Can you get a guinea pig for your male rabbit?

Although your pet rabbit would "accept" a guinea pig companion, the habit of the rabbit to jump playfully when happy could cause serious internal injury or even death of the guinea pig companion.

If you want your rabbit to have a companion, the best choice is always another rabbit - however both rabbits MUST be neutered (or neutered and spayed if the companion is a female rabbit) to avoid fighting or breeding, along with saving you the other troubles that neutering can fix (some types of aggression in both genders, spraying in males and uterine cancer in females - unspayed females who are not bred from have an 80% chance of being diagnosed with uterine cancer by the age of five years).

Also the rabbits should be introduced carefully (if possible take your first rabbit with you to a shelter to let him choose his own companion, as this would be much easier to deal with), first on neutral territory, and ONLY if the introduction goes well on the neutral territory, THEN socialize them in a place that your first rabbit considers his. If this doesn't go well put the rabbit companion in a separate cage, or if the cage is big enough, divide it so that each rabbit takes up half the cage and does not need to cross paths with the other rabbit.

When do guinea pigs give birth?

Once a guinea pig is pregnant it will take about 2 months till the birth of the babies. When guinea pigs are pregnant their teats don't start to enlarge until the last few days and labor, so you shouldn't have to worry about her being pregnant. It would have been careless for the pet store to keep males and females together as well. I will provide for you a list of the weekly signs of pregnancy. here are some signs that your guinea pig is pregnant!

Week 1 No signs

Week 2 Sow may start drinking more

Week 3 Sow will start gaining weight, there will be a tightening of the abdomen muscles.

Week 4 An experienced breeder will be able to feel small pups week 5 the sow will look some what larger than usual

Week 7 You will be able to feel 'quickening' this is when the babies kick

Week 9 It may become difficult for the sow to move around but she should still be active and eat and drink as normal. this depends on number of pups

The pelvic bones will separate sometime during this week

after two months, she will defecate and drink a lot of water .then the babies are born!

Best of luck with your guinea pig! if trouble should come, take her the the vet and they'll help

How do you get your guinea pig to trust you?

Try hand feeding it first. Be patient and continue this until he feels comfortable about you having your hand near him/her. Start rubbing him/her and when he/she feels comfortable about that start putting your hand on their belly but not picking them up. Do this for a while until they don't resist you. Then, when they feel comfortable about that pick them up but not out of the cage...eventually you can remove them from the cage and they will feel safe.

Can you get a guinea pig if you have a dog?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Guinea pigs get spooked very easily, and this would not be a good idea. BIG DOG: especially no!! if the dog is as big as a lab, don't try it. Your guinea pig will think you set him up and will start to dislike you. guinea pigs are very bright. SMALL DOGS: well, that's a little better. but still, guinea pigs are scared of anything bigger than them. a small dog is about the size of a cat, and believe me, you do not want to go there!

How do guinea pig get pregnant?

A female guinea pig gets a cycle every 17-25 days, for one day. On that day if she is with conntact with a male guinea pig it is almost certain she will get pregnate. So be aware that if you house oppiset genders together THEY WILL HAVE BABIES, which can be amazing but also hard to sell. When having what some may call sex the female guinea pig will have its bottum tilted slightly upwared. I the male is "sniffing" her bottum, EXPECT BABIES. My boy guinea pig got my friends guinea pig pregnate and were expecting babies in November hope this was helpful!
