German Shepherds

Well i have a German shepherd and i know a lab and i think they grow at they same rate. if there was a difference i would say the German shepherds grows a tad faster.

I have one that just turns 16 this month and shows no signs of giving up soon. He is deaf in one ear, he has cataracts but is not blind, and his hind quarters shake a little, but I recently took him for a 7 mile walk in a neaby state park. He will not venture out of sight of the house by himself anymore, but he loves to walk every day and sleeps most of the rest of the time. He has eaten Ole Roy (WalMart brand) his entire life. I think he'll make 17, possibly 18.

After at least a year. Unlike other dogs, these dogs need to be fully developed before under going being 'fixed'.

The heats are a regular cyclic occurence. you cann;t "bring it on" but you can time them an make areaosnable prediction of when they will occur.

They aren't show quality, apart from that and maybe they need baths more nothing!

It is not a different breed, but a specific gene that causes long hair in German Shepherds. A German Shepherd with long hair is still of the German Shepherd Breed.

Depends on your specific dog allergy. Just because you are allergic to dust mites does not mean you're allergic to German Shepherds.

Yes! VERY strong. They have to be, as they are working dogs. But as long as you train them to walk to heel or put a harness on them, it isn't a problem. I have two, by the way

It is seriously said that a German Shepherd should only have two litters a year but any dog should only be bred three times in their life.

The more litters a dog has, the less healthy she will be.

People who have excessively bred their dog have failed to notice that the pups fade in healthiness.

i don't think so, German shepherd is a breed that makes the 2 best guard dog, so i recommended you if you buy a bulldog or a German sheperd, NEVER buy a German sheperd with a bulldog, they might tear each other into pieces. But it is up to you, that was just my warning, the choice is yours.

Most dogs reach their full height at 18 months of age, and just fill out after that. Try not to over feed, as both of these breeds suffer with joint problems.

The original name for this dog breed in Germany is Deustcher Schaferhund which literally means "German Shepherd Dog". It is also interesting to note that the word "Dog" is actually part of the name of the GSD dog breed.
