Actor James Earl Jones technically became the first African-American male to receive all four awards when he was presented an honorary Oscar for career excellence.
On November 12, 2011, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences paid tribute to Jones, humanitarian Oprah Winfrey and makeup wizard Dick Smith at a special ceremony in Hollywood.
