Much of what still exists of the Great Wall of China was built during the Ming Dynasty, mostly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Its construction occurred over hundreds of years, some sections of the wall being built as early as the 7th century BC, but very little of the ancient work remains.
* Both of the constructions began with orders of the emperors and ended with sweated labor of the populace. * Both of them were time-tested and proved to be very longlasting objects. * Both of them reflected the highest craftmanship and finest design of their time. * Both of them have lost their original function and were developed for tourism. * The Great Wall wasn't contemporary with the Colosseum, it's built nearly 300 years earlier. * The Great Wall was built for military purpose, the Colosseum is for entertainment. * The Great Wall was tough and practical, the Colosseum is elaborate and artistic.

They were places of shelter, as well as a central base for daily living (just as they are to ALL cultures).
How did the Great Wall of China impact China?
First it has protected Chinese people for centuries. Because in the ancient time, Chinese people in the northern part were frequently attacked by the Huns (a minority whose people were very good at riding and lived to the north of China). With the help of the Great Wall, Chinese warriors were more likely to protect their land and people.
Secondly, the Great Wall's birth was created by Chinese people's wisdom and the hard work. To an extent, the Great Wall forced the technology to develop and then to serve the building process.
Thirdly, in my opinion, the Great Wall also brought a negative impact on Chinese people. Thinking about the protection of the Great Wall, sometimes Chinese people relied too much on it and therefore they did not pay much attention to training the army but focus on the entertainments.
But after all, the Great Wall is China's pride. It units them. You can find the "Great Wall" in China's national anthem.
