Alright so my dog Zena, a 4 year old female black and tan American shepherd is such a sissy. She is very loyal and friendly to everyone in our household. Though she has another side. Like when she sees stranger dogs outside (are front yard is fenced, and we have three other dogs), she'll raise the fur on her back, her tail will stick out straight and she'll let out this vicious bark. Though when people come over she will let out a muffled bark and hide behind furniture or under my legs. But when there backs are turned she will attempt to nip at their feet, legs, or butt :P She is also afraid of the sweeper and if it is coming in her direction she'll go ninja and leap out of the way. So my question is it normal for my German shepherd to be so fearful and aggressive towards strangers/friends (and she is also like this towards people she has seen before) Why does she do it?

It depends on both dogs personalities. My German shepherd gets along great with my friends small dogs, but they are all great dogs. the best way to find out is have both dogs under control (leashes) and let them meet on neutral turf, such as a park.

As a great dane owner myself and an experienced animal worker, I would have to say that great danes make eccelent pets. They get along great with other animals, but are generally very shy. However, all animals are different, which may result in the occasional mismatch. With my experience with great danes, there is one thing you should know. They are very shy to other animals (but get along) and are very quick to love. They are sometimes nicknamed the verlcro dogs because as you pet them they lean into you. An Old English Sheepdog should be fine in an apartment as long as it is provided with enough exercise, that is, a daily walk, jog or run. However, bear in mind this is an active breed of dog. Its ideal home should have a yard which is at least average in size.

if possible, you should walk your german shepherd on a short walk (1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, it doesn't matter) every day you get the chance. the length doesn't matter, they just need good excersise because they're big dogs.

By then a Shepherd is capable of an adult food so any complete diet brand will be all necessary.

As long as its a complete it doesn't need wet food also but you can add it if you choose so desire.

I have a shep/beagle names Evelyn and she is the sweetest puppy I or anyone else has ever come across. She weighs about 38 pounds (But I over indulge with the table scraps) she is sweet as the day is long and never acts up..you are lucky to be interested in this amazing breed
