What is teacher immediacy?

Teacher immediacy is the term used to describe communication behaviors that reduce the perceived distance between teacher and students. By definition, immediacy behaviors convey teacher warmth, communicate positive relational affect, signal approach and availability for communication, and create increased physiological arousal in receivers. Introduced in research based on her dissertation, J. Andersen (1979) identified teacher immediacy as a nonverbal construct and sought ways to measure the impact of teacher immediacy on instructional outcomes. Now, with the accumulation of nearly three decades of research on teacher immediacy, the substantial influences of teacher immediacy in creating positive instructional outcomes are well understood ( Witt et al. 2004 ). The construct of teacher immediacy was theoretically grounded in → Interpersonal Communication research on immediacy, interpersonal warmth, and intimacy (→ Intimate Talk with Family and Friends ). A parallel body of literature has developed detailed theoretical models that explain the processes of intimacy exchange and describe how the immediacy behaviors function in close relationships ( P. Andersen et al. 2006 ; → Relationship Development ).

How do you get an unfit teacher fired?

If by unfit, you mean like saying stuff that teachers aren't supposed to say- or incorrect language like yall's- or demonstrating what a student did by sticking up her/middle finger-or cussing during class- to students- and teachers- try getting your teacher so irritated that she'll/he'll want to leave- then make them do something they'll regret for evidence- tell the principle- or write a letter to the school board- or write a ressignation letter from that teacher to the school board and the principle. And before she/he leaves, say, "screw you. And I hate you! Goodbye!"

hope that works!:) :) <3 <3

Do bells dismiss students at the end of class?

No, for those schools that use a bell system. The sounding of bells only signal the end of classes. Teachers dismiss students at the end of classes. Some teachers may enter a tacit or even stated agreement with students that they may leave when the bell sounds, but final authority in every classroom belongs to the teacher.

How many days do teachers get off?

The average school year consists in the US of 180 days. Different districts break this down in different ways to come up with their own school calendars.

Using this average, there are 365 (approximately) days in a year. There are roughly 104 Saturdays and Sundays (weekends--no school days), leaving 261 possible days for school (not counting legal holidays of which there are about six), leaving 255 possible school days. Wait, forgot the break between Christmas and New Years, Thanksgiving (the Friday following), and midwinter break (call that three school weeks or 15 days), leaving 240 days.

Now, 180 from 240 leaves 60 days, roughly three months (60 five day weeks = 12 weeks).

Most districts require that teachers be available for a week or more at the end of the school year and report a week or more at the beginning of the school year, so 60 turns into 50 (ten weeks, or two and a half months).

In that 50 days, most teachers schedule the continuing education they must perform (college classes) to maintain their teaching certificate. This isn't usually enough time, and often the classes they need are not available during this "down" time, so they also take classes during the school year. All told then, most teachers really get no time off. That is until it all becomes too much, they catch a cold from one of the little darlings in their classroom, and have to call in a substitute for a couple days.

No one goes into teaching for the money or the time off. Those who do typically get a very rude wake-up call.

Most subs make about 60.00 to 95.00 a day teaching. It depends on the school district and varies from state to state.

Why are the teachers in schools so afraid of the gangsta type students they teach?

* I'm a teacher and I'm not afraid of the "gansta"-type kids. They are kids. Some of them try to be big and bad and it is usually because someone has hurt them bad and they figure adults don't get respect until they earn it. I spent 12 years teaching and always loved my hoods and many of them still keep in touch. Lots are no longer hoods and even they think those days are nuts.

There are a lot of teachers, though, that are afraid. Just like anyone or anything else, it is different than what they know. If we talked that way to parents, we would have been in so much trouble. The lack of authority is something hard to deal with if the teachers don't take the time to see that the kids, for the most part, are just looking for someone to care. I know a few teachers, I'm sorry to say, who think that "those kids" should just be kicked out and they treat them horribly. They shouldn't be teachers at all.

I think all kids need to remember, though, that school is a place for kids to be safe and for some kids they aren't safe any place else at all. If all a teacher can do is spend their time getting kids quiet, when do you have time to get to the good stuff that can make a difference. If you are one of those "gansta" kids, give your teacher a break some time and see if it changes. * Everyone is afraid of violent people. "Gangsta" types are usually angry and looking for an excuse to fight someone. People like that are scary, and teachers are right to be nervous. Also, teenagers have less self-control than adults, so they are less likely to stop and think before they lose their temper and attack someone; this is why there are so many "gangstas" in jail. Gang members encourage each other to be violent, and have been involved in many gun battles where innocent people were killed as the gangsters shot it out. Teenagers often join a gang to try to feel that they are part of a group. A gang, however, is not a healthy kind of group, but a violent and criminal way of life that is usually hard to escape. These things make non-violent people worried, and sensible people do watch out for "gangstas."

What are conversation about English teacher between two friends?

Writing dialogue is not as hard as you're letting it seem. You have dialogue all the time -- it's called talking. If you honestly cannot think of what your characters are going to say to one another, you need to go take a break and go somewhere out in public. Sit somewhere in the middle of a crowd for one to two hours and just listen to people talking. Then, go home and write down some of the things you heard people saying. That's dialogue.

When you need to have your characters talk, just pretend it's you and a friend (or several friends), and have them say something you'd probably say in the same situation. What do you think about the importance of English? Then imagine what your friends would say in reply, and go back and forth that way. As you become a better writer, your characters themselves will "tell" you what they want to say, because they become like real people to you.

What should you do if a teacher takes your phone?

You do not have many choices. If your teacher sees your phone while you are taking a test, the teacher is probably going to assume you are cheating. If you are cheating, simply take whatever consequences your teacher has for it. You could try to talk your way out of it, but it would probably make the situation worse for you. If you truly were not cheating, then you could attempt to explain that to your teacher, but there would most likely be some consequences for having your phone out at all, especially during a test.
