How much do vet bills cost for a German shepherd?

All large breeds will cost more than a procedure would be for a medium or small sized dog.

The actual price of a bill differs to whatever has been done.

Obviously an operation is more expensive than a hearing test so I can't really tell you an exact price.

Also I can't really give you an exact prize because some vets prize higher and some lower so it really depends on what vet you go to, but ost likely its a higher prize no matter what because you own a commonly large dog.

How German shepherds are used for the police?

What can you feed German Shepard puppy?

YO German Shepherds are a large breed dog. If fed a diet that is too rich for their stage of development they may develop panosteitis (wandering leg lameness, also known as growing pains). At about six months of age, Shepherd puppies should be switched from a growth formula (puppy food) to a quality adult diet unless a vet says otherwise. Feed the highest quality of dog food you can afford. Start out by feeding the amount recommended on the food bag for your puppy's weight. If your puppy puts on too much weight, cut back a little. If he gets too thin, increase the amount. Each puppy is different. So there is no one set amount that will work for all puppies.

Your veterinarian can advise you on how well your puppy is developing. You should be visiting him regularly for the puppy vaccination series up through four months of age. Other contributors have said:

  • It may sound wrong, but some of the most expensive dog foods' main ingredients are ground yellow corn or chicken by-products. In beef-containing dog foods, the beef comes from dead, dying, diseased, or disabled cows. The meat consideered unfit for human consumption goes into it. My opinion is that you shouldn't feed your dog something you wouldn't eat yourself, so you should just make your dog food. It's cheaper and healthier.
  • Unless you REALLY know what you're doing, don't try to make your own food. Chances are you'll be missing one or more essential nutrients. Dog food companies do research to see what works best. Yes, many ingredients go in that we would consider unsavory, but never anything that would actually harm your pet.
  • For a young dog, you want something higher in fat content for energy. If you can't afford Iams, try Ol' Roy (Wal Mart) or Authority (Pet Smart). Feed dry, not moist, unless you want your dog to end up always refusing dry food. Check your dog's weight every month or so and adjust his food quantity accordingly. Most vets recommend two or more feedings a day for better digestion.
  • Young dogs should not need a vitamin supplement if their dry food is decent.
  • If your dog does not eat for the first couple of days after changing food, don't give in and add table scraps or anything like that. When he's hungry, he will eat.
  • I would talk to the people at your pet food store. They can recommend a nutritious brand according to your budget. I tell people to buy the best they can afford. I choose Nutro Natural Choice, it works out to $1 a day for my very large dog and the food is fit for human consumption! Don't feel guilty for buying a "cheaper" food. Just love your dog and make sure to have regular vet visits.
  • If you can't afford the food, I'm curious how you can afford the Vet. How can you afford the dog? A 40 dollar bag of food lasts mine a month, but I've got to tell you that we spend about 150 a month on average, including training, licenses, vet bills, flea tick worm medication, treats, food, and toys. And I have a healthy dog. You have a puppy, what you feed it now makes a huge impression on his health in the future.
  • I would try Canidae for the quality of food you are not paying as much as you think. Also Solid Gold is a good one. I would stay away from Grocery store brand foods just because of what they put in them. Fromm and Taste of the Wild are reasonably priced along with Eagle Pack. Stay away from dog food with by-products, corn, wheat, soy, and dye's!

Would a female German Shepard and a pit bull pup get along?

Pitbulls, as with any dog can be good or bad companions. I have owned two and both have been around other dogs with no problems. My roommates had a black lab and the other was a rotweiler. We never had any problems or fights with them but again it all goes back to how the owner raised the dog. Mine was raised around other dogs, kids, and a lot of people to play with. This, in my opinion made them less aggressive because they were not isolated and were comfortable around others.

Pitbulls are great dogs, don't get caught up in the bad wrap they bring with them.

What jobs do German shepherds do?

What do German Shepherds eat that is not dog food?

u can feed himm food gud in protein and vitamin fibres also u hav 2 feed him juicy bone every week

the following should be fine: cooked meat, carrots, apples, peanut butter, rice, cheese (although I have heard of dogs being allergic to cheese, not sure if that's true so I'd ask a vet first)

Those are the favourite human-foods of most dogs. There are others they can eat though.

TOXIC: onions, chocolate, garlic, cooked bones, avacado, macadamia nuts, walnuts, grapes, raisins...that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you're not sure, don't feed it to them.

So if you are going with an all human-food-diet, please please talk to a vet first, don`t just rely on google, this is your friend`s life on the line! Best of luck!

What is the opposite of shepherd?

Linguistically speaking, "shepherd" is a noun and it has no opposite.

The opposite gender (not often used) is shepherdess (female shepherd).

The opposite of the verb to shepherd could be to desert or to neglect.

Metaphorically, the opposite of "shepherd" would be "sheep". This compares a person who acts like a leader to a person who acts like a follower. The word "sheep" sometimes implies that a person follows others because he/she does not have the judgment to make a decision by him/herself.

Does a German shepherd have any major medical issues?

No, not all.

The incidence of health issues in well-bred dogs is much lower than in the general population of pure bred dogs because the breeders of well-bred dogs take time to understand genetics and they breed for love of the breed and to better the breed, not to make a buck.

The problem is, as with all popular breeds, that there are too many back yard breeders and puppy mill breeders churning out dogs. Another problem specifically with German Shepherds is the attitude of many of the breeders competing in conformation. They've forgotten what a German Shepherd is and are breeding for fads in appearance instead of function.

Here's what to look for in a well-bred German Shepherd:

1. He has working titles in his pedigree. Schutzhund, obedience, tracking, herding, agility, any performance event.

2. Make sure he comes from OFA certified parents. OFA maintains a registry for hip structure and rates dogs according to a hip displaysia index. And make sure the parents have other health clearances, including CERF and cardiac clearances.

3. Meet both parents in the owner's home. How do they respond to strangers? Are they calm? Are they intelligent?

How much does a german Shepherd cost in a lifetime?

This would be a very difficult question to answer, each owner feeds their dog differently. Also it would depend on what veterinary care, has been provided throughout the 12 months of ownership.

An estimate for feasibility studies (if you are planning a purchase) is $1000/yr. The annual tab may be twice this if there are medical problems.

Who has more jaw pressure English bulldog or German Shepherd?

Dog bite strength is proportional to the size of the dog. German Shepherds have an average adult weight of 60 to 90 pounds. American Bulldogs have an average adult weight of 75 to 125 pounds. Based on an average sized dog of each breed, the American Bulldog would have a stronger bite. Below are a few measured bite strengths of certain breeds, and other high bite-strength animals for comparison.

Pit Bull Bite: 235 pounds of force

German Shepherd: 238 pounds of force

Rottweiler: 328 pounds of force

Lion: 691 pounds of force

Hyena: 1000 pounds of force

How long before clipping your German sheperds ears?

Never. There is no reason this should ever be done. It is inhumane and unnecessary.

A schnauzers ears should be cropped between 6 and 10 weeks old, any later than that and your odds of them standing goes down. It is not necessary to have the cropped, however many show dogs still do this to keep the original look of the breed. The ears are usually completely heeled by 9 weeks of age if done at six weeks. It is a cosmetic surgery for dogs, just like many humans have things changed.

Can you be allergic to only German Shepherds and no other breed of dog?

Yes. Dogs can be allergic to other dogs. Specially if one dog has longer hair and is outside often. It puts pollen onto the dogs coat and if the dogs play together or lick each other the pollen causes allergies.
