To add flair, you can add mystery snails, clams or ghost or cherry shrimp. You can also put an angelfish or angelfish pare, but to be on the safe side, don't put anything to small in with it because any fish that has a mouth big enough to eat another smaller fish will usually eat it. Fish do all have their own unique personalities though, so if you get a shy angel he might not bother smaller fish. angels can get 7-8 inches long and 10 inches tall.If you plan to get mystery snails, don't add a clown loach because they will snack on the snails.

The male guppy would not (highly unlikely) kill the female on purpose. When this situation happens though, it's usually because of an imbalance in your aquarium between male and female fish population. The golden rule is 2 female for 1 male fish, otherwise it's likely that the male fish will "harass" the female fish, which will make her stress out and eventually die.

There are many ways to set up a breeding aquarium for the pair, and not enough room to supply details on them all. There are two popular ways to breed the Siamese Fighting-fish- in an aquarium specially set for the pair, which should be at a volume of at least 20 liters (5.2 gallons), and the Thai-way, which uses large Plant-pots. In any of these ways, the fish must be conditioned well before introducing the pair. The male guppy will chase thw female guppy, corner her and "show of" which looks like he is shivering before they mate. Keep an eye on the female for a dark ovary spot... you may end up with fries!

The male and female will both eat the babies if they get the chance, but the female is the worst for it. Many people use breeder nets - put the mother when she's very pregnant in a separate aquarium inside a net that she can't fit through but that newborn fry can. When she gives birth, they swim out of the net and she can't eat them.

FYI guppies don't get pregnant, they don't have a placenta. They actually incubate the eggs internally. Look up the term Oviparous.

My solution, 40 years of experience, Grow a thick mat of Elodea. Elodea provides hiding places for the young fry as well as food. I keep several aquariums with out filters or air stones. Mollies come in Black, silver, gold and any combination of the three. Guppies, (which are nothing to do with mollies) can come in all the colours of the rainbow and a few more besides.

Gold Barb (Puntius semifasciolatus) are a fairly small, peacefull fish (about 3" max) with a fairly small mouth. Adult Guppies and Mollies would be far too big for the Barb to eat. They will of course eat youngsters (fry) though, as will just about every other species of fish.

Since Goldfish do not appear in the wild naturally and are a result of selective breeding, there is currently a good supply of Goldfish. Goldfish breeding is an industry itself that regularly produces rare and expensive fish.

If Goldfish breeding were to stop, however, Goldfish would maybe become endangered. They would not die out completely but they would not be goldfish as we know them. After a few generations in the wild, goldfish revert back to their dark greenish brown scale color and begin to resemble the less delicate carp that are more fitted to survive. Some less durable types of goldfish would die out completely.

Absolutely you have to give the fry a place to escape their hungry parents. The Male and Female eat just about all of the fry in a few days. Occassionally one will survive and become an adult. It is recommended to have a divider with holes small enough for the fry to cross over and escape.

Dropsy - Drastically swollen body with raised scales. This is a very hard disease to cure.

Ich - small white spots on fins and body, looks like fine salt.

Velvet - A hazy white appearance on the body. Ich and velvet are sometimes hard to tell apart.

Shimmy - The fish looks like it is swimming fast but stays in one place.

Intestinal worms - Overall change in color, distended stomach, fish appears to be wasting away.
