Here is some info about the blood test. There is TWO pregnancy blood tests; both have similar names. 1) The Qualiative pregnancy hcg blood test is very similar to a urine pregnancy test. This blood tests works by giving a yes or no answer, instead of measuring the amount of HCG in your blood. For example if you have 50u of HCG in your blood & it will only recognize a positive result at 52U then you will get a negative result. This is ridiculous & especially awful when diagnosing early pregnancy. Especially when you bear in mind that 5U = pregnant. 2) The Quantitative beta hcg blod test is HIGHLY accurate. This test works by measuring the exact amount of HCG in your blood. You need to always write down the name of this blood test & ask your Doctor specifically for it. Always make sure your Doctor has order this blood test & NOT the qualiative.

The lab tests are more reliable then the HPT but if you are insecure you can always take the bloodtest.

I took a hpt & is was very faintly pos. I went to my doc. that same day & there urine test was neg. I came home I took 13 more hpt's & all pos. Some were faint in the beginning but every 2 days the line got darker. I am now 9 weeks pregnant & have already seen the baby on ultrasound. The doctors urine test was wrong.

Superdrug is a more sensitive test (10miu) meaning it can detect lower levels of hormones (early pregnancy). Clearblue is more like 25miu, meaning you would have to have higher hormone levels (later pregnancy) before it picked it up.

You should go to your doctor and have them do a blood HCG test. It will show positive before a urine test would.

Also the drug is a diuretic, which pulls fluid from the body, thus diluting the urine. Since a pregnancy test relies on the presence of hormones in the urine to indicate positive of negative, use of a diuretic may cause a false negative rather than a false positive. If you think you may be pregnant, and you take a diuretic on a routine basis, I would encourage you to see your doctor soon. The use of any medication, especially those taken on a daily basis, should be okayed by a physician familiar with you and your prescriptions. Maybe your home pregnancy test is not accurate. It is thought that about 40% of pregnancies are 'lost' with the first period. Until the last few years there was no way of knowing you were pregnant before missing a period so this did not happen.
