What is the tin whistle made out of?
The tin whistle, also known as a penny whistle, is typically made from metal, often brass or nickel-plated brass, which gives it a bright, resonant sound. Some versions are also made from plastic or wood, offering different tonal qualities. The mouthpiece is usually made of the same material as the body, and the whistle may be finished with a coating or lacquer for durability and aesthetics. Overall, the choice of materials affects both the instrument's sound and appearance.
How did they make baseballs a long time ago?
The process of making baseballs have changed little over the years. Two pieces of figure-eight-shaped cowhide is dampened to permit pliability and placed around a string wound core, then placed in the stitching clamp to secure the baseball during the process of sewing on the cover by hand. Pilot holes were pre punched into the covers to help guide the stitching, and stapled together to hold in place for sewing. The baseball is then hand-stitched together with 216 raised stitches. It takes about 13-14 minutes to hand sew a baseball.
This process has been used since the earliest days of baseball. For more information on vintage baseball stitching clamps, and the making of baseballs I will leave some links below. -Steven KeyMan
