Do goldfish eat other goldfish?
If they are not friendly goldfish species than they will but in general they don't. If they do than you probably don't feed them enough but that is really unlikely.
yes they do. Its all a matter of size.

What causes a fish to have a damaged swim bladder?
In most cases it's due to overfeeding and constipation. Ryukin goldfish are more prone to this due to their body shape, so make sure that you feed cooked & deshelled peas at least once a week to help avoid constipation.
How do you know if a goldfish is dead?
Typical signs of goldfish illness include lack of appetite, loss of scales, loss of coloration, abnormal spots on the fish, staying at the surface of the water, and swimming upside down or on its side.
How do you keep your baby goldfish alive?
If your water temperature for your babies is a fairly consistent 70 degrees F, it can take up to 5-7 days for the eggs to hatch.
The warmer the water, the quicker they hatch, though 70F is just about right, for best development. Keep the water pristine, though, as babies are super sensitive to ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
Babies should be fed often, but sparingly, with frequent water changes to minimize the impact frequent feedings has on water quality.
I generally try to feed my fry 5x per day. Boiled egg yolks mashed with tank water is an excellent food for them, as are the little bits of free-floating algae that make "green water."
As they get bigger, add in daphnia and baby brine shrimp, and reduce feedings to 2x/day. Once they are too big to fit inside their parents' mouths, it is safe to put them back with mom and dad.
All you have to do is put them in vinegar and nature will do the rest.
Domestic cats are highly predatorial, wary, inquisitive but not very persistent creatures by nature when an easier meal is available. It is more of a play and curiosity scenario rather than a full attack, and may only last a few seconds to a couple of minutes, then it usually looks for more mischief to get up to after a short nap.
A Terrapin has a very hard shell and is usually sufficiently protected from most household cat attacks by tightly squeezing itself inside its' shell.
Some cats on the very rare occasion, have been known to persist for long periods and use their claws to dig inside the shell to eventually get a hold on some fleshy part, and may eventually make the poor terrapin stressed enough to lose its struggle to remain tightly packed in its shell. So the answer is unlikely, but possible, as most cats lose interest very quickly.
A larger cat such as a Jaguar and bigger, would have more success due to their larger size and more powerful bite to enable them to crush the shell. Jaguars have been documented eating tortoises on many occassions.
Would crayfish do well with koi?
Sometimes fiddler crabs or other crab species are sold for aquariums. Most require brackish or even saltwater. Few thrive in freshwater. Most require live insects, worms, and/or small fish to eat. They can harass or kill other small animals in the tank with them. Many have nasty pinchers. For this reason, they are best suited to a set-up solely for them. Almost all of the crabs sold for "freshwater" tanks require a haul-out spot. The water level must be low enough to allow them to get in and out of the water with ease. If denied the ability to get out of the water, they will eventually die. They most likely also require full spectrum lighting over the basking site but studies probably have not been done on this. Fiddler crabs and similar species stay relatively small, at a few inches in size.
How do you keep goldfish healthy in a bowl?
Goldfish need more space than what people may believe; one goldfish needs a 20 gallon tank, and you need an additional 10 gallons per fish after (so 2 goldfish in 30 gallons)
This is not just about their potential size (which is big), but the amount of waste they produce. The old adage of inches of fish per gallon is completely incorrect when it comes to goldfish due to being high waste producers.
What fish are best for a 10 gallon tank?
Provided you have a combined heater/thermostat, thermometer, and filter and the tank is set up with substrate, plants and lights, you could have fish from many species in your little aquarium. Many small Tetras come to mind as do several small Gouramies, small Danios and even some of the small Cichlids like Rams. The rule to remember is 1" of fish needs 1 gallon of water so that you don't overstock and have disease and other problems.

Has goldfish adapted over time?
There are many interesting parts in a goldfish. There are lots of fins in the gold fish. The anal fin is the fin just before the tail, and the tail is called the caudal fin too. Another one is the dorsal fin which is the single fin on top of the back, the pectoral fin which is the first forward pair of wings, and the pelvic fins which are the second ventral pair of wings. The top of the head is called the cranial. The scale is the skin of the goldfish. The fish has eyes, mouth, and nostrils also.
Goldfish live in environments which oxygen is in relatively found than us. The density of water makes it difficult for us to move fluid back in forth in the respiratory organs like we do with our lungs. That is why goldfish and other aquatic animals have special adaptations to solve these types of problems. Gills are the respiratory organ of most aquatic animals that breathe water to obtain oxygen, consisting of a filamentous structure of vascular membranes across which dissolved gases are exchanged. Instead of pumping water into and out, the animals pump water in one opening out to another making something like a stream in the organ but the animals don't use their energy to make it stop flowing then starting it on the opposite direction. Then, to make more gasses between the blood and water, it has an exchange system that exchanges gas.

