pregnancy. In reality, things are not that neat and the ovaries are usually closer together than depicted so the egg from one ovary can go down the other tube. As a result the fertility rate after losing one tube only drops to 70% of normal (rather than 50%).

Is it possible to have a ectopic pregnancy with twins?

Certainly! An ectopic pregnancy is not a condition that affects your reproductive organs such as endometriosis. It also has no affect on the number of future embyo's. You have a 1 in 2 chance of conception if you had no problems prior to your ectopic pregnancy. About 60% conceive successfully after an ectopic pregnancy and about 30% choose not to try conceiving again. If you do conceive successfully after having an ectopic pregnancy, it is important to notify your doctor at the first visit of this so that he/she can pay special attention to any warning signs and help you and your baby have a successful future pregnancy.

Can you have a period with an ectopic pregnancy?

Yes you can. I did and I didnt find out until I got pregnant again the following month. I had a very normal period and a normal cycle and ovulated on on CD 14 (with an ectopic in progress without my acknowledgment at the time). I ended up taking a HPT at 8DPO and got a VERY dark BFP so I went and got my blood work done that day. My beta results came back 1500!! Well at 14DPO my tube burst due to the ectopic pregnancy that I never knew I had which almost killed me in the process. About a week later they found another baby in my uterus when doing an ultrasound after my beta numbers were not going down but doubling instead. The doctor told me that I must of gotten pregnant back to back because the Ectopic was about 8wks along (they did lab testing on the remainders) and the pregnancy I was carrying in my uterus was only 4wks when my tube ruptured. Unfortunetly I ended up losing the baby in my uterus too, at 12wks. I am also pregnant again but the doctor suspects its another ectopic which I am very concerned about, since this is my only tube left. My beta levels have not been doubling as they should and I have been having some discomfort on that one side, not to mention spotting early on that lingered around for awhile. I never knew trying to have a baby would be so difficult, but it is, it is for me and many other couples out there. I've been trying to conceive my first for 3yrs now.

Is it difficult to get pregnant again after having an ectopic pregnancy?

your question was not very specific, if both fallopian tubes are removed, you might want to try invitro fertilization. your egg and your spouse's sperm can be incubated, then implanted into you, and you will be able to carry the baby as long as you have your uterus. Hopes this helps.

Will a home pregnancy test detect a ectopic pregnancy?

Yes, it will.

I don't know who wrote that it will.... ^

". Ectopic pregnancies don't always register on http://wiki.answers.com/0_home-pregnancy-tests_2029.bc, so if you suspect there's a problem, don't wait for a positive pregnancy test to contact your caregiver."

source: babycenter.com

you could have an ectopic pregnancy and the test won't pick it up because your hormones aren't rising like they should so the at home test wont pick anything up..

(I don't understand why people put answers when they don't know everything. I'm not a doctor or anything, but you can find out true facts on real credited resources... so at least research something before you go and write your opinion.)

What is an ectopic pregancy?

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the baby starts to develop outside the womb (uterus). The most common site for an ectopic pregnancy is within one of the tubes through which the egg passes from the ovary to the uterus (fallopian tube). However, in rare cases, ectopic pregnancies can occur in the ovary, stomach area, or cervix.

An ectopic pregnancy is usually caused by a condition that blocks or slows the movement of a fertilized egg through the fallopian tube to the uterus. This may be caused by a physical blockage in the tube.

Symptoms of Ectopic Pregnancy

  • Pain in the lower abdomen, and inflammation
  • Pain while urinating
  • Pain while having a bowel movement
  • External bleeding is due to the falling progesterone levels.

Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilised egg implants itself within one of the fallopian tubes rather than within the uterus, as the embryo grows it outgrows the small space of the fallopian tube and if not caught soon enough this can prove fatal.

Is it possible to have a 5 month ectopic pregnancy?

Hello Yes, I am afraid that there is - I have just been through this. I had a 'normal' first 11 weeks of pregnancy with no bleeding or stomach pains - I did have sickness but I thought this was normal pregnancy morning sickness. At 10.5 weeks I suddenly got some bleeding (light) and stomach pains like period pains. I had a scan 2 days later and they discovered - after some investigation - that it was ectopic although I had not had the typical symptoms. I had a laproscopy when I was excately 11 weeks. I don't think my story is typical but it can happen. Julie L. Oxford.

How long does it take for a tube to burst in case of ectopic?

I had a 12 week ectopic pregnancy in '04. I had been experiencing pain for 4 weeks prior, saw 3 doctors who blamed my pain on GI issuess, etc. I finally went to my parents geriatric doctor who did a pelvic and sent me for ultrasound. I was sent immediately to the ER from the ultrasound for a ruptured ectopic. Rupture time varies from woman to woman but I was told that I was very lucky to be alive considering the shape I was in and how long I had been experiencing the pain. I lost the right tube and ovary but went on to become pregnant again in 07. The pregnancy only lasted 25 weeks due to incompetant cervix but the baby is fine and now I'm DONE with pregnancy for good! ;p I'm not tempting fate anymore.

Can you get a negative pregnancy test your entire pregnancy?

It is possible but not likely. There could be a few possibilities. It was not a very accurate test. You did not do it right. Or it could be a little to early for the particular test you took, and the hormones are not in your urine. A store bought pregnancy test will not defintely tell you if you are pregnant in the early months only a trained professional can.

When does your stomach begin to show signs of pregnancy?

It's different for everyone. For me it was in mt fourth month I started to show. Most women can tell themselves by about 14-15 weeks but it may be another few weeks before other people notice, particularly if you have very good muscle tone, or have a fat layer covering the area.
