Why do you pull the ball instead of draw it in golf?

When you "pull" the ball, you have actually mis-hit the ball. Typically, it will go markedly to the left (for a right handed player) and it will most likely be straight as opposed to curving like a hook. A draw is a purposely shaped shot done specifically to place the ball where you want it to be when the direction to the green is to the left at some point along the hole.

When you "pull" a shot in golf, it is because your swing path through the impact area is from outside-in and your club face is square to that path. A "draw" happens when either a) your swing path is inside-out AND the club face square at impact to the intended flight line (the more inside-out, the more severe the curve) or b) your swing path is square to the intended flight path AND the club face is closed at impact

What do golf shots boogie eagle mean?

You are probably refering to a "bogey" and an "eagle". Each hole on a golf course has a specific number of shots it should take a player to get his/her golfball from tee to hole(cup). This number is refered to as "par". There are par 3,4, and 5 holes on a golf course. On an eighteen hole course, these holes combine for a total of par 70-72 depending on how many par 3,4, and 5 holes the course contains. If a person takes 3 strokes on a par 4, this would be a "birdie" ( 1 under par on that hole). The scoring for a par 4 hole is like this: 2 over (6)= double bogey

1 over (5)= bogey

even (4)= par

1 under (3)= birdie

2 under (2)= eagle Hope this is what you are looking for.

Which PGA golfer has an arm sleeve tattoo?

None of them do. I've never seen a professional Golfer with at least one visible tattoo except Lee Trevino. But he covers it cause its not that great. Golf's a very conservative sport and lots of PGA golfers are religious so its not likely you will see a PGA Pro with an arm sleeve, even if there are no rules against tattoos.

What are the names of the original three clubs in golf?

Answer

I think the terms you are looking for are "brassie", "spoon", and "niblick" (and possibly "driver") . The woods and the brassie were named for their materials, while the spoon was named for its shape. I have no idea where the term niblick comes from. If you find a set of clubs made before WWII, you won't find 1, 3 or 5 woods, etc. Instead, the clubs carried actual names. At that time, the brassie was a long fairway wood; I believe it evolved into the 3 wood. I think the niblick was a medium fairway wood; evolving into the 5 wood. The spoon was a shorter fairway wood; I believe it evolved into the 7 wood. The 3 & 4 hybrids look very similar to a spoon, and essentially recreate it. My understanding is that, before there were true irons, the spoon was used in the same way the short irons are today, the niblick was used in the same way the long irons and the short fairway woods are today and the brassie was used like we use the long woods (driver & 3 wood). I believe that the irons themselves grew out of the spoon, as it differentiated into different shapes optimized for different playing situations and as new materials were introduced.

It's fascinating that "woods" are no longer made of wood, and that the long iron hybrids aren't irons, but spoons.

However, if you are looking for the names of the types of clubs, a prevous poster stated, "IF I HAD TO TAKE A GUESS, DRIVER, IRON AND PUTTER. IT IS THE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLUBS IN YOUR BAG. ALL CLUBS ORIGINATE FROM THE PUTTER FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD."

I don't know about that last statement - its not something I had heard before.

How many hits will a golf ball take?

In a practice day Tiger Woods might hit as many as 500 golf balls on the range a day. He may also play a round of golf where he could be hitting around 100 shots ( assuming he plays a few balls a hole). On a tournament day he may hit about 100 practice balls to warm up and then shoot 72 or less then go to the range and hit a few balls to iron out any problems.

Seven women made over one million dollars in the 2007 season. 29 women made over $500,000 in the 2007 season. The 50th ranked player, Mhairi McKay made $265,076. The 100th ranked player, Johanna Head, made $74,220.

What are the odds of having back to back 2's on a golf course?

The odds of course depend on what par is for the hole, and the skill level of the golfer (pro or not). As an example, the odds of making a 2 on a par 5, which is called an "albatross" are estimated at 6,000,000 to 1 by Golf Digest, and a 1,000,000 to 1 for golf pros. Back to back 2's, on back to back par 5's, for a PGA pro would then be 1,000,000,000,000 to 1 and never been recorded (very few opportunities given course designs). Interestingly, several players, including John Daly, have recorded more than one albatross in their careers!

Let's answer a perhaps more interesting question... The odds of making a hole in 1 for PGA tour players is 3,700 to one, so says Golf Digest, and the odds of an everyday golfer doing are 33,000 to one. Since golf holes are independent events, the odds of making two holes in one in a round are the same as two aces back to back. For a golf professional then the odds would 13,670,000 to 1, but the statistics show in fact that the odds are significantly better. Take a look at Golf Digests' Hole in One page for some great stats on aces. Of note is that Jack Nicklaus has done it 19 times, and that 5 people have done it back to back !

Another Answer:

While the previous answer addresses holes-in-one and holes-in-two "on par 5s," the question, as asked, has to do with the odds of getting a score of "two" on back-to-back holes without specifying the par for the two holes. The odds of this happening are not so great as one might imagine. Consider a par three hole either preceded or followed by an easy par four hole. It is relatively easy for even an average golfer to hit a good shot and get a birdie (one under par) on a par three hole...yielding a score of two. It may be a bit more difficult, but it's certainly not all that uncommon for an average golfer to get an eagle (two under par), particularly on an easy par four...and this, too, would yield a score of two. Back-to-back twos while perhaps a bit unusual for an average golfer, are common everyday occurrences for professional golfers.

How many major titles did Jack Nicklaus win?

Jack Nicklaus won 20 major golf championships. They were:

Masters Tournament (6 ) - 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1986

U.S. Open (4) - 1962, 1967, 1972, 1980

British Open (3) - 1966, 1970, 1978

PGA Championship (5) - 1963, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1980

U.S. Amateur (2) - 1959, 1961

British Amateur (0)

These tournaments used to be considered the standard benchmark for

"major championships". When Jack won the Masters in 1986, it was universally recognised as his 20th. For some reason this has changed over the last few years

as now you more often than not hear about his 18 "professional majors", with people less willing to accept and recognise his two US Amateur wins.

Naturally, many wonder if Tiger Woods is responsible for this change in historical thinking. Well if he is then he shouldn't be, for Tiger Woods won 3 U.S. Amateurs (1994, 1995, 1996).

So if you care only about professional majors then the current scoreboard (thru 2007) reads Jack 18 Tiger 14. If you care for a more traditionalist view (as I do) then the scoreboard would read Jack 20 Tiger 17.

For the record, here are Tiger's major golf championships:

Masters Tournament (4) - 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005

U.S. Open (3) - 2000, 2002, 2008

British Open (3) - 2000, 2005, 2006

PGA Championship (4) - 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007

U.S. Amateur (3) - 1994, 1995, 1996

British Amateur (0)
