Labrador retrievers have a short, dense, waterproof coat with an undercoat that makes them well adapted to being outside in cold weather. * Once a month, or when dirty, bathe the dog with lukewarm water and a dog shampoo. Use conditioner if you like, or if the coat is tangled. Be sure to wash thoroughly, specially the neck, behind the ears, in the "armpits," in the "groin," and don't forget the wash the genital and anal region gently but thoroughly.

* Some dogs may need their anal glands expressed. (Dogs eating a healthy diet and that are not overweight usually do not need this.) Your vet can instruct you on how to know when this would be necessary and how to do it.

* Brush the dog's coat once every week--brush it as long as you can until your arm cannot brush any more. Use the weekly brushing a an opportunity to check the dogs ears, behind the ears, his or her "armpits" and groin and under the tail for any parasites, and to generally assess his or her skin for injuries, infections, or other issues that may need the attention of a vet.

* Cut your dogs nails about twice a month, avoiding the quick.

* Clean out the dog's outer ear and just inside the ear canal (not too deep) with a clean, dry cotton towel or cotton ball at least once a week. If the ears smell yeasty or if the dog's ears are obviously bothering him or her, use a gentle dog ear cleaner from the pet store.

* Check the pads of the paws for cuts, tears, etc., and moisturize them with a dog lotion about once a week--more during summer or if the dog walks a lot on pavement or rocky surfaces. If there are any serious tears or cuts, see a vet.

* Dogs can't lick under their chins, so it can help prevent infections if you wipe off the flues and chin after eating or digging, etc.

* Don't forget the clean the dog's bedding at least once a month or when dirty.

* Remember to administer the dog's flea and heartworm medicines as prescribed (see your vet).

* It sounds ridiculous, but you can really keep a dog healthy by brush his or her teeth with dog toothpaste and a finger brush (both for sale at the pet store) a couple of times a week. Otherwise, bacteria and other things can slowly erode the dog's oral health--and slowly his or her overall health as well.

It depends on where you purchase all your items. Golden Retrievers are obviously more expensive then smaller dogs because they need more food, water and grooming (if long haired.) Some vets charge more for bigger dogs because they need more vaccinations or medical attention if an illness occurs. Breeders are usually more expensive than pet shops, but breeders usually offer healthier dogs. They are fairly easy to take care of. They are not usually picky eaters and their stomachs do not get upset very often. So, the expense of a Golden Retriever is moderate. Vet bills are probably the most expensive thing to worry about. Dogs do need to be spayed or neutered, and they need annual shots/vaccinations. The costs will depend on the vet you go to. Overall, Golden Retrievers are easy to care for, moderately expensive, friendly and beautiful dogs.

Dogs are made to sleep a lot when they aren't doing anything. This comes from the wolf ancestry. Wolves go like crazy when they are hunting. Once they eat, they can sleep and laze around for several days before hunting, again. the golden, like most dogs, retains this ability to sleep, but also like most dogs, they need those bursts of intense release of energy by running hard, playing, and so on.

It is not unusual for a golden to sleep in the mid-morning after breakfast, be pretty active for awhile, then sleep a couple of hours in the afternoon. After supper, they may like to play vigourously, and then bed down and sleep another 7 or 8 hours, waking just in time for breakfast. Of course each dog has its own sleep timetable.

An EXTREMELY bad combination! A pit should not be crossed out with ANY OTHER BREED. And sadly they would look like pits, just perhaps a bit smaller.

of course NOT!!!!!!! goldens rock and u kno it. altho it does depend how u read the question. they r smelly if they never get a bath. they so get stinky pretty quick. my golden takes bath every like 5 months! he livs outside too! so ya they dont stink only if they dont take a bath!

Greyhouds are thought to have come from Egypt, where simmilar dogs, such as Salukis and Pharoh Hounds came/come from.
