What is the world's current great white shark population?

There is no reliable data on the population of great white's left in the oceans. However, they are on Appendix II of the endangered species list and it is widely agreed upon by scientists that their numbers are decreasing precipitously worldwide. There are some places like California, South Africa, and New Zealand where they are starting to show signs of improvement in populations; but the overall picture still looks grim. I have seen serious estimates ranging from as few as 800 to as much as 2,600. Quite honestly there could be a little less or quite a bit more; with their complex social structure, differing individual migration routes, mysterious and surprisingly shy/cautious behavior it is so difficult to get any real sense of the exact number. One thing is for sure this important apex predator is in serious jeopardy and has been greatly decimated over the last 40 years. When it has been removed from local ecosystems there have been harsh consequences. Unfortunately with the way things are going and the relatively long gestation period of these animals it is unlikely that their numbers will rise on a global scale.

Can sharks live in the Black Sea?

Sharks can and do live in the Black Sea. Leonard Compagno, an international authority on shark taxonomy, indicates in his 'Collins Field Guide to Sharks of the World' two species which occur in the Black Sea: the Angelshark (Squatina squatina) and the Thresher Shark (Alopias vulpinus). There is no doubt that a third species, the Spurdog or Piked Dogfish (Squalus acanthias), also occurs there, but it is strangely absent from the Black Sea on the distribution map. The author warns, however, that many distribution maps are likely incomplete, and that it is quite possible that many species have a wider distribution than illustrated.

How old is the great white shark?

The longest great white was captured not too long ago in southern Mexico it was measured to be 45 ft and weighed about 4.5 tons. After the capture the fisherman threw the huge fish back.

Improved Answer: I think you are referring to Megalodon, the only shark besides whale shark that exceeds lengths of 50 feet and up. The longest great white shark is 23 feet long and weighed around 5,000-6,000 pounds(around 2.5 and 3 tons). It wouldn't make sense if a 45 foot shark weighs 4.5 tons anyway. A 45 foot shark would weigh as much as 45 tons! That is what i think was the longest shark in the world you never know there may be a shark so huge u think its just the water or ,maybe its a really good player at Hide-&-sike. Get outside and get into nature and make your own discoveries!!

I believe the bull shark is more dangeres because it`s more aggresive, more common, more tenacius, lives in freshwater and swims exactly where people also like to swim. Warm shallow murky water.

Bull sharks are the most aggressive and can live in both salty and fresh water. They also hold the record of human deaths caused by sharks. It even said so on friggen shark week. To the guy who answered this question first, you spelled ANSWERS wrong.

How can a great white shark camouflage?

The Bull Shark, like most sharks, has a countershaded colour scheme. In essense, this means that the top side of the shark is a different colour to the bottom side. What this means in terms of camouflage, is that when viewed from above, the dark colouration blends into the dark colours of the waters below the shark. And when viewed from below, the light colours of the shark's belly blend into the bright colours emanating from the sky. The shark is thus able to use this to sneak up on it's prey.

Whales live in the "open ocean." They COULD swim in lakes, if there was one large enough, with enough food for them, that was a saltwater lake (there are a few--the Great Salt Lake and the Dead Sea are saltwater lakes). But whales don't live there. They live in the ocean.
