Why is Elvis Presley still talked about?

Elvis, the king of rock and roll, was amongst the first stars of modern music in the 1950s. He was perhaps the first superstar of the new age of entertaiment. Elvis Presley had a unique singing voice, and was capable of entertaining (sublimely!) with that alone. Couple his gift of voice and style of music with his entry into entertainment at a unique time and place and possibilities abound. Perhaps with a bit of luck, but with enormous talent, character and charisma, he became the superstar and legend he is recognized as being, as cited in the first post.

What is Elvis?

He was known as the king of rock and roll because he invented the style of music.

Well, I'm not sure I'd use the word "Invented" here. Elvis Presley was a famous and very popular singer from the mid 50s until the era of the Beatles, and then in the latter 60s he made a bit of a comeback. He died in 1977 of a drug overdose/heart attack.

Presley was one of the first white singers to sing in what was called 'colored' style, or "race music", as they called it back then - in other words, he sounded black when he sang. He was from Tupelo, Mississippi, and was no doubt influenced by black jazz, rhythm & blues, and gospel music of his day.

He became a huge star and had, or I should say, still has, a huge, fanatical following all over the world. He made a dozen or so movies in the early 60s that also helped him become a movie star as well.

He was 'managed', if not completely controlled, by a publicity agent/manager named "Colonel Parker". Parker managed nearly every facet of Presley's public life - even down to selecting the songs he would record.

One unique thing about Presley is that he never wrote any songs or music himself - he always sang other people's songs.

The era of the Beatles and the British Invasion had a chilling effect on his career - and he was often publicly derogatory about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other groups he blamed for his 'fall-off'. He did make a bit of a comeback after a TV special in 1968 but the magic had gone - plus, his original fans were now 15 years older than they were when he first came out.

In his later years, he became a bit of recluse, gaining a lot of weight and suffering from depression and bouts of drug and pain-killer dependency. He died in 1977 in his Memphis mansion, Graceland.

Is Elvis in heaven?

Is Elvis in Heaven? What about Princess Diana? What about John F. Kennedy Jr., Heath Ledger, Roy Rogers, Mother Teresa, and Death Row murderer Karla Faye Tucker, who was executed in Texas in February 1998? According to the Bible, those who repent of their sins and receive Jesus Christ into their lives as Lord and Savior will be saved from eternal punishment in Hell when they die. The Bible makes no distinction between the famous and the unknown, the rich and the poor, the altruistic hero and the repentant murderer. You just have to be born again. It is not for us to judge the hearts of others. But there is an indication that Karla Faye Tucker gave her life to Christ before she died, while there is no indication that Adolf Hitler did. There is an indication that Roy Rogers and the Wright brothers did, but not that Joseph Stalin or Karl Marx did. But we cannot be certain. How do people become "saved" Christians? A widely distributed evangelical tract says the following is what the Bible requires. # Admit that you are a sinner.

The Bible says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). # Know that God has already provided for your salvation.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). # Know that you cannot save yourself.

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy he saved us" (Titus 3:5). # Deplore and turn from your sins.

"Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3). # Ask Jesus Christ to save you.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13) and "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). # Confess Jesus before others.

"If thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9, 10). Have you asked Christ to save you? If not, you can receive Him as your Savior right NOW by saying and meaning a prayer to God the Father like the following one. "Dear Father in Heaven, I know that I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Savior. I am willing, by God's grace, to follow and obey Christ as the Lord of my life." Get a Bible and read it every day to get to know Christ better. * Talk to God in prayer every day. * Tell others about Christ. * Be baptized. Worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a Bible-believing church where Christ is preached. The Bible makes it clear that anyone can get into Heaven if they receive Jesus as Savior. Being famous doesn't help you or exclude you. Neither does being unknown. Being rich doesn't stop you, and neither does being the poorest person in the world. What gets you into Heaven is having God wash your sins away in your relationship with Jesus Christ.

WOW...tough question.

Due to the combination of factors (i.e. Elvis returning to live performing after 8 years away, being happy in his personal and professional life, being blessed with having a healthy baby girl and being married the year before, being in good health, feeling energized, and his love/respect/support for his fellow man, etc.) I would say it would be the song that closed the 1968 Singer Special entitled "Elvis" being the classic and incomparable song entitled: "IF I CAN DREAM".

Elvis, lying in his casket, was "set up" in the foyer area of Graceland and over 30,000 fans were allowed in (with another 50,000 outside the gates of Graceland) to pay their respects.

Funeral services were held at Graceland with a large progression of 16 white Cadillac's, and the hearse carrying Elvis' body, with a police escort going from Graceland to Forest Hill Cemetery. This is the same cometary where his beloved Mother (Gladys Love Presley) was buried.
