I've burnt lilac. It's a very hard and very dense wood that burns well and very slowly but needs to be well seasoned. As it usually comes from a small tree, the diameter should be relatively small so it shouldn't take an age to dry out. The stuff I burnt had been drying for several years, so how long it takes before you can burn it I couldn't actually say but I'd guess 6 - 9 months.
Can pine-wood be used in a fireplace?
Pine can be used but it doesn't burn clean. It contains large amounts of tars and over time will leave a heavy creosote buildup. It is a good burning wood though. I have used it many times. It also tends to "pop" explode so be sure to have a safety screen to keep the embers from flying on you or your floor.

Why is cold air leaking from the vent over the stove in a one story home?
Most homes, whether one or multistory leak air year round. This is most notable during the winter season as warm air rises it tends to find an escape (through the attic by way of passage via electrical wiring outlets and via plumbing passages within the interior walls). As the warm air seeks a path to rise, cold air will seek to enter your home to replace the lost warm air.
Some of this air exchange can be eliminated by seeking out the locations that allow the warm air to escape and by blocking passage. Use a can of expanding foam insulation to block the air exchange behind wall outlets. Stuff fiberglass insulation in larger spaces around plumbing and consider adding wallboard where necessary to close these large spaces.
You can also close up the oven vent but I do not recommend this except you are able to easily open the vent when necessary. Other locations that often leak air include the bathroom ceiling vent. It is important to allow the bath vents to work and the kitchen vent to work as it is in these rooms that warm and moist air arises. Please do not trap this damp air inside your home. Damp air should be allowed to leave your home as a very unwelcome visitor. Trapping damp air within your home will result in the creation of an ideal climate for some very bad, toxic molds to grow.

Will heat from your gas log fireplace damage an LCD flat screen hung over the mantle?
If the heat from your fireplace is being blown forward, then it shouldn't hurt your TV.
There are different temperatures at different parts of the fire. The hottest temperature in most wood fires are found in the red embers after the fire has been going for awhile. These temperatures are from 1200 degrees to 1500 degrees. However, since so much air is circulating around the fire, grates and other nearby object rarely exceed 1000 degrees.
The gas fire probably burns at a lower temperature, with the grate also being the hottest part…around 1000 degrees. This is evident because the grates sometimes glow…and iron glows at approx 1000-1100 degrees F.
The flue in both cases is usually quite cool, because of the air mixture. In colonial times, some flues were built from WOOD with a mud pack on the inside…. chances are that the normal flue temperature for such an open fire fall in the 250-400 degree range
