Great Danes are considered gentle giants. They are moderately playful, affectionate and good with children. They will guard their home. Great Danes generally get along with other animals, particularly if raised with them, but some individuals in the breed can be aggressive with dogs they do not know.

I have a dane/boxer mix and he is great with kids. he learned sign langauge at a young age and is now 19 months and still remembers it. He sometimes thinks he's a lapdog and is very hyper and clumsy. But i do recomend the breed.

Harlequin Great danes have a white coat with black spots or patches scattered throughout. Merle Great Danes have a grey coat with black spots or patches. Harlequin Danes are recongnized by the AKC and are allowed to be showed. Merles on the other hand are not a recognized color and unfortunatly up until recently were killed at birth because they were undisireable.

Having a lot of gas can increase the chances of bloat by 60%. If their kibble is in small pieces, most of them are, add water to soften it and make it more digestible. Have their food bowl elevated so it does not have to bed down to eat. Depending on size, elevate the bowl 24 to 28 inches above the floor. Learn the symptoms of bloat. If they get it, they need to go into surgery within an hour from onset or it can be fatal. Bloat is also called "torsion".

An elevated food bowl was originally thought to be a good preventitive measure against bloat but research has progressed to show that an elevated food bowl can be more harmful to those dogs already at risk of contracting bloat. The link below expands on this point. Anti-gulp dog water bowls are a good idea, making your dog drink slower and therefore ingest less air. Slow feeder dog bowls too are useful in making it difficult for dogs to hoover up their food, encouraging them to chew before swallowing, both minimising the risk of bloat.

The world record holder is a great dane, but he is 7 feet tall on his back legs. Most Great Danes aren't as big.

But the Irish Wolf hound is the tallest dog at the shoulders.

I'm assuming that you are reffering to what colors should be bred to a blue dane. The AKC breed standard states that a blue great dane may be bred with one that is a blue or a black.

Danes were originally used as raiders in Egypt. Brought out by one trainer he would routinely have a pack of 10-25 dogs and would use them to heard and exhaust travelers roaming across the desert.

Later on they were shipped across Europe for an assortment of tasks all of which pertained to herding or security.

Great Danes are their own sub set of Dog.

You can't. But as far as a Dalmatian shedding, count your blessings. You could have a Cocker Spaniel or an Irish Setter shedding. Either of those would make you wish you still had a Dalmatian - trust me.

I would never use an invisible fence. They are an expensive farce. You can train your dog to stay within it own boundaries with one of these fences, however, other dogs can come and go as they please. Fences should protect your pets from intruders as well as keep them on their own property.

There are many different varieties of Great Danes based on their coat color. Harlequins are the costliest. A Healthy Harlequin pup may cost as much as 25000/- rupees in India.

Other colors like Brindal, Fawn or Black may be got for lesser rates. On an average you would have to spend at least Rs. 10,000/- to get a healthy Dane pup.

If you are going to crop your dogs ears it should be done as early as possible, before 4 months. You may have a hard time finding a vet to do it though since many vets will refuse to crop ears as they view it as cruel.

Reports artwork and artifacts indicate that a dog resembling a Great Dane might have existed over 2000 years ago.
