No. Guppies eat brine shrimp, various tiny species of worms and commercial fish food.

What kind of fish can live together in a aquaium?

Fish of the same location or temperaments. In cichlids keeping them grouped by specific locations (i.e. South American cichlids, New American cichlids, Lake Victoria Cichlids, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi, Madagascar, etc.) helps keep deaths down, though it is possible to mix in some circumstances. There are also what is known as community fish. These are your generally more peaceful types such as mollies, guppies, sword tails, tetras, veritas, etc. And remember, just because a type of fish is suppose to act a certain way, does not mean all of them will.

Do you need to separate the pregnant guppy from the other fish in the other aquarium?

Yes because the other fish including the mother will eat the babies what you can do is get a mesh or plastic breeding net that you put in the tank with the other fish which you put the mother in when you think she is close to giving birth and after your sure she is done you take her out and leave the babies in there for about two weeks before letting them loose in the tank so there is no chance they will get eaten.

What does aquarium salt do freshwater guppies?

Aquarium salt can be used as a medication for certain illnesses of tropical fish including guppies, and used at the correct concentrations for a specified time, it could help a guppy get better from its illness. If on the other hand, if salt is just added to the water for no specific reason then at low concentrations it will do very little harm. At higher concentrations it could well kill guppies.

Can you put guppys in with goldfish in a tank?

Sorry, but no. Guppies are tropical fish, while goldfish arecold water fish. That's a major reason. Another is, when the goldfish get bigger, guppies will be severely harassed or in many fateful encounters. By "fateful" I mean, fish in goldfish's mouth struggling to get out. So please don't mix guppies with goldfish. No matter how nice the tank may look.

What temperature do neon tetras live at?

neon tetras live at standard tropical aquarium temperatures, but a good place to start is about 76 degrees Fahrenheit

Can angelfish and goldfish be kept together?

Angel fish (Pterophylum scalare) are one of the most tropical fish coming from the Amazon. Goldfish (Carassius auratus) are cold water fish. They both need totally different condtions and water qualities. So the answer is they could live together provided the water is kept warm and pure enough for the Angelfish but they will not do well.
No i wouldn't recommend it.... goldfishes live in cold waters and angel fish live in warm water so that wouldn't really be a good match up

Can male guppies live together?

Yes, I had around 20 guppies at my old house. They lived for around 3 months, kinda hard to keep track with all the breeding... Mine died from suicide, found it under a rock.

Are 7 guppies 5 tetras 1 placo and 2 larger 2.5 inch fish to big for a 10 gallon tank?

DEFINITELY. It is cruel to keep so many fish in one tank. Your aquarium stocking level is 323%. I would recommend taking out the pleco (Pleco's have been reported being up to 24 inches long.) Replace it with a small catfish such as corydoras. Take out at least 4 guppies (the recommended guppy ratio is 2 females per Male.) And if you take out the 2 larger fish, you should have a pretty good tank setup.

Can a guppy fish live in a cold water fish tank?

Yeah. I left my window open for the night, it was about 12 degrees F. The next morning after about 6 hours I closed the window but I didn't look at my fish. When i got home which was about 12 hours since i opened the window and 6 since I closed it, My fish was dead.

When will a pregnant black molly have its babies?

they are usually pregnant for around 4-6 weeks before they have the babies, however the parents will usually eat the babies within the first few hours.

(if your fish is about to have baby mollies i recommend separating the mother into a smaller tank using the same water they are currently in and separating the mother as soon as they are born or the other fish will eat them)

hope that helps.

Can you have 2 male guppies in the same tank as 3 female guppies should i buy 3 more females guppies?

Yes that is enough. You usually want to keep a two to three female to one male ratio. The male will constantly try to breed with the females. If there was only one the female you get stressed out and die. So make sure to keep two to three females

Can you cross breed a guppy with a platy?

yes, sometimes you can. It just depends on how mellow your betta is, and if you have enough planting in your aquarium so the platy can hide ( just in case). I would also recommend you get more than one platy, again just in case. For the most part though, they should get along pretty well, just keep in mind that no matter what you put in with a male betta, it won't like it, they like to be solitary. I hope this helped!

Can guppies breed with neon tetras?

You have to put them in a big tank at 70 to 75 degrees.Males blue line are straighter and slimmer. Females have their blue line curved. No heater needed.Filter is not needed because the fry gets sucked.Dont feed parents during breeding.Feed them a good amount before breeding.

What should you do when your guppies and tetra fish just had babies?

You need to separate the newborn fry from other larger fish or you risk having all your fry eaten. Fry from livebearers (guppies, swordtails, platties, mollies, etc.) can accepts powered flake food, other live foods such as baby brine shrimp are excellent foods, feed a small amount every 3 to 4 hours during the day.

Can guppys and goldfish be together in a tank?

NoGuppies, tetras, and gouramis are all wonderful fish to keep as pets but it is not a very good idea to stick them with a goldfish. Guppies, tetras, and gouramis are all tropical fish who like temperatues above 75 degrees F. Goldfish are coldwater fish which prefer colder temperatures of under 70 degrees F. By putting these fish together you would only stress them out. Also goldfish are a very messy fish that produce a large quanity of waste which could harm the tropical fish's gills. Most tropical fish like a pH that is above 7 and goldfish prefer a pH below 7.

Hope this helps ;)

Do guppies lose their gravid black spot before giving birth?

No, what you are actually seeing when looking at the gravid spot is the eggs inside the mother fish. The gravid spot does not go away until the mother has given birth to her young. The spot will get very dark before the fry are born, because they will begin to hatch out of their eggs before the birth.

Would seven guppies do okay in 2 gallon tank?

1 inch of fish per gallon so you about 18 but you will have the guppies eaten or the goldfish's fin bitten off as goldfish like to eat fish that are smaller than them (other than goldfish) and guppies are fin nippers so I would be careful or not keep them together

good luck

Do fancy guppies lay eggs?

you can't force them to breed but you can put 2-3 females with 1 male in a separate tank and eventually you will get fry(babies). In my tank i have mollie fry and previously had platy fry whish has now grown up and are adults

Does neon tetra fish eat guppies?

No, probably not. They're just as small/ smaller than guppies... however...

The Neons are a shoal fish and like to be kept in groups of around 6 or more. If they're in smaller groups they will be nervous and would probably nip on the guppies fins. If the fin nipping becomes serious enough the guppy could die.

Why are your guppies keep dying?

The basic rules of fishkeeping successfully are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. They are the basics which MUST BE KEPT for all kinds of fish. Then there are the variables which depend upon the species of fish. In your case you have Swordtails, which are tropical livebearers. They need to be kept at around 70F to 75F, and their water should be around neutral which is pH7. They like medium to slightly hard water around 5 GH. If you are not keeping your fish according to what I have just advised, simply doing so and correcting where you are missing out will fix the problem

Is a betta fish a tropical fish like guppies?

Yes, Bettas much prefer temperatures above 75 degrees.
Bettas are tropical fish, and need to be in freshwater, when using tap water let it sit there for a day when you know you're gonna do a water change the next day.
