The first Comfort Retriever was created by a Golden Retriever breeder who had wished for years that there was a smaller variation of Golden Retriever so that even owners that preferred smaller dogs could enjoy a Golden Retriever. In 2003 the first litter was produced. This breeding was done by Kathy Burgess in Kentucky. The first two litters were composed of Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel. When temperament issues occurred the Cocker Spaniel was discontinued from the breeding program. All further litters were composed only of Golden Retriever and Poodle.

The Miniature Golden Retriever is not a purebred; rather, it is a specific type of mixed-breed dog or crossbreed. As such, it is not accepted for registration by recognized registries of purebred dogs.

Miniature Golden Retrievers composed only of Golden Retriever and Poodle can be registered with the Designer Dog Kennel Club (DDKC). They registered the first Miniature Golden Retriever July 21 2009.

Since the first Miniature Golden Retriever was produced and registered other breeders have started calling their dogs Miniature Golden Retrievers, despite the dogs having different breed combinations from the original Miniature Golden Retriever. Breeders have found other hybrid registries that will register their dogs as Miniature Golden Retrievers.

Miniature Golden Retrievers composed of Golden Retriever and (an unknown cross) can be registered with the Dog Registry of America (DRA)..

Miniature Golden Retrievers composed of 50% or more a golden retriever, up to 25% poodle, American Cocker Spaniel or other spaniel breed can be registered with the Certified Pet Registry (CPR).

Please be aware that since the registries have different definitions for Miniature Golden Retrievers any potential owner should ask what the hybrid is composed of. A dog registered with CPR could have no poodle and therefore none of the poodle intelligence, temperament, hypo-allergenic and reduced shedding attributes. The dog would also be composed of one or more types of spaniel. The types of spaniel used in the breeding should be researched so the potential owner will understand the impact of the dog's intelligence, temperament, health issues and other attributes. Please research those breeds.

the color varies from dark brown to light brown. their fur is long and they shed a lot. when they are young, they have fluffy fur but as they start to get older, they grow new fur and it is rougher around the back. their fur is semi - waterproof.

Well it actually depends on the skin conditions sometimes. Short haired and long haired dogs shed, but I would say that golden retriever's shed the least. I have had one in the past and I didn't have much of a problem with her.

Some are, especially those that are properly trained and bred to be used as hunting dogs. Genetics plays a great deal in how well and how driven a dog is to be used for hunting. Golden retrievers bred to be used for hunting mainly water fowl. There are several lines though that have this hunting strain bred out so that they are only good as pets or service dogs for the blind and handicapped. However, there are still a number of bloodlines that exist that breed such dogs for use in hunting. They are not bred to fight or attack animals like Rottweilers or Rhodesian Ridgebacks or even Irish Wolfhounds are, but rather to go into the water, fetch the birds that have been shot by the hunter and bring them back to the hunter.

It sometimes varies with different dogs. If the dog is getting ample exercise everyday then 1 cup twice a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) would be good. Again, depending on the dog, 1 heaping cup once a day would be fine too. Most dog foods give recommended servings based on the weight of the dog. It's best to follow this and adjust as needed. If you see your dog is loosing weight add a little more, if is gaining weight reduce. Foods have a wide range of protein and fat levels as well.

I walk my golden about 1 hour a night, as long as she or he is full grown and its not to hot you should be fine, you really only have to worry about a puppy walking to far Make sure to bring along water or walk near a water source as goldens love there water!!

Golden Retrievers have webbed feet. Their fur is longer and thicker. They have two coats of fur, the long silky topcoat, and a softer fuzzier undercoat. The fur fans out off the backs of their legs, and they have very prominent fans from the bottom sides of their tails. Goldens tend to have a more narrow face, but that is not always true.

Labs have shorter hair. It is still soft, but does not have the same fuzzy coat under the topcoat. Their heads are usually a little broader. The fans are absent from the backs of the legs and from the tail.

5: Your dog is over 18months of age.

6: Your dog is up to date with shots and vet-checked.

Remember these things when considering breeding your dog.
