How do you get a nail polish remover stain off of cork flooring?

Despite the first answer, it may be worth trying to remove it with acetone. You would carefully remove each spot using small amounts of acetone. Then, when finished with all spots, replace the sealant that is used for the floor.

Well... You can't. Your cork flooring is ruined, and can't get restored. Call a flooring store and get them to go over to replace it. You can try to steam clean it, chances of getting it out are slim.

What can you use to stick down carpet tiles?

Carpet tiles are moderatly high tech flooring, the install instructions are available from the manufacturer & that will include the allowable & recommended adhesives.

Without any specifics, I can tell you that almost all recommend a "Pressure sensitive" adhesive, rolled on with a paint roller & allowed to dry to the touch before putting the tiles in place.

Look in the yellow pages for "carpet installation supply" store & ask them for a price & spread rate. Expect to pay 30-100 per gallon for this wonder goo. It isn't cheap but it goes on thin.

The parquet floor in your kitchen is swelling or bulging Why?

Most likely from moisture. If you are mopping the floor, steam cleaning it, or using any kind of water (even a little) it can swell the joints.

It also could be from moisture in a cement slab if its on one.

How much 16 x 16 tile is need to cover 324 square feet?

The concept is confusing but the math is pretty simple...

  • Tiles are sold by the square foot not by the tile..
  • Measure the room & round up to the next foot, ie.. 11' 6" just write it down as 12'
  • If the room has offsets or halls, just remember to treat it like another room & do the length X width of each area. Then add them all up.
  • Box will tell you how many sq feet is in a box, so you are paying by the foot, but buying by the box........
  • Each 16X16 tile is 1.778 sq feet
  • 16X16 tile will likely be packaged in a box with 9-11 pieces per box..
  • Usually about 14- 18 sq feet per box depending on the makers preferences...
  • By way of example if your room is 12X12 that's 144 sq feet,
  • Divide the sq feet by how many sq feet in the box & you know how many boxes..
  • Add about 7-10% to make sure you have enough....

The formula is 324 divided by 1.78= # of tiles

Soooo once you know the sq feet you need, add a little for waste & breakage & ooops cuts & you will have enough..

The fact that a good tile setter starts in the middle of the room & works out also means you may have a fair bit of cutting one all the walls but a centered look is much better and likely allows you to use the pieces up.

  • THE FORMULA IS : area divided by sq ft per tile ie 225 sq feet of 18X18 tiles would take 10 tiles....
  • 12X12 is DUH 1 sq foot
  • 13X13 is 1.174
  • 18X18 tiles are 2.25 sq ft per tile
  • 20"x20" tiles are 2.778 per tile
  • 24X24 tiles are 4 sq ft per tile

Soooo once you know the sq feet you need, add a little for waste & breakage & ooops cuts & you will have enough..

How thick is the layer of thin-set mortar used with ceramic tile?

It depends on the size of the tile. Use a smaller 5/32" V-Notch Trowel for 3/4" or smaller glass mosaics, a 1/4" x 1/4" trowel for 2" x 2" mosaic tiles. For bigger 12" x 12" or heavier tiles use a trowel with bigger notches like 1/2" x 1/2" so the bond mortar (thinset) will be thicker.

The 2011 Tile Industry Standards define the minimum bond layer thickness to be 3/32" after beat in, but the maximum thickness has more to do with the manufacturer of the thinset mortar you are using. Many "thinsets" max out at 1/4" in a single layer. "Medium Bed" types of thinset may go up to 1/2" or more, but you must follow the manufacturer's instructions. Thinset mortars made thicker than they were designed for can shrink and crack the tiles.

Why might they put wax on the wooden floors in bowling?

The wax seales & protects the floors & makes the balls do less damage as they hit the wood.

The maple on a real wood bowling lane is very expensive to refinish & replace so a bit of wax helps keep the maintainance cost down. Pro bowlers also will tell you they can tell when a lane has just been waxed, it changes the way the ball moves on the lane.

How do you freshen your carpet?

There are quite a few ways but the best way is to get a carpet cleaner that is scented. I would get the ones that you spray on all over the carpet, let it soak in then hover up. :) xx

How much to charge to install hardwood floors?

Labor Prices

Fees & charges change from town to town, region to region, the best ways I can suggest to find a good range is :

Run a short ad in Craigslist, that will likely get you someone hungry & maybe unlicensed so you will know the cheapest price.

Then call the local Home Depot or Lowes & ask what they charge if you buy your tile from them???

That will be the highest price in the market

Now you would have a good range & then its time to look for quality & references... a steal on tile or a great price on labor, can be VERY COSTLY if you give the job to a butcher..

My bet will be you will find someone on the low end at about $2 per sq ft & that the depot will be $6-8 bucks a foot after they do all the add ins...

Get it in writing...Never pay for it all upfront

What is the average price per sq-ft for tile installation in TEXAS?

Call the Home Depot and ask what their rate is, they are usually the highest labor rates in town. Run a craigslist ad for the cheapest. Those are 2 fast and easy ways to get an accurate range.
