Ave Maria in a minor is probably his most famous song. 'Die Forelle' is another song that made him to compose his famous 'Trout Quintet'. Erlking is an all-time-masterpiece out of his songs.

Schubert is well known for his collection for his 600+ lied (songs) and song cycles. He is popular for his string quartets and the Trout quintet as well. He wrote more than 10 piano sonatas including Relique which gained their popularity only after 19th century.

Schubert was died in Vienna in 1827. He was died at the age of 31 from syphilis. By his own request, he was buried in the village cemetery of Wahring.

Originally it's in g minor, but versions in f minor and e minor are also common.

He was active at the time Classicism was giving way to Romanticism. He saw himself as a composer. He mostly used the forms and harmonies of the Classical era, therefore wasconservative.
