There will be a dark spot in front of the fishes anus (cloaca) in a pregnant (gravid) female livebearer. This spot is called the "Gravid Spot".

It's not completely empty and you don't just leave it running. What you need to do is put it through the nitrogen cycle, which has no set time and can take anything from 2-6 weeks. It's this process that, afterwards, will mean there's lots of good nitrifying bacteria in the tank to keep the water quality healthy. Skip it and add fish straight away and you end up with a tank of dead fish!

There are tons of good websites on how to fishless cycle a tank. It involves a lot more than filling it with water and plugging it in, you need to add an ammonia producing source and test the water every day for ammonia/nitrites and nitrates.

you can't force them to breed but you can put 2-3 females with 1 male in a separate tank and eventually you will get fry(babies). In my tank i have mollie fry and previously had platy fry whish has now grown up and are adults

The upright tail tells me right away - wren! Now, what species of wren...that's a bit more complicated.

I'd say it may be a Carolina Wren, but the details are too sketchy to go by. It depends on a lot of things - where you saw it, what kind of habitat it was in, more specific field marks. Try looking in a field guide under "wren".

My predidtion is that they will get along fine acording to my research. They are both herbivores.

i have successfully breed 5 strands of guppies in a 20 gallon tank with a power filter and some java moss and any other type of plant you want and of course add water If you want the fry (newborns)to have a better chance of survival, get a breeder container and place the preg. female in it before she releases her babies. Feed them powdered flake food, or fry food.

If the tetras are large enough to catch and eat them they certainly will.
