The length is about 440 yards. Different race lengths can be established by locating the starting box at various points on the track. At Derby Lane the 5/16th (1,650 feet) and the 3/8th (1,980 feet) distances are run. Other distances offered around the country are 1/4 mile and 7/16th mile distances. How long is a Greyhound Race?

User Avatar
The most common distance for a race in the United States is 5/16th of a mile. The race starts in a chute behind the top of the home stretch (U.S. greyhound tracks are uniformly 1/4 mile in length), and the dogs go around the track once. The next most common distance is 3/8 mile. Other distances include 3/16th, 7/16th, and (rarely) 9/16th.

Whats the is the value of a greyhound racing program signed by Pete Rose in February 1989?

User Avatar
== == A Pete Rose signed Greyhound program would be compatible in price with an 8 x 10 photo at about $30.-$40. Prices will vary based on condition, and the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature. Signatures that are not properly authenticated could sell at half the market value or less. The bulk of the value will rely on the signature, and how well the Greyhound program displays the signature. The condition of the program is as important as well. Because of Pete Rose's connection to gambling, the signed program could have added value. Pete Rose signs autographs for a living, and is often found in Las Vegas doing so. There are plenty of Pete Rose signatures on the market to go around, keeping the value down.

What age do you stop racing your greyhound?

User Avatar
around 5 years but if they still enjoy it carry on!!! In Australia the majority of "champion" greyhounds will finish their racing careers well before the age of 4 years. Champion female greyhounds will probably go on to have puppies and champion males may go to stud. "Average" greyhounds (as long as they are injury free and as it says above, if they're still enjoying it) can carry on racing for as long as they want - there are a couple of greyhounds currently still racing at nearly 6 years of age! You shouldn't really race them at all as its a cruel sport and they do not enjoy it themselves. I could say the same with horse racing.

Which has top speed greyhound or race horse?

Race track for greyhounds is how long?

User Avatar
Greyhound tracks in the United States are uniformly a quarter of a mile in circumverance. The most common race distance is 5/16 mile. This starts down in a chute that extends beyond the start of the home stretch. The next most common distance is 3/8 (6/16th) of a mile. This starts near the far turn on the backstretch. Other common distances are 7/16th and 3/16th, both of which start near the head of the backstretch. Rarely, a 9/16 distance race is run, sometimes known as a "Super Marathon". It begins in the same place as the 5/16 race does, and the greyhounds make two full circuits.

What is the worst thing about greyhound racing?

User Avatar
Racing isn't cruel, but if you ask me the worse thing, it's probably the injuries a greyhound can, get. I'm not saying they do, as it's very unlikely, but when they do it often causes them to retire. I do want to make it clear that this is very unlikely.

What do greyhound dogs eat?

User Avatar
I have a greyhound, and for breakfast she has mostly our food! You can buy greyhound cereal, but I recommend just normal cereal, because my Greyhound Trust did that, and so do I. She loves it and she has never had any problems with it. The cereal that we give her is either Weetabix or Cornflakes. Please don't add any sugar because that may be bad for them. You can also give them toast! But not too much because they may get the runs. (You know what I mean?!?!) And for dinner we give her Kibble, (Buy from any store) Add some hot water then allow to cool so it's not too hot. We add water because kibble is quite dry without water. For a little flavour, sometimes we put in some chicken or something!! She gobbles this up straight away! By the way, if you are just going to give them kibble and water, then your usual kibble runs out, don't go changing the brands just like that because it upsets their stomach and they get the runs... We don't want that, do we? So, when you are starting to run out, buy some different brand of kibble, so you have as little of the old, and a box of the new. Then put in the last of the old and a bit of the new. Slowly give them the new then that won't affect their health. Hope this helped! ( :

Do they use greyhounds in coon dog field trials?

User Avatar
That is actually a two part question. For the coon-dog field trials that are sanctioned by the various kennel clubs that register coon-dogs, only registered coon-dogs are allowed to compete. But for the open class "coon-dog" field trials that are run for cash purses, like the Kenton National and other events, the dogs used are almost all greyhounds or greyhound crosses.
