Their presence also prevents other herbivores from taking over an entire area. As herbivores, they are also a food source for carnivores. Without them, animals such as cheetahs, hyenas, and lions would not be able to eat and survive. With the death of carnivores, the level of other herbivores would rise, and the level of grass (primary producers) would decrease due to population increases and low food supplies. Eventually, many animals and plant species would die. A biome would fail as a whole.
