What happens if golden retriever be outside in winter?

Labrador retrievers have a short, dense, waterproof coat with an undercoat that makes them well adapted to being outside in cold weather. Dogs, like humans, can develop frostbite and hypothermia if left outside too long, though. Early warning signs include shivering, standing with one paw raised, lethargy, weakness, muscle stiffness, and difficulty breathing.

The SPCA warns dog owners to provide adequate shelter for outdoor pets. This includes a draft-free, waterproof doghouse with a floor raised several inches off the ground, as well as plenty of straw and blankets for warmth. You can buy a heated doghouse or floor mat for additional comfort.

The truth is, most dogs do better living indoors. Labs are friendly, sociable family dogs that prefer spending time with their human companions. Imagine how cold and lonely you would feel if you had to stay outside all winter!

What is a genius name for a golden retriever?

This is up to you, but there are a few rules about naming a Golden Retriever: 1. Choose a 2 syllable name. The name "Alexandra" is not a good example because it is too long. You can call her Alex for short. 2. Choose a name that is easy to call out. "Max" is a good example. 3. Don't choose a name that sounds like one of the commands. For example "Paul" sounds like "Paw". 4. Choose a name that suits your Golden Retriever's appearence. For example, "Blackie" is a good name for a black dog, but not a Golden Retriever. A better name for a Golden Retriever is "Amber". 5. Choose a name that suits your Golden Retriever's temperament. For example, an active female Golden Retriever can be called Electra.

Why would a Golden Retriever Drool?

How much are the labador retrievers at pet land?

It varies from breed to breed. The more expensive dogs such as bulldogs can range in the thousands, while most most purebreds will range from $300-600. Mixed breeds will be a little less. However, dogs are priced at their highest point when they first arrive, and will often drop the longer the dog is there. Some dogs that overstay their welcome at the pet store have sold for as little as $99.

Can yellow labs have golden eyes?

Labradors or any other dogs can see some colors but not all. As humans we see many more colors than dogs. Dogs can see colors like blue, light blue, gray, light yellow, darker yellow and very dark gray. So to answer the question, dogs can see colors, but not as many as we can.

Is there an easy way to teach a golden retreiver roll over?

Basic commands not only teach helpful skills, they reinforce your role as your dog's leader. Using treats to lure your dog into the correct position or place, and then to reward her for obeying, is one of the easiest and most dog-friendly methods.

Have your pup lie down. Then take a treat and wave it in front of his nose until you have his full attention. Move the treat down the dog's body toward his front legs, then over his body toward his back. Move slowly enough for his nose to follow the treat. As your pup rolls over onto his side and back, keep moving the food lure so that he rolls completely over into the down position once more.

How long does golden retriever live?

Oddly enough, the answer to this question is not as straightforward as one might think. In the recent past, Goldens frequently lived an average of 12 or 13 years; however, a tendency toward cancer has been accidently bred into some lines. Dogs with this sort of background live at most to age 8 or 9, and some will have a far shorter life. In general, field-type Goldens -- bred as sporting dogs -- live longer than show-or-pet-type animals. Speaking personally, my beloved retriever Cody, born in 2003, lived to be 14.5 years. The longest-lived specimen of this breed that I know of lived to be 18. Consider buying a field-type puppy from the most reputable breeder you can find.

When can a golden retriever puppy leave its mom?

As with all dogs, this depends on the age of the puppy, and what you mean by "left alone."

No puppy should be left unsupervised for even a minute in an area where they can hurt themselves or damage furniture (i.e. by chewing, or if they aren't yet housebroken). And no dog should ever be left in a vehicle alone, especially in warm or hot weather.

But once the dog has been trained, and is past the destructive chewing stage, they can be left alone for longer and longer periods -- which will vary, depending on the individual dog; Golden retrievers, as sociable animals, crave a lot of loving attention.

One helpful training tool is to place the puppy in a confined area appropriate to its size; this will provide them with both security and an incentive to potty train sooner.

What do golden retrievers do during the day?

How do you train a Golden Retriever dog?

Yes, of course! It's a great way to bond with an animal.

* Once a month, or when dirty, bathe the dog with lukewarm water and a dog shampoo. Use conditioner if you like, or if the coat is tangled. Be sure to wash thoroughly, specially the neck, behind the ears, in the "armpits," in the "groin," and don't forget the wash the genital and anal region gently but thoroughly.

