I am having that exact same problem this evening. I chose to wear a nice longer but sleek black skirt. Plain but elegant black pumps, nude stockings... if any at all and a dark maroon colored dress shirt. I don't think it's inapropriate anymore to wear colors, as long as they are of a darker shade. I am also thinking it may be a good idea to bring a sympathy card with a hand written, well thought out statment of my sincere condolences. Good luck to you and I am sorry for your loss.
