What should you do if you guinea pig breaks both back legs?
that once happened to my guinea pig do not take it to vet they make it worse we all agreed just do not pick it up make sure no pigs are being rough with it it will heal maybe month or so
Absolutly right, just home from vet, the right hind foot was sticking out after a fall, vet pulled and pushed his leg, then let him down on the floor and the full leg was hanging behind him and he was in agony, way worse than when I brought him in, vet said he could do NOTHING for him but charged me €39.50 for exactly 4mins of his time, he did'nt even offer a painkiller, I so regret taking the poor fella to the vet, Vet put him through agony simply because he wanted money, my advice is to leave the guinea pig alone, he'll have a much better chance!
Animal bone breaks must be stabilized usually by splinting and taping. With a small animal this is very difficult. The splint must take the load of the animal off the break as it walks. If you leave the hair on the leg it will be almost impossible to remove the tape without spraying the adhesive with ether.
Ether is sprayed on the adhesive to make it stick to rough shaved animal skin. The adhesive on the tape becomes liquid so it will stick to the uneven surface.
You are talking about four to six weeks if the animal recovers at all. If it is painful the animal may refuse to move and eat.

Is my one year old guinea pig to old to breed?
Yes, I would say that eight weeks is a bit too young to start breeding your guinea pig. I would suggest waiting until your guinea pig is about four months old to start the breeding process. Otherwise, if you start breeding your guinea pig too early, there are multiple complications that could arrise that might affect the health of the mother of fetus(s).

How does a guinea pig die at 3 years old?
Every guinea pig is different. Some live to be 15 others don't even live to 1 year old. It's all about how they got cared for. If you clean it's cage every other day, groom it, give it a bath every so often, and give attention, it will probably live for a long time. It all depends on how it was cared for. And every guinea pig is different. How well a guinea pig is cared for plays a major role in its overall longevity however that is not the only factor. Many guinea pigs become victims to genetic diseases which are not your fault as long as you took it to a vet and it received the best treatment possible. Always keep a hawk eye on your guinea pig's health making sure to check for any sores, abcesses, weight loss, change in behavior, or stool/urine changes daily or as frequently as possible.

Natural threats to wild guinea pigs?
The predators of guinea pigs are, birds. They do NOT like it when you pick them up, when you stand. I mean, if you walk to their cage standing, they will be afraid thinking you are a bird coming down to get them, so they panic, and run, and squeal. So craw when you walk to their cage, and they should be just fine with you.
What does it mean wen a guinea pig is limping?
If your guinea pig is old, it may be from old age, just like elderly people limp and lean over. your guinea pig may have arthritis and may have severe pain in its leg. You may have to get the leg checked for any muscle sprain or break in the bone.
Is it normal for a Guinea pig to cough?
I would check the inside of his mouth and his cage for things that he should not be chewing on, or swallowing. Guinea pigs can not vomit at all, so hiccupping would be a sign of abnormal breathing, or a reaction to something in his mouth. Also does he have any other drainage in his lungs or anywhere else that accompanies the hiccups? Hiccups can be from Upper Respiratory Infections, because the drainage restricts normal breathing. If he has any plastic, or wooden toys that he has been chewing on, remove them, and see if that helps, he could be trying to eat material like that. Let me know if you have any more questions. Amber xx
However, some people prefer cooler, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're not young (infant, child) or infirm, and that you keep active or wrap up warm.

Do you put sawdust or hay in an indoor rabbit cage?
Rabbits should always have access to hay* but not just any hay will do. Hays sold for farm animals (horses, cows) often contain legume hays (like alfalfa or clover), and these are not healthy for most adult rabbits. On the other hand, hay sold for pets often sits for months on the store's shelf and isn't fresh and healthy anymore by the time you bring it home. Consider the following guidelines:
Hay should always be fresh: it should be greenish and sweet-smelling, the bag shouldn't be full of dust or little broken bits, and there shouldn't be any mold or rot.
Adult rabbits eat grass hay. Timothy is the most common grass hay but there's also brome, orchard grass, meadow grass, Bermuda grass, etc. Oat hay is also good but it's a little high in carbs, so it shouldn't be the everyday hay but it's fine as a treat. Alfalfa (and other legume hays), however, is not recommended for normal healthy adults because it's so high in protein and carbs that it can make the rabbit sick.
Baby rabbits, pregnant/nursing rabbits, and sometimes underweight/sick rabbits eat alfalfa hay or an alfalfa-grass mix. These rabbits need the extra energy provided by alfalfa.
* Hay is high in fibre, so it keeps the rabbit's digestion healthy; hay is also the exact right kind of fibre that keeps a rabbit's teeth worn down (not all kinds of dietary fibre do this); hay also provides the rabbit with something to graze on, which is important for their mental health and general happiness.

All guinea pigs have poor vision in the first place, but it doesn't matter whether their red eyed or any other colour, they still have the same about vision. But they can still distinguish colours.