I have had my goldfish for 12 years and in the last 2 years it has developed a habit of splashing with it's tail as I walk by . It does this about 2 times a day when it is hungry. If I don't feed it it will splash every time I walk by until I do feed it.
Why do goldfish do white excrete waste?
There will be a problem either with the water or the diet. My advice is to do a few large water changes taking all the proper precautions and equalising all parameters. Then I would improve the fishes diet by adding a feed of earthworms at least once a week.
How do you know when the goldfish is ready to lay eggs?
You should see that the female goldfish appears fatter than usual due to the eggs she is carrying. The male will have white spots on his front fins and gill covers and will pay the female a lot of attention chasing her around the tank or pond.
Usually a sick fish has its dorsal fin down rather than fully extended. Other things to look for are a sunken belly, any kind of whitish, stringy or fungussy (like cotton wool) stuff attached to the fishes body, mouth or fins. Scales should be laying flat smoothly with none missing. Splits in fins are another thing to warn you of problems as are whiteish spots about the size of pin pricks on the body and fins of a fish. Another thing to watch for is the way the fish swims and positions itself in the water if it seems to be struggling to either go up or down in the tank it has problems. There are heaps of other symptoms of illnes but the ones above will probably help you a little.
What do you do when a black molly has baby fish?
Your Molly will be very hungry and may be a little frightened so make sure she has been getting enough food and that she has a space in the aquarium to be on her own for a bit. Don't worry if she doesn't eat for the first couple feeding, this is normal sometimes. So with enough food and alone time your Molly will be back to her old self within a few days
How many eggs do comet fish lay?
Comet goldfish usually lay between 500-5,000 eggs. The reason why they lay so many is because goldfish eggs, and fry, have high mortality rates. Having so many eggs ensures that at least some of the goldfish fry will reach adulthood.
Why do goldfish shed their scales?
The fish has a fatal, untreatable disease called dropsey and should be euthanased. This problem is usually caused by very poor water conditions. ie polution due to insufficient water changes or poor filtration or both. To avoid this kind of thing happening you need to do at least 50% water change weekly as well as having a properly cycled filter operating in the aquarium. I hope you are also sticking to the basic rule of 1 inch of fish needs 1 gallon of water. If you are overstocked then you will need to do daily water changes of at least 20% per day as well as a large 75% one on week ends and maybe even more if you wish to avoid constant health problems with your fish.
How do you find male and female fantail goldfish?
Determining the gender of goldfish is a lot harder than people may suspect. During breeding season, the males will get what we call breeding stars on the cover of their gill plates; they look like tiny white bumps.
You might also be able to tell by their vents under their tail, but it takes a lot of practice and knowledge to easily tell them apart when it's not breeding season.
In addition, even if it is breeding season, and you have all males, or all females in your tank, it remains difficult to tell the difference as the males need a female in the tank, and vice-versa for the females so that they will show typical breeding behaviour.
yes the gold fishes eat everyday. if they are Hungary or not they tend to eat all the time..they are gluttons..but even if they are not fed they can live upto 15 days
What food should you buy for your baby goldfish?
None fatty meats like chicken breast, bits of bread and biscuit, bits of cooked vegetables like carrot, spinach etc. Insects like flies, then there are maggots and earth worms etc. It is very hard to feed a goldfish a balanced diet from your own supplies at home that is why pet shops carry Goldfish food. It is cheaper and far safer to feed your goldfish properly made food and supplement it with a few earthworms occasionally.
Why do goldfish stay still in the bottom of the tank?
Goldfish have several different fins that assist them in moving from place to place. Starting from the back, the caudal fin moves in a left to right motion to propel the fish through the water. The anal and ventral fins are for steering. A fish's pectoral fins are also used for steering, but in some fancy breeds these fins are also used for propelling the fish, such as with the Ryukin. Last but not least, the dorsal fin on the back of the fish is used for stopping. The fin is fully erect when stopped, and lower on the body when in motion. Fun fact, a goldfish cannot swim backwards.
Goldfish use their tail and fins to swim through water. To learn more, see the related link.
