Your goldfish keeps floating to the top on its side what is wrong?
It probably has swim bladder disease. Swim bladder disease is when your goldfish is constipated, and the food is just building up in its stomach. This also happens when you do not soak their food and there is still air in the food and its puts air in the goldfishes stomach and therefore makes it float. Allow me to warn you this disease could be fatal for your goldfish if not treated. My goldfish had swim bladder disease, and this is what I did to help-
1: I made to sure there was little to no ammonia in the tank
2: I withheld food for 2-3 days. The last thing you want to do is add more air in there and possibly some of the food will digest and your goldfish will be relieved and you may have to do anything else. (Although I wouldn't count on it, this helped my goldfish but didn't stop the SBD. (Swim bladder disease)
3: This could also be caused because of lack of greens, vegi's, and fruit. Your goldfish can't live on a diet of pellets forever. Offer it greens at least 2 a week, or you can get a little clippy thing and you can put some lettuce in there. (My four goldfish chomp down a big piece of lettuce fast, they really love it. But I wouldn't recommend leaving it in there for more than 2 weeks) Also, give them a small slice of an orange. My goldfish love oranges, and I think that the orange really helped my goldfish. Don't leave the orange in for more than four hours because the citrus can bring up the ammonia.
4: Remember: Ryukin's and Pearlscales are prone to this disease because of their round shapes. (They are also prone to dropsy) Almost anyone that works with goldfish will have to work with this disease at least once- so that's ok! Good luck to you and your goldfish!!

Fish live in the water, so generally they only need food.

What fish need oxygen in water?
No fish likes to be in bad water although there are some species that have developed methods of surviving in these bad low Oxygen conditions. The Anabantid family which includes the Betta and the Gouramies have developed a "Labyrinth" which allows them to get oxygen from the air by means of a chamber in their skull are some that can survive in poor water conditions. You should still follow the basic rules of fish keeping if you want to be successfull keeping fish. The rules are. :-1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water changed every week. If you keep to the above rules, and feed the fish good food it/they will stand a chance of living a normal lifespan. If you fail in any of them I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick and will have a very short lifespan.
What does it mean if your fish is laying on its side but still breathing?
The fish is dying and will die if you don't change its water ASAP. There are some basic rules for keeping all species of fish. They are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. (Goldfish are 10 inch fish) :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. (This turns Ammonia into Nitrate biologically). :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. (This keeps the Nitrate levels under control). If you keep to all the above rules your fish should do OK. If you don't I can guarantee that your fish will constantly be getting sick and they will have a shortened lifespan.
Deadly fish are fish that can cause death. Examples are the lionfish, scorpionfish, and many of the larger and more aggressive sharks.
Is a 2 gallon bowl too small or too large for a goldfish?
It is much too SMALL. 1 goldfish needs a minimum of 10 gallons of water. It must also have a permanently running 'cycled' filter and it must also have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. It is preferable to keep the goldfish in a larger tank so that two or more can be kept, as goldfish are social fish.
A two gallon bowl would be suitable for a single male betta IF and ONLY IF a suitable small filter can be found that does not disturb the surface of the water too much, and a heater can be found that does not present an electrical hazard in such a small tank - 25 watts or less. If no heater is available, you could keep a single paradise fish provided the tank has a filter. I strongly recommend that you don't attempt to keep any fish in a tank smaller than 5 gallons, especially if you are a beginner, because it is so much more difficult to keep the water quality good in such a small volume of water.
What do goldfish do before they die?

Can a goldfish eat too much and die?
A fat goldfish is unhealthy, and the reason for the fattness of some goldfish is because of over-feeding. Though a goldfish owner may think that their goldfish are really hungry because they eat everything the owner puts in, a goldfish will really eat anything as mcuh as it can like it is really hungry. The biggest mistake goldfish owners do is overfeeding their poor goldfish. I always give my goldfish one day of fasting per week, but a fasting day isn't necesarry when you feed it the right, small amount.
How dark does a room have to be for goldfish to turn white?
Very dark, all the time, but truthfully it isn't healthy for the goldfish to be subjected to such conditions and it is just plain cruel to force a goldfish to stay in a dark room all the time.
Can goldfish live without a pump?
no other wise it cant get the magic sparkles it needs from the water
It depends what food the other fish eats. Bettas are carnivorous, so they eat meat. If the betta food is meat (which it most likely is) and the fish you want to feed is a also a freshwater carnivore, then, chances are, you can feed the fish betta food.
Do betta fish go together with goldfish?
Beta fish are solitary fish and generally will attack/annoy any other fish until they are dead. Check with your local pet shop that sell fish to inquire about what, if any, fish can co-exist with Beta. it all depends on how aggressive you betta fish is, i own two male bettas, i placed my first one in the tank with 3 other goldfishes and they get along fine, however when i replaced the 1st betta with the 2nd one, it was the more aggressive one and attacked my other fishes...... my suggestions is to buy a seperator for the betta and have it get use to the other fishes for the first couple of weeks then place them together. just a heads up, doing this can cause a betta to get stressed out, so be on a look out for simptosn of ick hello!
Can small freshwater crabs be kept with goldfish?
No. If it's small enough for the Goldfish to try and eat it, it will. If it's a larger type of crab, like Fiddler or Rainbow, then these need salty water and land to get out on and will try and catch and eat a Goldfish.
Will a plecostamus live with no algae in fish tank?
No. What happens in a fish tank is that ammonia is produced from the fish's waste (it is excreted through the gills, and their poo and uneaten food rapidly breaks down into ammonia). Plecos, by the way, are very messy fish. There is no way to prevent this from happening, and ammonia is extremely toxic to fish, even in tiny amounts. So the ammonia needs to be removed. The bacteria that change the ammonia into non toxic substances live in the filter, so without a filtration system the ammonia in the tank will build up and build up, killing the fish very fast. In order to sufficiently dilute the ammonia without a filter, you would have to do huge water changes several times a day, and in the sort of tank (100 gallons) required to support a fish as big as a plecostomus, this would be logistically impossible.
Can a boy goldfish with a girl goldfish?
As far as overall look and behaviour outside of breeding season, no. During breeding season, your female may become a bit fatter with eggs, and your male will get breeding stars on his gill plates and along the pectoral fins; these look like tiny white bumps.
