How do you remove the transmission lines from the radiator on a 1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9 liter?

I am not familiar with this specific vehicle, but generally the lines are connected with a flare, or ferrule, type fitting which uses a jamb nut to secure it. A mating fitting is attached to the radiator. If this is the case, it is a matter or unscrewing the jamb nuts from the radiator fitting. If these fitting are tight, as they usually are, it is possible to damage, or twist the fittings out of the radiator so it is critical that two wrenches are used to "break" the nut loose first. Use a properly sized [tight fit] open end wrench, or a properly adjusted adjustable wrench to "hold" the radiator tank fitting to absolutely prevent it moving within the radiator. Then for the jamb nut, use [in order of safety] a fitting wrench [looks like a box wrench, with a slot missing so it can slip over the line], or an open end wrench, or with care, a properly adjusted adjustable wrench. j3h. An addition was made to the question pointing out that although ferrule type connections were used at the ends of the lines "away" from the radiator, the connections AT the radiator used "some type of push on connector." I think that THIS type of connector is probably similar in operation to the quick connect chucks on compressed air hoses [and also, automotive fuel and AC lines] in that they are "self-locking," and the locking mechanism must be released before the connection can be dissembled. If that is the case, there is a special tool required to release the locking device, and the tool is more than likely available at most auto parts supply stores for a reasonable price. If, for some reason, the tool cannot be obtained there, then it could be found at the parts department of the manufacturer's local dealer. j3h.
