Hamster Breeds

To mate your dwarf hamsters, you have to have one female and one male hamster.

Make sure they have separate cages, and when your female hamster is "in the heat",

(hamster period, this means she's ready to mate) put them together in one cage for a few minutes. Observe. If they start fighting or biting each other, separate them immediately! Try again a few days later. If they like each other, they will mate and do their job. Leave them in there until they're done, or about half an hour later. Hope this helped!

P.S Female hamsters are in the heat every 4 days, and to tell if she is in the heat, just tickle her bottom and she will become stiff and in an awkward position, she will also smell very odd.

Hamsters are rodents, and it is in their nature to wear down their constantly growing teeth by biting things. Almost anything solid is fair game to them, be it their toys, special gnawing chews, or the cage bars.

If they are 2 males they have probably reached adolescence and should be separated, our rabbits did this and one did get hurt eventually.

If they are 2 females they are probably all right. Females are less aggressive than males.

First: there is no such thing as a FANCY BEAR hamster, FANCY is added to the hamsters name by breeders, but they are no more FANCY than any other SYRIAN hamster!

SYRIAN is their real name (teddy fancy honey and there's a lot of other names)

As for size? Females (after pregnancy can get to the size of baked potatoes) and prior? Little larger than a mango

Some get larger than others and it really depends on how active they are (some are more active some never use a wheel by choice) and diet (what u feed it and how much it eats)

The best way to know if your hamster is in pain is to watch it. If it is not walking around normally or eating it is probably in some sort of pain.

Yes, they have teats. They are mammals and feed their young milk for the first 6 weeks after birth. The teats will grow and expand to hold the milk.

For ten months, the hamsters would be around 5 or 6 years old and 1 whole year is about FIFTY years!!

1 actual year is 25 hamster years which means about 14.6 days is one hamster year :D

I posted a thread last week about my new dwarf hamster and how she's been scratching a lot. I haven't taken her to the vet yet because she seemed to be getting better. Now I'm seeing her doing it again so I went to Petsmart (where I bought her from last week) to see if they knew anything about it or if they would pay for a visit to the vet that they have there (yeah right) Well they gave me a spray for no charge but I'm very wary of using it. For one thing, its not just for hamsters. Its for rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, mice, ect. Rabbits are a lot larger than dwarf hamsters! It also says that its flea and tick spray, not mite spray.

The manager told me to spray it on her and avoid her eyes and nose. Hmm, ok what happens when she washes herself? It says "warning harmful if swallowed" right on the bottle.

A lot of the dwarf hamsters at Petsmart were scratching. I brought that up to the manager but she just got defensive.

I know that there are some people on here that work at vet clinics, so I was wondering if you have any advice about this. Here are the active ingredients:

Oh, and its called Ultra Care Flea and Tick Spray for Small Animals

the dwarf hamster is normally fully grown at the age of 3 months!!!I know that is a very short period of time,but i have asked a clerk at pet supplies plus & that's what he said so im guessing its a legit answer & plus i have a hamster book that came with my hamsters & it also says that!!!:)so I'm guessing that its is true:)

You can touch them when they are firstborn but their mom must be at a food break. (Not recommended for those with no experience) However, you may hold them when they are two weeks old.

Teddy bear hamsters live 3-5 years. Dwarf hamsters and Roborovski hamsters typically live 1-2 years with a maximum of 3 years.

Different dwarf hamsters have different lifespans: * Chinese dwarf hamster has a lifespan of 2 to 3 years * a Russian dwarf has a lifespan of 1.5 to 2 years, but if well looked after, can live longer - even 4 or 5 years * roboroski dwarf has a lifespan of 3 to 3.5 years

Most average dwarf hamsters live to about 2-3 years.

Dwarf hamsters can get along with each other but you have to be careful. Here are some things that you should know:

*Syrians can't be paired together

*Dwarfs can be paired BUT they NEED to be the same sex (unless you want babies) and they really SHOULD be the same breed.

Dwarf rabbits have about the same lifespan as other pet rabbits, although they might live a little bit longer. They tend to live between 7 and 15 years long; 13-15 years is the maximum age and that's if they are healthy and taken well care of.

Robo hamsters live for about 1 year, though if you care for them carefully, they can live for at least a year and a half.

The hamster breed that is best with children is probably a golden bear hamster. Sometimes called the "Teddy Bear Hamster." You should Google Search Images of the Golden Bear Hamster.

If you are extremely worried, I'd advise taking him to the vet to hear more details. However, if your hamster has sprained a leg, there is not much the vet can do. A cast can't be put around your hamster's leg as your hamster will just bite it off. The most advisable thing (this is what I did when my poor hamster sprained her ankle) is to take out any exercising equipment. Let your hamster rest his/her leg as long as possible, and maybe even spoil your hamster a bit by giving him/her extra treats to make up for stress that may develop as a result of he/she being unable to exercise and run around. The key is to wait it out, and give your hamster plenty of rest. Your hamster will recover in no time. ;)

Actually, hey can be very smart. I taught my hamster to run through a whole agility set that I made out of popsicle sticks. I also will sometimes put my hamster in a harness leash and let it walk around outside. You can teach a hamster to walk on its hind legs by holding a piece of food in the air and having them follow it. Most hammies will do almost anything for food. Try searching different tricks to teach your hamster.

Hamsters squeak as a sign of distress or a cry for help, if your hamster does squeak go to it immediately and see if anything is wrong, if you can see no injuries obviously, but it still squeaks when you pick him/her up again consult a vet to have an x-ray done or something. If nothing is wrong he/she was probably scared from something check it's cage for spiders or other small/large insects. If it doesn't squeak again your hamster was probably communicating with another hamster if you have one, or saying something even to you.

Hamsters can get pregnant again right after they give birth to babies...BUT it is best to wait atleast 6 weeks after they give birth so the mom can be strong enough to be pregnant again and it wont place her in danger. Plus that 6 wks is time to get the babies weened from mom... it would place too much stress if shes still nursing babies and has more babies before last liter is weened from her.
