Will Epsom salts on a compress draw out infection?
Epsom salts, like most salts, has the effect of being a desiccant, or water absorber. When the Epsom is dissolved in water, the salinity of the water increases. And when it exceeds the salinity of the bacterium, it will osmotically draw water out of the bacterium, thus desiccating it. As such, this makes a slightly undesirable habitat for the bacteria. Epsom salts won't actually draw out infection, nor is it a very good antiseptic.
Does betadine hurt when uses on an open wound?
It depends. It certainly can sting if the cut is large. If you are using it on a deep cut, you should consult your doctor first.
What is the first aid when choking on one's saliva?
Most healthy people can swallow their own saliva, so not being able to do so is indicative of a serious neurological insult, that should be taken into consideration.
That said, first aid for choking on one's own saliva is suctioning the saliva out. If you don't have suction with you, and there's no other injury that precludes this, roll them into Rescue Position to the head faces to the side and the mouth faces down. Swab excess saliva from the throat, being careful not to trigger the gag reflex.

Why do your fingers and toes get pruned in water?
Your skin carries an oil on its surface that keeps it from wrinkling. The oil can replenish. However, spending too much time in the water can wash the oil away and the skin is susceptible to being pruned.
...However, that is not supported by the evidence. People who's nerves are severed do not experience "pruning" in water, disproving popular myth that water absorption is a factor.
It appears to be an involuntary "choice" by the body in reaction to water. Perhaps to improve "grip" during wet conditions.
The scalp is anywhere on your head. A contusion is merely a bruise. A bruise means some force broke capillaries right under the skin. The slight bit of bleeding leeks into the tissue, causing a "bruise". A scalp contusion is no different than having a bruise on your shin.

Can you go blind from pinkeye?
"Pink Eye" is the name we apply in America to an infection casued by the Hemophilus aegyptius bacterium that attacks the conjuctiva -- the mucous membrane that covers the eye and the inside of the eyelid. As with any infection, tissue damage can occur. And if tissue damage can occur, so can scarring. While not a common result, various degrees of blindness can indeed result. This particular infection is super-contagious, so it's critcally important you (a) treat it and (b) make certain you don't transfer it to others. This means lots and lots of thorough hand washing, not sharing pillows, etc. This one you can't fix at home. There are a few reasons for this. First, bacterial pink-eye is treated with an antibiotic cream or ointment (often Cipro-based, but others work too), which you can't get without a prescription. Another reason is, while I've described Pink Eye, allergies are sometimes diagnosed as Pink-Eye, and the treatment for them (anti-inflamatories and possibly steroids) may actually exacerbate or make worse a bacterial infection.
Lay out the triangular bandage, opened up, on a flat surface. There is 1 long side, and 2 shorter sides of the bandage (triangle). Where the 2 shorter sides meet, at the point, grab the point and tie a knot at the point end. When you fold the bandage in half, like it would be on a person, where you tied the knot will be the pocket for the elbow.
The knot is tied at the large angle corner of the bandage a few inches forward.
Why is it important to know the basics in giving first aid?
Usually, people don't sense the need for first-aids knowledge until founding their dear ones passing away in front of them while outstanding useless regarding the situation.
Regrets arise when realizing that this person could have still be alive, if someone present have a little knowledge of first-aids
The significance of First-Aids is that we can be a help to ourselves or others, especially people we love that may be injured.
In brief, if you are a first-aider you are apt to: Preserve a Life, Prevent further Harm or prevent a condition from worsening and Promote recovery.
So then, if any one tripes or hurts themselfs and noone is near that will help, you can help a little cause you will now what to do!! : )
You're unable to stop severe bleeding through direct pressure what is your next step?
To stop severe bleeding of the arm, you should apply pressure on the brachial artery of the arm. This will reduce the flow of blood.
Alternatively, a Combat Action Tourniquet may be applied to stop bleeding.
Conclusion of project on first aid?
As the concluding part of this project, I would like to say that--
"Without proper action at proper time ,danger awaits us with a bigger face."
We must act on time when a person is injured. We must take care of person the way it is meant. otherwise,a valuable life might be lost .We need to understand how precious lives of people are and what importance first-aid carries in saving these precious lives.
If this project imparts this idea in even one person, I would think that the project has been successful.
What happens if you spit out blood and it comes out of mouth?
A small amount can potentially carry diseases (Hepatitis, HIV, etc.) If it is your own blood, you're fine. Depending on the person, a cup or so of blood in your stomach can give you a stomach ache and possibly nausea.
Why does a cut on your skin need to be protected against infection?
Skin is the bodies first line of defense. The different layers of skin literally block bacteria like a forcefield. Bacteria lives on our skin because it cant get in. When the skin is broken, or germs find a way in through the mouth, nose etc, we get sick. If we had no skin, we would get so sick so fast, the we would not live. That is why 3rd degree burn patients need to be put in a sterile room sometimes.
The top layer (dead epidermis) sheds off the skin every moment, taking all the bacteria with it. This keeps them from staying on too long.
Without skin you could not process waste and your organs/ blood would go everywhere, killing you. If that didn't do it first, millions of bacteria would finish you off in about an hour.

What is the first aid procedure for severe bleeding?
The first course of action should be to place pressure on the bleeding to slow or stop it. Make sure emergency medical services have been summoned and continue to provide pressure on the wound until they arrive. If you cannot apply pressure to a wound because of a foreign object (i.e. a piece of glass), apply pressure just above and just below the wound (but still cover the wound area with gauze).
Pressure points to stop bleeding?
For pressure point bleeding control, you should put direct pressure on a pressure point, an area where blood vessels run close to the surface, usually at a point where a pulse can be found.
Common pressure points:

What are the signs of choking?
The universal sign is someone who has their hands at their throats. Other signs are an inability to breath or make sounds because the windpipe is blocked off. Or there may be some wheezing sounds because the windpipe is partially blocked.
How long do you apply pressure to a wound to stop bleeding?
That all depends on the person and the depth of the cut, where the cut is etc...
If it is severe, on a vein, bleeding profusely, go to the doctor or call 911 immediately.
If it's a little cut that is just pestering, try pouring white sugar on it. The sugar does NOT burn at all, you won't feel it. The sugar will help to clot the cut. It will soak up the blood and create a makeshift scab until the blood will clot on it's own. Don't peel it off, wash it clean with warm water and antibacterial soap after at least an hour.