* Some dogs may need their anal glands expressed. (Dogs eating a healthy diet and that are not overweight usually do not need this.) Your vet can instruct you on how to know when this would be necessary and how to do it.

* Brush the dog's coat once every week--brush it as long as you can until your arm cannot brush any more. Use the weekly brushing a an opportunity to check the dogs ears, behind the ears, his or her "armpits" and groin and under the tail for any parasites, and to generally assess his or her skin for injuries, infections, or other issues that may need the attention of a vet.

* Cut your dogs nails about twice a month, avoiding the quick.

* Clean out the dog's outer ear and just inside the ear canal (not too deep) with a clean, dry cotton towel or cotton ball at least once a week. If the ears smell yeasty or if the dog's ears are obviously bothering him or her, use a gentle dog ear cleaner from the pet store.

* Check the pads of the paws for cuts, tears, etc., and moisturize them with a dog lotion about once a week--more during summer or if the dog walks a lot on pavement or rocky surfaces. If there are any serious tears or cuts, see a vet.

* Dogs can't lick under their chins, so it can help prevent infections if you wipe off the flues and chin after eating or digging, etc.

* Don't forget the clean the dog's bedding at least once a month or when dirty.

* Remember to administer the dog's flea and heartworm medicines as prescribed (see your vet).

* It sounds ridiculous, but you can really keep a dog healthy by brush his or her teeth with dog toothpaste and a finger brush (both for sale at the pet store) a couple of times a week. Otherwise, bacteria and other things can slowly erode the dog's oral health--and slowly his or her overall health as well.

Can mini golden doodles swim?

Yes they can.It just depands on the coat they have.

Are golden retrievers expensive?

It depends on where you purchase all your items. Golden Retrievers are obviously more expensive then smaller dogs because they need more food, water and grooming (if long haired.) Some vets charge more for bigger dogs because they need more vaccinations or medical attention if an illness occurs. Breeders are usually more expensive than pet shops, but breeders usually offer healthier dogs. They are fairly easy to take care of. They are not usually picky eaters and their stomachs do not get upset very often. So, the expense of a Golden Retriever is moderate. Vet bills are probably the most expensive thing to worry about. Dogs do need to be spayed or neutered, and they need annual shots/vaccinations. The costs will depend on the vet you go to. Overall, Golden Retrievers are easy to care for, moderately expensive, friendly and beautiful dogs.

Do golden retrievers bite?

Does one blue eye in golden retrievers represent blindness?

No. There are lots of blue eyed dogs. Huskies, Australian Cattle Dogs & Danes, for example, often have blue eyes.

My Toy Poodle had one blue eye from 3 weeks of age, she is now 12 weeks old and diagnosed with glaucoma. Had eye removed yesterday, but was told that it could spread to left eye…..

How long do golden retrievers sleep?

Dogs are made to sleep a lot when they aren't doing anything. This comes from the wolf ancestry. Wolves go like crazy when they are hunting. Once they eat, they can sleep and laze around for several days before hunting, again. the golden, like most dogs, retains this ability to sleep, but also like most dogs, they need those bursts of intense release of energy by running hard, playing, and so on.

It is not unusual for a golden to sleep in the mid-morning after breakfast, be pretty active for awhile, then sleep a couple of hours in the afternoon. After supper, they may like to play vigourously, and then bed down and sleep another 7 or 8 hours, waking just in time for breakfast. Of course each dog has its own sleep timetable.

Is the golden retriever a predator?

Golden Eagles are considered endangered for a number of reasons. The number of Golden Eagles in the world are dwindling.

Is a Lab the same as a Golden Retriever?

No, they are entirely different breeds. Both are retrievers, as the Labrador Retriever.

The nickname for the Golden Retriever is "goldie" or a Golden. Both are breeds of dogs.

Within both breeds there is great variation: coat, size, head, jaws.

Labs tend to have short hair; the goldies have longer hair, and if they are inside animals, they have to be brushed more often, unless you just like hair balls in corners and such.

Labs tend to be overly hyper and exitable till they are five, and even after that they don't quite 'grow up' mentally. Retreivers tend to calm down at 3 years of age, so they are more recommended for little kids then the lab. and are among the most registered dogs in the US.

While is is not smart to ever leave a child (your definition and age limits) with a dog alone, generally, these both breeds are not inclined to chew promiscuously upon children. As with all dogs, don't bet the farm on it, however.

Check the links following for images and more information about the two separate and distinct breeds.
