Can the drug baytril be used to treat a cat cold?

Yes, Baytril can be used to treat illnesses in cats {depending on what kind of illness it is} However, I would suggest not using any kind of drug on any animal unless you have first consulted a vet.. different medications are used for different things and in different amounts... So what may be ok for one animal may be harmful to another.... please do not self medicate any animal unless you have been directed to do so by a vet.... You may have the best of intentions.... But you could actually do more harm than good if you do not know what you are doing..... hope this helps Good Luck!!!!!!!!! Kechara {I forgot to login before answering this one silly me} Kechera us right, but I wanted to add, you are not a vet so don't self diagnose. You cat could be suffering from something entirely different. See your vet before administering any medications to your pet. Good luck Marcy

What can happen if you leave a patient having a grand mal seizure un-attended?

I have Grand Mal myself so I know many things can happen, but nothing special :-)

Seizures do not hurt you directly, you can of course get hurt in many ways, like falling and bang your head in the floor or bite yourself (that's pretty common, I've gotten used to it, and have a couple of tricks), but seizures in them selves do not hurt or damage you in any way directly ;-)

Is hyperacusis and epilepsy connected?

No, there is not any connection. Hyperacusis is related to people's response to sounds, so it related to aspects of hearing. Epilepsy is the tendency to having recurring seizures.

What Life-Preserver should I get for a child under my care who has epilepsy?

My favorites are water skiiing vests. They fit well, stay out of the way, don't age the way standard vests do, maintain an unconscious subject's head in an upright position, and don't ride up over the head. If you get one, try it in a pool first, and take some time adjusting it so the fit is perfect. Test to make sure it floats the subject face up (they're all made to do that but it depends on fit too).

Does epilepsy affect certain groups more than others?

Not especially. Anyone can have it. About 1 in every 200 people do. Epilepsy is classified as someone having recurring seizures. Absolutely anyone can have a seizure in their lifetime and not ever have one again. There are many forms of epilepsy and many causes, making it possible to happen to anybody. It is because there are so many causes and forms that one overall label is used to cover them all, which is epilepsy.

What is the cause of froths in epilepsy?

This is one of the stereotypes of epilepsy. Very few people who have epilepsy ever froth at the mouth during a seizure. During a seizure someone could be opening and closing their mouth and generating but not swallowing saliva and so result in a slight increase in the amount of saliva and some coming out and so an appearance of frothing, but this very rarely happens.

Can THC cure epilepsy?

Can Chiari malformation cause epilepsy?

Chiari Malformation is a structural abnormality of the brain resulting in the lower portion of the brain herniating out of the skull (measured in millimeters). Any time a structural defect within the skull occurs there is a risk that brain activity can be altered. The type of seizure experienced depends on the area of the brain affected by the malformation. Since Chiari affects the cerebellum many symptoms that mimic seizure activity can occur such as: intense headache, sudden loss of muscle strength resulting in an immediate fall (drop attack), numbness, confusion, weakness, fainting, altered perceptions, ringing in the ears, difficulty swallowing, gagging, and tremors. Some symptoms occur together in "episodes" while others appear as chronic or persistent. If the herniation is significant it is possible for CSF flow to become partially blocked and further increase symptoms.

What is the most potent drug that can cure epilepsy permanently?

There is no real answer for that question. Epilepsy is a wide ranging condition which has many causes. For treating epilepsy, it is often a case of dealing with the cause rather than dealing with the epilepsy itself. So there are many different drugs that can be used to treat each individual. Many people with epilepsy are on a combination of drugs. Epilepsy is normally controlled rather than cured. When it comes to treatment what works for one person may not work for someone else.

Some people will stop having seizures for various reasons. People can have surgery, but this is only done in extreme circumstances due to the risks involved, so it is not an option for the majority of people. A head injury can cause epilepsy, like someone having been involved in an accident. As they recover, their epilepsy may go. Children often have epilepsy, but for some as they grow older, their epilepsy will clear up. Some have their epilepsy controlled by drugs, but while they may not be having seizures, they are not cured. If they stopped their medication their seizures could start again. So due to the many forms and causes of epilepsy and it being a case of controlling rather than curing, there is no one drug that can be said to cure epilepsy permanently.

I am doing a walk for epilepsy next month and my team needs a TEAM NAME any ideas?

Given that people who have Epilepsy get seizures and that you want to promote a positive aspect, consider something like:

Seize Your Life.

Seize Your Chance.

Seize your Opportunity.

Some sort of play on words around "Seizure" and "Seize Your" could work. As a name they may not be ideal, but perhaps as a sub-title or catchphrase for your team. Something like "Headstrong" could work too.

If the doctor says you have very little brain activity how do you have seizures?

There is constant electrical activity in everyone's brain at all times. When a seizure happens it is because there is a sudden increase in electrical activity, like a storm or power surge. That soon passes and electrical activity returns to normal and the seizure ends. So if when someone with epilepsy is examined at a time they are not having a seizure, then their brain's electrical activity will appear to be normal.

To test for epilepsy what is sometimes done is to expose the brain to known triggers for seizures to see if there is a change in the electrical activity so that doctors can find out what causes an particular person to have seizures. Different people will have different causes for their seizures. So if the right trigger is not used during an examination, the person will still have normal brain activity. That does not mean that they don't have epilepsy and won't get seizures. It just may mean that their particular trigger wasn't one of those that were tried on them. As there are many of them, it is not possible to test for them all in one examination.
